Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge

Though it is hard to say good thing about Samsung (from Apple fans), but Samsung brought some new things to the mobile world with Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge

1. Camera: The camera of Galaxy S6 is better in low-light
2. 14 nm processor: First in the market
3. DDR4: I think it is better in performance

And as always Samsung copied some Apple stuffs

1. Apple Pay
2. Design

Here are some details on Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge

Dignity, respect, not being a copycat, innovation, theft.. Does any of them ring a bell, Samsung???

Likewise, Apple named things I-this and I-that because that's what everyone else was doing at the time. "Internet" and "Interactive" were hot back then.

And at least Samsung came up with a name unused by anyone else, ridiculously derivative as it might be. (After all, what are the choices? Pay? Wallet? Softcard?)

Apple has at times simply taken trademarked names that others are already using (e.g. iPhone, iPod, App Store) and then bullied/paid their way into ownership. Not to mention trying to trademark "Multi-Touch" as their own, even though it was a well known term.

So in comparison and in the overall scheme of things, "Samsung Pay" is not so bad. Although, man! it's unimaginative, for sure.

Apple Pay does not work on websites. You're thinking of Google Wallet.

The App Store and iTunes both allow Apple Pay.

Shame that they steared this version so much towards the iPhone , after getting away from copying apple blatantly, they are back. And samsung pay..... Disapointing that they called it that.

Will wait and see in person how the phone looks and feels before deciding how much they copied the iPhone 6.

Profit ;)

I can't wait till the drop tests start showing up.

Or bend tests. That glass is going to shiet itself.

Nice finger print magnet you created there Samsung. I can't believe how much iPhone 6 is in the design of this thing. I imagine some people at Apple are getting their jimmies rustled right about now.

Did you watch the key note? The pictures and video recording of the gs6 vs 6 plus made the iPhone look like a 10 year old camera.

The new cpu is also using 14nm and will have 35% better power efficiency over 20nm and is by far the most powerful chip out at the moment almost 5.5k geekbench

Is well above the 6 plus 3k score

I would personally wait until independent reviewers have compared cameras. Samsung is famous for favoring MP above actual image quality. And all manufacturers boost the quality of their promotional photos (see the Nokia incident around image stabilisation a few years ago)

In addition, there is not any point in comparing processor speed between smartphones that do not share the same OS. What should be faster and how should a consumer notice that?

I just cant help but laugh at how funny it is that they are doing away with the removable battery and expandable storage when those are the TWO things that Android fans consistently boast about. They are trying so hard to steal iPhone users its not even funny anymore.

Look at their car industry. Heavily borrowed design from the Japanese yet they've been able to create a strong brand.

I believe its part of their corporate culture. While companies may sue them, that takes time all the while they're profitting through sales. Then eventually pay out the other party.

But kudos to Samsung, at least they put the headphone jack on the other side of the phone along with the speaker. Lolz. Should make a few lefties happy, maybe.

Obviously nothing is an innovation because its samsung right?

Built in wireless charging - Written off as crap but as soon as the iPhone has it there will be hosannas about tim cook being sung in the street

14nm - Since A8 is 20 nm - of course this means nothing as well because its samsung.

This entire thread is full of epic fail.

There is no innovation, because there just isn't. Apple's Iphone 6 wasn't that innovative either yet it kicked Samsung's ass.

Samsung is the king of gimmicks for a long time. Wireless is a gimmick. Nobody cares really.

How well the phone actually performs in real life tasks is all that's really important. It still has to work with Android.. So, I'm guessing that yes, despite the temporary process advantage and the huge amount of memory at 3G, there will still be some lag and stuttering!

BTW, did Samsung invent a new lithography process? Did Intel produce those chips first? No and yes are the answers. Thus it is iteration and evolution and not innovation.

Doesn't mean Samsung haven't done a great job in catching up on TSMC and partially on Intel. There is kudos to be had there.

Also, no worries, Samsung will be happy to take Apple money to produce the next very large batch of chips in 3-4 months. Too bad they missed the last deadline and are not the main supplier of the current chip. They sure could have used the money.

It's no wonder we don't see Samsung CEO anywhere, since he has nothing to say with this inevitable shame. I absolutely don't want to see Apple with no competitor, but Samsung is not one. Why don't we see LG or some other brand as the top competitor and real competitor to Apple? I mean, somebody replace Samsung asap please!!!

