Is it just me, or is Samsung also ripping Apple off by using the same kind of "johny ive - look out how this looks" type of music and feel type ad ?

When Apple does it... it's actually good, but when Samsung do it, its just creepy.

Agreed. Apple ads are just... special and artistic. I have yet to see a single ad from Samsung/Microsoft/Google in the last few years that sent a chill down my spine.

I have lived in the era of CRT curved monitors. I still remember the joy and amazement when I first switch to a flat screen monitor. Why are we going back to curved screens? It seems crazy to me.

Yea, I miss the CRT touchscreen edge monitors. :p

The green color S6 Edge is the best looking smartphone I've ever seen.

Wireless charging, a big meh. Its a great, cool idea, but lack usefulness.

Wall plug, cable, plug into iPhone

Wall plug, cable, baseplate. Where is the benefit?

If you have the plug, cable and baseplate in one place, fine, Id rather do the same with a dock that has useful features.

Nothing in this list is innovation. Look up the meaning of iteration.

But to be honest very little room to innovate in the phone space. Although the force press technology on iPhone screens (i.e. Apple watch) is the first bit of true innovation in years.

Obviously nothing is an innovation because its samsung right?

Built in wireless charging - Written off as crap but as soon as the iPhone has it there will be hosannas about tim cook being sung in the street

14nm - Since A8 is 20 nm - of course this means nothing as well because its samsung.

This entire thread is full of epic fail.

It's beating out a8x with ease and that's only at 1.5ghz

Try real world. They need power to run Android phones with the varying chips, iOS is custom made for the A series. More efficient, less brute force required. Same with a V8 engine vs a much smaller capacity Euro sport engine.

i can see it now...when apple finally includes wireless charging, it's effin great!

The real question is will this iPhone 6 copy be enough to save samsung's floundering smartphone business?

I personally don't think so but hey, copying the iPhone got them in the door in the first place. Might as well go back to what works in order to try to save their business.

I don't use Android, but the feel from forums is they move to another Android phone, Galaxys became very incremental, not much new. This S6 is a nice phone, still incremental, but they shoot many in the hip with no SD and non removable battery. Is that true, no idea, but on another couple of forms that are tech not Apple/Android, those two 'features" seem to be a turn off. And I see Sandisk now have a 200GB SD card. Again, I don't care, but just reporting the news

I'm just not seeing the reasoning behind the Galaxy Edge... The tech doesn't add anything special to the device and the curves don't make any ergonomic sense.

The Galaxy S6 doesn't feel "special" in any way (TouchWiz still looks god awful) but the hardware itself has some good looks. If touchwiz weren't present I think it would be a fantastic device. The Edge though? It seems like a cheap gimmick, like most of Samsung's attempts at hardware innovation.

Motorola and Google still have Samsung between the legs IMO. I know they'll never make the sales Samsung will, simply because they don't have the same money is marketing, but everything Samsung touches just feels awkward... They lack a certain level of class that other companies just understand so much better. (ie. they still shove their logo onto the front of the device whereas other brands put it on the rear. The device should be iconic enough to speak for itself)

Whilst the name is the same, Samsung Pay formely loop pay will be accepted at nearly all the terminals regardless of NFC capability

The fact they can do Tokenised secure transaction using magnetic field instead of NFC which tricks magnetic swipe readers in believing a card was present is a far better solution right now.

So in this case whilst apple pay will make millions for apple, on this instance it looks like Appled rushed out the gate first whilst Samsung through the buy out of Looppay have provided a far better solution for the short term

The only winner here is the customer

All merchants will have NFC by october anyway so there's that.

Pretty sure they mentioned welcome to 2012 from hardware specs.

The gs6 is the only phone using 8 cores and 14nm finfet.they are a full year ahead of every one now in hardware.

It won't matter when it will get beaten to death on a benchmark by a several months old iPhone 6, but yeah.... impressive spec-sheet.

I know this is an Apple rumor site, but the fanboyism here is pretty disgusting sometimes. I've been on these forums for a long time, and something I've seen over and over again is people trash anything that comes out that isn't made by Apple. The moment Apple makes it, its the best thing ever.

Both phones are good looking devices with a ton of power packed into them. If it wasn't for the fact that I'm not a fan of touchwiz and I can't develop Google Play apps that I can test directly on a Samsung device (has to be a Nexus), I'd buy one. I can care less who copied who. It's like people here forgot that most Apple products that came on the scene weren't the first of their kind.

Nice job Samsung.

Come on guys, apple didn't invent the word pay. This is pure coincidence. The market was leaning toward this. They would have come out with this even if apple didn't introduce apple pay.

Apple also didn't invent fingers, nfc, or the periodic table of elements. Samsung's not copying

Lol. Samsung pay.

