safari 3 has been my browser of choice since the beta and it's even better now. Still keep camino around as a backup, and (ugh) firefox for those really annoying webpages that don't work right with anything but ff or ie.

I used to have the same, but no longer have FF...Camino is fantastic, and has really improved since I started using it...

FF is way too bulky for my liking, its a pity many switchers jump right on it...

I'm using Safari 3 since Apple released the Beta. I wonder if Apple is going to make it a full release for the non Leopard users. Never touched FireFox or any other browser since then.

My German shortcuts still don't work in Safari 3.

I've only tried the beta version of Safari 3, so I don't know anything big about the final version. The reason I''m not using it now (still using Tiger, waiting for my UTD Leopard to arrive), is that I couldn't use my Internet Bank, which I do pretty much every day - I hope this is fixed in the final version though.

Like many others here, I use Safari 3 pretty much exclusively, and have since the beta. Before that I was a solid FF user, but I figured I would see if the Jobsian RDF was active and strong in regards to 'Safari is the most faster-est browser that ever will be or has been'. It turns out that it is quite fast (especially compared to FF then and now) and it works with pretty much every single site that i go to, and it passes teh Acid2 test.

I like how much better Safari fits with the OS as compared to FF, and how well integrated it is. To me, FF always sort of felt like the mozilla devs sort of took FF from Windows, spat on it, rubbed it in the dirt, and ignored it for a while and then finally said "here you go mac users.... be happy we ported it at all". And people just immediately jump to it because that is what they are used to. Frankly I think that FF is slipping in terms of delivering a great browser (not saying that anything out is infinitely better or anything). I mean, a few years ago, you would have been an idiot to not run FF... but now... i don't know, I just don't think that is the case.

FF 3 (there is now a beta) will have aqua widgets to make it more OSX-like, and Mozilla do make Camino as their like-FF-but-Mac-specific browser...

Nothing has a touch on Safari though, except Shiira. I wish that they could have some features from eachother. I would use Shiira if it had Inquisitor, Safari 3's tabs and find functions...

I forgot about Shiira. Now that had some features that were really nice. Integrated well with teh OS, had the Tab Expose feature (which i wish i had in Safari) as well as a few other things that i liked.

If you're willing to pay $5, try this :)

I switched to it for the time being.... I miss firefox...

Main things I don't like.

1. I used it in Tiger just to play a game on because I could use a download image pack so the game ran faster, now that doesn't work :( Firefox doesn't work with it either but I like safari because it did let me.

2. When I quit FireFox and reopen it (like if I have to reboot) all my last tabs come back up. I love that! In Safari there is no such option :'( <- MAIN dislike

The Web Inspector in Safari 3 is in many ways better than FireBug, so it's unlikely that I'll use FireFox for web development anymore.

Safari 3 is excellent now in this area.

Does "Reopen All Windows From Last Session" not work? I haven't tried it, but it's there.

1: Ok... no idea
2: Cannot remember off the top of my head what the plugin was, but there is a plugin that will do it automatically. However, even without the plugin, you can still reopen Safari and then in the History Menu -> Reopen All Windows from last session. That will reopen all the tabs.

Ok, so I just got 2 new plugins (does anyone know of a place, similar to the Firefox extensions page, that just lists all the plugins for Safari?) for Safari that replicate those things that I was actually wanting from FF.

1: Inquisitor Which is like Spotlight for the search bar in Safari. It will autocomplete, get webpages or search results as you type and looks sweet.

2: Twicetab. Lets you double click the tab bar to get a new tab, and then Middle click/ command click to close tabs from teh tab bar.

Now All i need is for TabExpose & PithHelmet to work, and I will never, ever look enviously at FF again.

oh wow, maybe i clicked on the poll too hastily...... I upgraded to Leopard the other week but failed to try Safari and my online banking again (Safari beta didnt work with it) hence the reason why i switched to FF full time for about a month. Anyway now Safari supports internet banking, i will return and use it full time again :) \o/

The worst Safari ever was Panther's. I had went to Firefox with it, but even with Tiger I came back to Safari, despite it needing improvement still.

I stayed with Firefox due to Safari under Panther.

I would love to move to Safari 3, but Firefox supports the Yahoo Toolbar for my online bookmarks, which I've been using for years under both Mac and Windows.

Question: does Safari 3 overwrite Safari 2 under Tiger? Is there an uninstall program if you want to go back to Safari 2?

It overwrites but the beta disk image contains an uninstaller (and reinstalls 2 for you).

That's a great feature of Firefox. If Safari had that (or a plug in that supports that) plus the Yahoo Toolbar, I could see going back to it full time.

For now, Safari gets used for some sites that are problems under Firefox (sprint.com being one of them I visit often)

I would switch to Safari because of its faster performance in Leopard, but I'm much too attached to my extensions to do so. Plus, I like Firefox's "Restore Previous Session" option too.

History --> Reopen All Windows From Last Session

And I've yet to find a FireFox extension worth using a crappy browser for.

Installed Safari 3. It seems snapier and most sites work pretty well under it.

Wow. I see this is new for Safari 3. Is there a way to make this default every time you open Safari?

Another "Firefox does this, can Safari do it, too?" feature: I can tell Firefox to open all new windows as Tabs. In order to do this in Safari, I have to hold down Shift-Cmd and click the link (or right click the link and choose open in new tab). Any way to change the single click to open a new tab instead of a new window?

So far, no. But you can always send feedback to Apple. I personally would hate it, but then again I wouldn't have to enable it.

The reason I don't use safari: I have to type .com in the navagation bar for it to go to the website i want. in firefox, I can just type words and it does a google search to find the first hit. I love that. however, safari 3 is now somewhat useable for me now, unlike safari 2. But i am still happy with firefox and probably won't switch. it is fast, opens quickly (2 bounces at the most) on my MBP, and has all my extensions.
