Why does the Angry Birds, Fruit Ninja, PvZ look so... pixelated?
The developers haven't updated the apps with higher resolution icons.

Does this apply for new versions of that software, even on older iPads? Or are they distributing different versions depending on which iPad you have? Former would be a bummer, as I tend to purchase a 2Gen iPad and get factually less storage for no reason. The sizes of these Retina-enabled apps appear to be about 2.5-3x the size of their original counterparts.

Yes, it will also be the same for the older iPads.Does this apply for new versions of that software, even on older iPads? Or are they distributing different versions depending on which iPad you have? Still cannot see the point in using an iPad to take pictures....
Geez, Apple's apps have sure jumped in file size. VERY happy with my last-minute decision to bump up from 32 GB to 64 GB.
The shots look incredible, though it's still hard to mentally "scale them down" to the iPad screen size at that resolution. I'll just have to wait until it arrives on Friday to see for myself. I certainly remember the amazing feeling of gazing at my iPhone 4 screen for the first time. Apple sure knows how to work magic with displays.
I think Apple set a bad example by being stupid enough to include new features in the updates so that people think now that the size increase was due to the retina display. Apple should have held back the new features for half a year to make people happy.its a pretty bad example for apple to set. you'd think they work out a way to get retina assets without such bloat (I realise in some apps they're adding other things too)
I assume that pure retina updates in apps will cause an increase of somewhere between 0 and 20%.2-3x larger apps
For me, the upgrade to 1GB memory is at least as important as the retina display - in the long run probably even more important.
I don't actually see why apps should automatically get that much bigger. The only thing that will get bigger are any bitmap graphics embedded in the app, such as icons. And in most apps, embedded bitmap graphics make up only a fairly small part of the total size.
As I pointed out before, the size of iMovie grew due to additional media. And also the updates to the other apps were not just retina adaptations, but they also added some features.
And 2012 iPad is not a self-made up name?
Why not call it what Apple calls it? iPad (3rd Generation).
Seems a lot of people would ave benefited from a higher capacity 128Gb version. Seems Apple may have overlooked this option. I would have thought the 3rd Gen iPad would have started at 32Gb instead of 16Gb as surely the idea of Apple buying out that Israeli Flash storage company would have enabled them to pass on the savings to the consumer. Seems that having 100 billion in the bank just aint enough for Tim Cook and Co.
Im glad I held off. ill be getting the 64Gb in time. Although I reckon Apple will have realised their mistake in not offering 128Gb once a lot of 16Gb units are returned.
I can't see that in general.App sizes are about 3x in size,
I doubt that.I hope this doesn't translate into 3x RAM usage.
You will see that during the weekend.I would love to see hard data comparing RAM usage in retina apps and non-retina apps.
I'm almost sure that this will not be the case. If anything then in retina optimized 3D-games but not while surfing the web or doing office stuff. If RAM usage is also about 3x, the iPad 2 will have on average more free ram than the new iPad.. hope that's not the case![]()
wow, those photos look really crappy!

When I see a game on the iPad that has the huge amount of textures needed for creating a game like Battlefield 3, then I will agree. But I hope you are not comparing Angry Birds with Battlefield 3. A game like Angry Birds doesn't contain such a terribly huge amount of textures and bitmaps.Really? You think apps size like games only fairly affected by Retina Display? So next HD Angry Birds will only 5MB bigger than what they have today? As I said features are also added, but bitmaps also contributes a lot to apps file size. And most selling apps on AppStore are games. How do you think Battlefield 3 weigh 15GB on PC? Most of them are filled by scripts? Really?
No idea where you got that impression. And about the naming. Sure 2012 iPad also a self-made up name. You think I'm an ignorant fool, right?
Tell that to all the people who somehow manage to successfully sell devices named "iPod Nano 6th generation" on eBay without anyone getting confused. And now with iPad you only had 3 gens so far, how about 2 3 years from now? What would people call it? iPad 4S, iPad 5? Or iPad 5XS? Apple obviously doesn't interested in numbering anymore, simply called it "the new iPad" just like "the new Macbook Air". Thus, naming it by release year is simple and fool proof, your method of naming would render confusion and mistakes. Think about that!
PS: Let's get used to call the new iPad as 2012 iPad instead of self-made up names like iPad 3 or iPad 2S![]()