IMO they copied the Pay label. Thats fine, but Apple Pay had got a buzz so they go the same way, thats also fine. But no coincidence.

Wow, fanboy galore today. Don't get me wrong I have the iPhone 6 plus. It's full of bugs in IOS 8 though. All companies can take a bashing.. I give samsung props for introducing a 16 megapixel camera and competing with Apple.

camera had f 1.9 lens. Apple is stuck on 2.2
that alone is worth ditching iphone.

D

You are late in the party.. I know that even if they are just parts. It was a complete joke. All my posts in this thread - really just mocking or messing around with the anti-Apple fans posters who keep coming with their memes in this pro-Apple community forum. Gadget pissing contests are stupid. A serious business to many ...

LOL, I'm enjoying this thread, my prime reason to read it is the bashing.

I've used Samsung for mobile payments long before Apple jumped on the bandwagon.
please pay attention.

Yes along with all the Pocket Now Daily staff too
Must be if they don't notice different front, size,layout,markings,back,... Even the sides are different . Apple has fully rounded edges, Samsung only the edges.

I think both phones can send SMS. Damn you Samsung!!!!

So does my rMBP, so does my iPad Air. They also make calls. Im surprised that Samsung didn't cobble together that feature, it's great.

----------

The SD card sux now that it's gone but at least they got rid of 16gb and now give us a base of 32gb.

The battery is no problem because it will charge from 0 to 100 in 30 min and a 10 min blast will give the phone 4 hours of usage.

Samsung went on record saying it's the fastest charging battery in the world.it will charge in half the time the iPhone 6 does and has a way bigger battery then the iPhone 6

Read up on rechargeable batteries. I didn't think it was that fast, and faster isn't better.

I go to dunkin every day and apple pay won't do cap there.you people are saying apple is the reason nfc took off when it don't work in half the places Samsung nfc works at

----------

Ding ding ding all those places had nfc installed and working before apple had nfc or apple pay

It's because of Samsung pushing nfc almost 4 years ago that you have those terminals now and the new Samsung pay will let your phone be used at mom and pop shops that have older magnetic strip machines and will be encrypted and safe with finger print and token.

Samsungs way is a million times better then apple pay

Funny how Samsung was bleeding money in 2014 while Apple was and is rolling in cash from their phone sales.

Did you watch the key note? The pictures and video recording of the gs6 vs 6 plus made the iPhone look like a 10 year old camera.

Real or shopped???

The new cpu is also using 14nm and will have 35% better power efficiency over 20nm and is by far the most powerful chip out at the moment almost 5.5k geekbench

Required to run unoptimised phone

Is well above the 6 plus 3k score

Thats awesome. Try an iPhone A series with these specs and check the score.

Funny how Samsung was bleeding money in 2014 while Apple was and is rolling in cash from their phone sales.
And how does any of this matter to a consumer ? For stock owner's it might be important who is innovating and who is making the most profit but for a regular consume ? Do you also brag on how much profit your plumber has ?

I know. I just find it odd that someone would think that Samsung was copying a discontinued iPhone that is 4 generations old. If anything, the iPhone 6 looks more like a Galaxy S4/S5.

----------

Tough to think that different people like different things? And that everyone in the world doesn't prefer an iPhone?

And Samsung phone sales losing to Apple iPhones in Korea? Samsungs home?

My argument is that the iPhone 6+ is a blatant copy of Samsung's Galaxy Note line.

So far, that argument has not been sufficienty disproven as it is a product that is a direct response to Samsung's Galaxy Note.

Game. Set. Match.

Get over yourself dude. The iPhone 6+ and the Note are just big phones. Not a whole lot of copying going on there if you're just taking your existing product and making is bigger. And Samsung's entire line of smartphones are blatant copies of the iPhone so your point is moot.

In before someone says Samsung copied the rounded sides of iPhone 6

For the moment the price of a 200gb micro sd is around $400 and barely available. A 128gb is around $100. Also, the UFS 2.0 flash storage on the S6 is about 3 to 4 times faster than the latest class 10 micro sd. Besides losing the hot swapable ability, there is nothing else to complain about. That could also be one of the reasons they decided not to include an sd slot. They don't want someone puting a class 4 micro sd card inside, then complain about the S6 lagging. From the Unpacked event, it seems like Samsung is taking Apple's approach at optimized uniformity.

As far as the non removable battery goes. Nowadays, everyone is using portable external batteries. Depending on the mAh, most can fully charge a phone at least twice or more. My last 4 phones had removable batteries, but I always choose to use a portable external battery vs carrying an OEM or non OEM extra battery.

"Pay" is a very generic label. Whether Samsung copied that label or not, it's smart to get straight to the point towards consumers vs using some unique label.
