Installed this the other day. Messed with my MSN, everytime I pressed return I would have to reclick the cursor inside the box to type. Highly irritating. Uninstalled Saf 4 and it worked again.

Like the coverflow favourites, its just a shame Im embarrassed of most of mine...

I can't believe any uses the horrendous MSN for Mac. Do yourself a favour and download Adium. You'll never look back.

Apple can tote around all the benchmarks it wants, but real-life is real-life, and in real usage, my Firefox 3 is simply faster than Safari 4 running on my 2006 MBP, even with more tabs open. Plus, it broke my GrowlMail, which I happen to be a huge fan of. Coverflow bookmarks is nice, especially with sites that have multiple pages with non-descriptive titles, but...I think I'll stick with Firefox, at least until Chrome comes out for OS X.

Safari 4 it's nice and really liked it, BUT hotmail didn't work even when doing all the tricks and changes in Safari Preferences. When it comes out as the main version I will switch for sure, right now I will stick with 3.2.1

Love Safari! Tabs on top are better- saves desktop space (especially it is useful on laptop), easier to navigate. Safari 4 is faster, smoother. I have not noticed any bugs so far. Love coverflow for history, bookmarks. I have used it only a few days, but it looks better than anything else.

I use hotmail only intermittently, so my current workaround is to go 'home' when I sign into Microsoft Live - and on the homepage, there are links to my most recent 3 emails.

Terminal command

I'm sorry about this newbie question, but I'm not used with terminal commands..

To make back progress bar come back, I juste open terminal.app and type this ??

$ defaults write com.apple.Safari DebugSafari4LoadProgressStyle -bool NO

is that it??

Thanks and sorry :)

Open Terminal.app and type (or paste):

defaults write com.apple.Safari DebugSafari4LoadProgressStyle -bool NO

and press enter. The $ is there just to signify that it's a terminal command.

I would like help with this to as i get this error when doing it

Unknown-00-14-51-85-0a-ee:~ anthonysantangelo$

An ageing Terminal.app virgin writes: I haven't fooled around with the innards of a Mac programme since System 7 and the dear old days of ResEdit. But the instructions for getting the blue bar back worked a treat! Thanks a million folks!

Looks nice and feels fast but until adblock or an equivalent works then firefox it is.

that looks like a standard terminal prompt and not an error?! The error would have to come after the dollar sign. It's normal to not get any confirmation after the execution of the command, therefore you're just returned to the prompt, but it still should have worked..

I don't understand some people's obsession with Firefox. The only thing I liked about it over the week I used it was that it wasn't that big of a memory hog. Other than that, it's a crawler.

How to slow down zoom with pinch on the trackpad

My font goes from 9-90 in half a second now. It used to work perfectly. Anyone else have this problem?

Sorry if this has been covered.

Few people have suggested Adium. Will check it out.

Mac MSN really does suck but its what Im used to...

Changes for Windows

i didnt read all pages in this thread, but how do we change the safari on windows, is there some terminal for windows im not being told about??

Why don't they let me pick my to sites? The top site is nice but I would like it to include my own selections of sites I want to see there. Any other system always requires annoying workarounds.

Instructions for doing this have been posted a few times already in this thread.

The only thing that kept m using firefox was the ability to have custom searches such as youtube, or my own website and firebug.

Custom searches can be added to safari with a plugin and safari 4s dev menu just blows firebug away. Although as of yet there is no way to add css elements to anything that did not already have it defined, just edit the extra features more than make up for this. Hopefully the final release will take this into consideration though.

The new version of Glims apparently works.

What do you mean, apparently? Do you have first hand knowledge?

And are you referring to build 13 or 14?

This is what I posted in another thread, so I'm aware of Glims current shortcomings:

Glims build 13 is a partial solution. You can set up a list of custom search engines and Safari will use the one at the top of your custom list. There's no way to select another one from the drop-down, as you can with Safari 3, at the moment. Hopefully, the developers are on the case, though.

I was asking kurosov which plug-in he was refering to.

*edit* I would expect build 14 very soon...

If you click 'Edit' on the lower left, then open a second Safari window, you can drag the tiny icon (to the left of the address bar) of a desired web address onto the 'Top Sites' page, and lock it in by clicking on the posting pin icon, to include your own selections. Top Sites introduces a visually brilliant way to navigate to your most visited sites.
