It's possible but it seems unlikely. Something like that (basically a new "feature") would not normally be included in an emergency .01 security update. Maybe you're just getting used to the Mac-style font smoothing? It's definitely an adjustment. It bothered me for quite a while, but I'm used to it now and it no longer appears overly blurry to me.

haha, funny how the human eye can get used to blurry images :)
Switch back to Firefox , your eye will immediately see the improvement...

Must be lots of losers with short positions on Apple trolling the net right now hoping for one last shot at driving the stock down enough to cash in. Pretty impressive performance after WWDC. They managed to freak out enough big money and mutual managers to dump the stock and drive it down almost $9.00 in two days. Time has run out boys!. You bet against the wrong horse.

They'll try again after the phone reviews start coming out. We'll hear all the negative stuff about the touch keyboard and how the phone browser doesn't support flash and on and on and on. Just remember what Jobs has been saying... "it's the best IPOD we've ever built.

Meanwhile Apple forges new trails for people that like working and playing WITH their computers, not working ON them.

huh, what does this have to do with the thread topic of Safari?

% of Boot Camp users>

I wonder how many were OS X users who were in boot camp.

I prefer Firefox to Safari--I like the way it handles RSS feeds and its overall look. I admit I could try to spend more time on Safari, but got other things to do.

One Million Downloads..... why am I tempted to think of Dr. Evil

Horrible application, even for a beta

The Windows XP version of Safari crashes nearly constantly for me -- adding a bookmark - crash; filling out a form - crash; reporting a bug - crash. It crashed 6 times in the first 10 minutes I used it. This doesn't surprise me since Safari is Apple's worst program on the Mac too. Apple is taking a giant step backwards exposing Windows users (potential Mac switchers) to such a buggy program as an example of the Mac experience!

IN OTHER NEWS

999,950 people uninstalled Safari for Windows within 20 minutes of installing it because it was crap.

I wonder how many were OS X users who where in boot camp.
My thoughts exactly. How many of those 1 million downloads are actually from Mac users that want to try out Safari on Windows? Either on Boot Camp, Parallels/VMWare, or their Windows Machines. I guess quite a lot.

Sorry I forgot to mention all the MS Safari bashing.....(like it isn't obvious enough).

It's beta software. It was released as such and you guys are burning it in. Of course it bug-ridden. Apple will let you know when it's a final release. All of this white noise about a beta release is excessive and ill-intended. Send your comments to Apple where something can be done about it.

Meanwhile, all you shorts can have a little fun while it lasts, because it won't last long.

It works "fine" on my laptop in XP. Pageloads are ridiculously faster than Firefox or IE. I dislike the absence of Cleartype or SmoothScrolling. This program is a beta (just like they tell you), but it has the framework to be a good PC app.

Edit: After trying to upload some pics on Facebook, Safari Java is still extremely slow. I guess I like my Firefox still.

Java != Javascript

You mean the later I believe.

Dude if you wanna be troll, great, knock yourself out. But at least stay on topic.

Yes it has bugs, but I think your experience is not representative of the general base. I will deal with its shortcomings because I like it so much more than FF or IE.

Thank you Apple!

In response to an earlier comment...

I presume it does work with Flash, I've not noticed any websites that particularly havent worked or displayed correctly yet.

The only issue I've had so far is with Lloyds TSB internet banking! I couldnt sign on at all, but in Firefox and IE it all worked fine.

flash in Safari 3.0 is now as fast as it is on IE... however, lots of flash sites (including my own) use an actionscript to enable back/forward browser button functionality, etc., called SWFAddress... and Safari 3.0 Beta does not play nicely with SWFAddress at all... it's very discouraging... and eventhough the developer of SWFAddress is aware that Safari 3.0 Beta doesn't work with SWFAddress and will be attempting a recode, it's still disheartening to see something that once worked so well in Safari become no longer supported...

Well, we got to download Safari 3 free... right? giving them Safari is like Jobs said "giving a giant sized glass of cool beer to someone in hell" or something like that...

Leo

Yes, they did give OS 10.4.9 users access to the 3.0 Beta. But, notice it is only for 10.4.9 users. No support for 10.3.x.

And, that this is only the Beta. I'm betting that the final release will require 10.5 "Leopard".

Meanwhile, Windows users will not have to buy a Mac product at all to get access to the latest Safari.

So, as it is now, you must either have the latest version of OS X or no Mac at all if you want the latest Beta version. I expect that will likely continue based on Apple's past.

I would like to see them keep support for at least one or two versions back in OS X when they release a new version of Safari (or the final version of 3.0).

Either way, it does seem odd that the first free ride was given to Windows users. All Mac users have had to purchase the latest available OS X to get the current Safari releases (so far that's still the case).

So, if you want the latest Safari you either use Windows and get it for free, or you must update to the latest version of OS X and get it included. Kind of weird.

I would expect that the only reason we are getting access to the 3.0 Beta at this point is because they knew we'd throw a huge protest if they released something for Windows that wasn't offered to us at all.

EDIT: I love my Mac, but I don't really understand how a Mac user who's a little bit of honesty left can call Windows more proprietary than Mac OS X.. the latter is even bound to the hardware.
Thanks for calling a lot of people dishonest. Let's see, a good portion of Mac OSX is open source, underpinnings of Safari is open-source, if you install developer tools that come with your OSX DVD you can even rebuild QuickTime, TextEdit and many other stuff to your heart's content etc etc. Mac also makes writing and sharing little scripts very easy with Applescript and Automator. Here, you got your answer...

So, if you want the latest Safari you either use Windows and get it for free, or you must update to the latest version of OS X and get it included. Kind of weird.
Is full featured IE7 available for Windows 2000 or XP SP1?

I have to disagree.

I'm willing to bet that Safari 3 will be available for both Tiger & Leopard (as well as Windows XP and Windows Vista).
