That's respect.

don't know about samsung, but a lot of the google people worked at apple in the 1990's. they are probably going to the funeral and can't get ready for the event over the weekend

These two(Samsung and Google) are just ******rs. I bet in they presentation they script was to attack SJobs as they always do.

Apple attacked the company, not the persons. Thats a big difference. Vic Gundotra attacked the person, that is just plain wrong. f them

I doubt steve himself knew how much people loved him. Even the competitors loved the man. Steve was never afraid to offer advice to friends and enemies alike.

I think Steve knew. The stories and statements from the founders & ceo's of Apple's competitors has shown me that there is a lot of behind the scenes discussion and sharing that goes on. Stuff that isn't out in public. These men and women may be fierce competitors, but they are also friends and colleagues.

Steve was helped by mentorship and he helped others as well. I think it was very important to him that part of his legacy be about how he contributed to the success of the Valley as a whole.

I don't believe these people understood Steve Jobs. He was an avid competitor and I don't think its a show of respect to not launch a product because he passed away. I think Steve would want things to go on, as Apple has done.

My guess is that it has nothing to do with respect, and everything to do with their realization that the media is in a frenzy about Apple right now and they won't get the attention they need for their launch.

As I said in the other thread, this is a great spin put on by their PR departments, I have a strong feeling Google and Samsung don't want their "announcement" to be eclipsed by all the Steve Jobs hoopla that's going on..

It's extremely naive to think that the rescheduling was simply out of respect for Steve. There's more to the story.

Uhm respect??
Simply they don't want their new products to compete with the iphone 4s now!
They just need more time for planning their next moves!!

Exactly - Samsung and Google are trying to make money like everyone else - their shareholders want profits - thinking this has to do with respect for Steve is naive. Besides, what in the world does a product launch have to do with respect for anyone?

Real respect would be carrying on with business and let the best man (phone) win in a fair fight - bottom line is sales.

Agreed

Very, very classy. Perhaps one could look at this as somewhat of a business decision because (a) the announcement would get lost in the raft of stories about Steve and (b) anything belittling the iPhone would be seen in incredibly bad taste. But, Doing the Right Thing is unusual in today's environment, and it's quite heartening to see it done on short notice by companies that are competitors. Kudos to all involved who called it off.

...

there is only one reason for the delay. the galaxy s 2 just came out and they were going to rush this to compete with iphone 5. since there was no iphone 5 they are delaying this till it is fully baked

I wonder if Jobs would have shown the same respect if it was one of his competitors. Probably not.

Well, considering they are announcing a device that pretty much destroys the iPhone 4S on every spec (you can get a preview by looking at the SGS II HD announced in Korea just a few weeks ago), with an updated OS that iOS still has to catch up to, with features Apple can only dream of (Google Wallet/NFC) and they were doing it 2 days before the launch of the iPhone 4S... Yeah I'd say it was a move to steal Apple's thunder.

Too bad it won't buy them any sympathy in here.

Actually no, it does not destroy the 4S in any respect at all. The iPhone 4 is leaps and bounds ahead of it, the 4S...lightyears. The fact is, it's still using Android which is horrid in every way. Difficult, non-intuitive, resource hog. It's just another garbage device that will get lost in the sea of junk android phones.

This was the first thing that came to mind. There was probably a LOT of Apple-bashing scripted into the presentation.

Guaratee their presentation was full of slams to Apple.

They need to go back, rewrite their keynote, create new slides, practice the keynote and get it down.

That takes time. The probably need another week to do all that.

Not to mention i'm sure Steve's funeral or whatever they are having will be news. This stuff lingers for weeks. Takes the thunder away from their phone.

The guess is totally ********.

If apple itself did not delay the media event and launch of iphone 4s (obviously they realized the health of steve better than anyone else), how comes that google's cancellation is a show of respect to Steve?

It sounds like google's announcement will crush apple altogether and they will delay their killer product to show respect.

What a "classy" joke!

A simple fact: Not so many people will care their announcement on the wake of Steve's passing this and next weeks.

Nice, but I don't think etiquette required that. Maybe there was a lot of anti-Apple marketing / rhetoric involved in the original plans?

I agree.

Marketing campaigns such as 'iPhone 4s is DOA - introducing the new Android' would make Android look very bad. Saying anything bad about an iPhone 4s reflects upon Steve Jobs right now. Give it a couple months, and Android marketing can go back to that.

You'd have to be out of your mind to actually believe that.

Are you even modestly aware of how pathetically bad Android software is?

You can't seriously believe what you just said. The iPhone 4 is quite low-end nowadays compared to what's out there, the iPhone 4S barely catches up. The SGS II and SGS II HD are both quite ahead of the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 4S barely catches up to them in specs.

The fact is, you don't have facts, you have an opinion on Android.

I'm buying an iPhone 4S, but I also realise that I'm not buying some kind of super up-to-date phone.

It's not bad at all actually. It's quite functional and good. Same as iOS. I have software and usability issues with my 3GS I hope are solved in iOS 5.

Maybe they arent ready, and the PR dept is just spinning it so it looks great?

Whats a week or two after all?

I have a SG2, and the only reason its going back is it doesnt fit my apple ecosystem well enough. Im a little miffed with apple, but again, we dont need much more from phones right now than the SG2/4S.

That said, I cant really bring myself to reup my contract with att, and trade the 4 for a 4s. I have what I need; 32GB, talk/surf, and decent gaming. They would have sold me with a +4 in screen, but maybe next year.

I do wish theyd do widgets in IOS. They could kill it. Or "thats killer."

You mean re-write their powerpoint.

What a classy response.

PR stunt and nothing more, if they had true respect they would cancel the lawsuits and let the French and Italians enjoy the last gadget released in Steve's lifetime

They are just doing this because the world is still grieving over Steve and any announcement on a new Samsung/Google phone would end up on P47 of the newspapers while Steve is on Page 1
