When Tim Cook said that about fiscal 2016, I think it was indicative of former iPhone users switching BACK from Android, after Apple finally gave them a choice of larger displays.

So yes, iOS was the appeal, but I think mostly to those who were already used to it and missed it.

True, it still shows that Apple can still has appeal, if people switched back because they finally made larger screened phones. I think if the iPhone 8 is a big upgrade it will cause people to upgrade their contracts, or those who like myself buy our phones outright. Obviously we will have to wait and see in September.

Yep. I'm hoping that Apple will do something really cool.

As someone else here pointed out not long ago, sometimes other companies just need a kick in the behind, to get neat stuff out of R&D and into the market. They all tend to play it safe as much as they can.

I think with it being the 10 anniversary, Apple will want to do something I can't see them passing up the opportunity. We are already hearing rumours of a new iPhone 8 model having wireless charging, no home button, bezel free device and the glass curves at the sides a little. Internally it's been code named Ferrari apparently, so we will see, but with them keeping the same design with the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, I think they have been working on something good and that's why we didn't see a design change with the 7.

But, by this logic, aren't OLED displays just a subcategory of LED displays? Seriously, I'm no expert.
Quoting Wikipedia: "OLED displays can use either passive-matrix (PMOLED) or active-matrix (AMOLED) addressing schemes."

In the end what matters is how these words are commonly used and understood. The term LED display was largely introduced for purposes with fairly large LEDs where the human eye could easily make out the individual element, like seven-segment displays where seven bars are used to display alphanumeric characters or the billboard-sized displays to show scores at sporting events.

For general image displays (i.e., where there is the illusion of a continuous image), it needed OLED technology for LEDs to be used in standard 'computer' displays (beyond purposes like replacing fluorescent backlighting). AMOLED differs from the OLEDs that came before it (aka PMOLED) in the addressing method, but not in how brightness and colour are physically generated (which is quite different than in LCDs). This is why it is common to include AMOLED technology when one is talking about OLEDs. But there is very little overlap between devices labelled LED displays and devices labelled OLED displays.

And even if experts in the field possibly might not call AMOLED displays OLED displays, a lot of less technical people will do so. The sole point of my post was to point out that a discrepancy between OLED used in some rumours and AMOLED in others is with 99% certainty not a discrepancy but two different people using different terms for the same underlying hardware.

The 3.5 was great but it's way too small today with apps using the larger screen. Even the 4.7 is too small sometimes l.

If they keep the SE size as an option going forward, I can deal with it. I still like the reachability of the 3.5 phones better though.

Because I don't have both hands free at all times.
You misunderstood me. Someone here complained that you already need two hands to use the iphone Plus. So my point is, unless they make it so big that you need a third hand to hold it, a few millimiters here or there won't make a difference.

Yeah my contract ends in may where I will move to sim only and buy my phones. No longer do I want to pay £55 a month for my phone contract. £20 a month and just buy my phones now and due to iPhones resell value being so good you aren't needed to pay loads each year.
