Works great for me on both a 4 year old MacBook and 2007 Mac Pro. I welcome the Develop toolbar and its features as a web developer.

For the people having issues with it, I'd check your 3rd party plug-ins and make sure that they've been updated to support Safari 5. That's the biggest reason for any application crash.

Safari won't open after updates

I'm glad to see I'm not alone with this problem. Safari was fine until I installed a routine software upgrade last week then went home for the day. The next morning, I couldn't get any windows to open in Safari and an error report every time I quit the program. I'll go back and try an older version until Apple does something about this.

Do what everyone else has been doing:

Move you're internet plug-ins to another location, then load up Safari.

I have not had any problems with the browser crashing. However, it is much slower, sometimes quits loading completely and must refresh. Also, is anyone else had an issue with streaming videos playing (i.e. youtube) and email attachments not being available. If so, any ideas on how to fix this problem?

Thanks.

Safari 5 crashes when I try to run an EtherPad, doesn't seem to display Flash properly (or at all), and didn't work for booking train tickets. Other than the fact that it doesn't work properly, it's fantastic. Can we have 5.0.1 now plz?

Some of you are having the same problems I had. I could load no more than 2 pages without having to restart my router. Things loaded very slowly and then just stopped. I tried uninstalling programs and nothing changed.

What worked and worked completely is going to system preferences>Network>Advanced>DNS>+ and adding in these two numbers under DNS Servers:

208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220

Make sure you click apply afterwards

You may have to restart your computer or router, but maybe not. These numbers should work for everybody.

Your my hero... This worked like a charm !!!! My safari is back baby !!!

BTW this whole safari 5 thing pissed me off so bad... and completely wiped my mac clean.. (thinking my macbook pro might have been the problem, since it was so customized) but after a clean install.. its was still the same **** !! (no additional plugins installed no extensions.. right of the bat !! until "Sandon" came along.. did exactly what he said.. works like a CHARM!!! good luck guys !

Not exactly FUBAR but close!

Most of my problems with Safari 5 have to do with Gmail, although v5 seems to crash pretty often. Have taken to clearing tabs more frequently.

In Gmail, v5 won't allow a user to click on addresses in the contacts database; one must enter them manually.

Files will not attach to email, either, a real pain.

One doesn't necessarily consider the pain of early adoption, esp with Software Update!

Reset Safari numerous times and disable plugins but no help.

Only solution is to wait for an update...

Safari not visible

I downloaded Safari 5 onto my Mac Book Pro Snow Leopard. Safari is active after I click on it's icon on the dock (the top navigation is visible) but the browser window doesn't open. As if the whole thing is stuck on "hide". When I try to close it it won't close. I have to forse quit... Any ideas?

Thank you so much for this information. Followed the instructions and added the two numbers and Safari is running like the old version.....

Thanks again.....

thanks a bunch for the info

happy mac user again

I've been using those OpenDNS servers for years and I am still having problems with page loads and freezing up. I have had to force quit Safari 5 more than any other previous version of Safari.

I am really disappointed in Apple. This is the first time I have really had a problem with any of their software updates. In fact, I can't remember EVER having one. Apparently my luck has run out - LOL!

I did change the user agent. Let's see if that does anything.

For me...

-Crashes at least 4 times a day.
-Hogs almost all my memory
-If anything, feels like it loads pages slower than Safari 4

Some more problems:
-Every single page never completely loads. It gets 99% done and keeps loading, slowing down my computer. The computer seems hotter as well.

-In Safari 4, I always hit the Delete key to go back to the previous page. Now the Delete key doesn't stand for just that any more; it also stands for the previous scroll move. So if I scroll to the bottom of a page in say 5 or 6 scrolls, I have to press the Delete key 7 TIMES to get back to the previous page! Why?

-Even with nearly all the Plug-Ins out of the Plug-Ins Folder, Safari still manages to crash at least 2 to 3 times per day. Better then the previous 6 to 10, but still very unstable.

-Every time Safari crashes, if I load up Safari immediately, it doesn't load up anything. I have to Force Quit and then load up Safari again, and then it works.

I have these exact problems too!

I'm moving to Firefox. Safari always worked great but this new version 5 is a bug-ridden POS. Every time I use Yahoo! the wheel of death appears and I have to force quit. Good job apple.

Hangs like a criminal!!

HI I updated my Safari from 4 to 5 and while 4 worked beautifully 5 is a demon from hell. It hangs constantly: there is no cure and it will infect an entire system. I run two Macbooks 10.6.4 and they have always had perfectly running mac software but this safari update has been so bad and incurable that I have had to use Firefox exclusively since because there is no fix in sight for the horrible 'hang' that happens every single time I try to open a page. I also tried to go back and restored to safari 4 but guess what? it didn't work anymore either!

Better luck to the others out there who use Safari - my advice if you don't have Safari 5 don't update! if you do and it's not working, install Firefox until Apple decides to get into gear and fix the problems they've caused!

I find it comical that one little Apple error turns into a bad day in Bosnia. When was the last time Apple released something this unstable? I have no idea and can't remember anything every coming close to this. Reading through some of these comments, it seems like this one glitch may cause people to switch back to PC.

The truth is that no one is perfect. This was bound to happen at sometime or another and it just happened to occur now. So far it seems to be kicking everyone in the arse, including Apple.

Hang in there people, Apple will fix this... eventually.

I downloaded OS 10.6.4 and Safari on Sat. and so far I have had no problems with either. All apps are running, pages download fast, You Tube videos play with no problems.
I have read about all the problems some people have and how a lot are like me with no problems. Do I have an answer to why this is, no but I am sure Apple will figure it out soon.
And I don't think anyone is going to run back to a PC because of this if they remember why they came over from the dark side in the first place.

Any of you guys having the problems that I am having with safari 5? My problems with safari 5 is that it doesn't remember my log in info. An example is with youtube, even if I check the box to "stay signed in" after a few hours I find out that I have to sign back in. And I get that problem with any site that I want to remember my log in info, like gmail etc.

Safari 5 Higher Temps

Anyone else experiencing wayy higher temps?

I've been hovering around 82*C all morning

Yes, I have been experiencing much hight temps. It has been causing my Powerbook G4 to go to sleep.....to the point that I had to reinstall whole system. If you have an Intel based Mac, there is a third party software (can't remember name), that will let you change the default settings as to which temperature will kick on the internal fan(s).

I have reverted back to Safari 4 until this issue is resolved.