Thus it is iteration and evolution and not innovation.

Not trying to attack you, but your usage of innovation is incorrect. The generally accepted definition of what you describe is incremental innovation.

From each iPhone to the next there is a ton of this happening. Examples are the visual matching of iPhone shell components for the iPhone 5 (production innovation) or the thumb detection in the iPad screen margins to avoid misdetection of inputs.

What many consider to be "real" innovation is disruptive innovation (although there is whole spectrum between incremental and disruptive - you can't put them in disrete boxes without lots of disagreement). Examples of disruptive innovation are: the iPhone (actually more a combination of incremental innovations that together became disruptive), the Lytro, the Oculus Rift, etc.

I saw a picture on Twitter and honest to God had to do a double take. I honestly thought it was an iPhone 6. I thought it was a Samsung meme.

The specs seem good though. I'll be interested to hear how the quick charge really works. I've heard 50% battery in 30 minutes... But what does that really mean? 50% standby time? Or LTE video time? My iPhone 5 can charge from 20% to 60% pretty damn quickly but if I'm surfing the web on LTE, it's just gonna drain down quickly again.

I tried that other curved display phone they have in best buy. I can see interesting features from it but I didn't like holding it. Maybe I'm just not used to it. But I gave it an honest chance.

The galaxy already had its own look to it. It had its own style. It speaks volumes of how desperate they are if they had to copy the iPhone 6 so blatantly. Especially after all the negative attack ads.

Definitely looks a whole lot better than that fugly s5. I can do without a replacable battery because i carry a 18,000 power bank in my purse at all times.

But i'm definitely bummed out about the ditching of micro sd card slot. Very bad idea and it is going to come back and bite Samsung right in the behind.

I do love the edge version of the s6. I may pick it up as a secondary phone.

So metal frame, no microsd, no removable battery, Samsung pay, speaker on bottom ..whats next? Apple will buy Samsung, because Samsung is just a fidel brand of Apple, and like Beats THEY WANT TO WORK under Apple brand

Depending on what you are after.
iOS is stale now. iOS is also a visual disaster. The white point is exaggerated and the flat icons are atrocious. If you look at the flat design on the Mac some of the icons still have shape, (contrast Contacts and XCode or HandBrake with Activity Monitor and System Preferences - not everything has to be a square with a radiused corner).
Not that fond of Windows phone either, (used one for work for the past 4 months).
But Android. I’m not hugely keen on one but have only used a single handset briefly in the past, I think it was an XCover something or other. Anyhow, it was just a loner and of course I didn’t move across contacts and music etc. The interface, (not how you actually navigated through it), was much nicer.
What’s stopping me moving across? - Will I be able to sync Music, Contacts and Calendars with an App on the phone and a sister App on the Mac, not in the cloud? At that point I’d like to get rid of Music, Contacts and Calendars on the phone amongst other things. See now one of the accusations I see levelled here against Android is bloat. Well Stocks, Game Centre, Passbook etc etc are all bloat too but I can’t get rid of them.
What’s tempting me? - The GS6.
Trouble is no phone company are going to let me borrow one for 4 months to see how it compares in the real world.

Apple are all about uniformity, (or is it conformity), and that's now becoming a negative for me. Whilst I won’t be getting rid of my Macs anytime soon, (they are far too versatile and can easily be hacked to suit me), I’m not so sure I can say the same for my iPhone as that’s much more of a ‘you will be assimilated'.

Sorry mate. Simply can't agree with you. Android is a tragedy when it comes to the user interface. I help people use their phones with work and there is no comparison when it comes to helping iPhone users compared to Android. It's just easier to do most things on an iPhone than it is on an Android phone.

The Samsad Pay will hardly work in China or Europe!

The Samsad Pay will hardly work in China or Europe or future states even. Because in Europe it is the world of EMV chips and even in China nowadays people use cards with chips, for these cards the magnetic strip function is disabled.

In before someone says Samsung copied the rounded sides of iPhone 6

Samsung Ativ S (2012)

Image

Didn't the Ativ S come after the Galaxy Note II 5.5"? Samsung copied the future iPhone 7S Plus when it comes with 2GB DRAM, precision pen, AMOLED, split screen multitasking, etc.
