In before someone says Samsung copied the rounded sides of iPhone 6

Samsung Ativ S (2012)

There's nothing new under the sun.
Trends go in cycle. But there is always someone who is at the forefront who leads and restarts cycles.

In this regard, Apple started the trend.

Samsung started the large screen trend however, and Apple was the follower there.

Hmmm Iphone 6 has a slight resemblance to the older htc one M8

We can all compare

Nope, Android discouraged the use of SD cards since Android 4.0

Removable battery makes the phone thicker. Samsung added wireless charging and fast charging to compensate.

Honest question, does fast charging degrade the battery over time? If not then I definitely hope we see that with the next iPhone.

I guess only time will tell but battery tech has moved on

Tesla use a fast charge in their cars, they wouldnt use it if it would be at the detriment of the life cycle, time will tell

Of course, the more you recycle the battery, the faster it degrades.

You mean this phone? The back and bottom don't look like an iPhone 6.

And Apple released the 5th gen iPod touch in 2012, the iPhone 6 was obviously a continuation of this design.

Image

And let's not forget the original iPhone design which also featured curved aluminum sides.

The Ativ S was announced 2 months before the iPod Touch 5th gen.

Only the bottom looks similar, the sides and top are very different.

Like if I am the head of Samsung and my employee brought me this phone and I compared it to the iPhone 6 I would probably fire who ever designed this thing. After all of the ad campaigns going at Apple for innovation this would be a huge disappointment in terms of being original. I would just look at the bottom of the two phones and be like WTH is this? You couldn't do a different design? I mean seriously.

Its really sad how a company as big as Samsung has to replicate its biggest competitors flagship model and then instead of coming up with a creative name for its mobile payment system copy Apples and just change it to Samsung. Its really a joke. I am speechless.

And in my opinion the curved edge is kinda gimmicky.

Whilst the name is the same, Samsung Pay formely loop pay will be accepted at nearly all the terminals regardless of NFC capability

The fact they can do Tokenised secure transaction using magnetic field instead of NFC which tricks magnetic swipe readers in believing a card was present is a far better solution right now.

So in this case whilst apple pay will make millions for apple, on this instance it looks like Appled rushed out the gate first whilst Samsung through the buy out of Looppay have provided a far better solution for the short term

The only winner here is the customer

If you say something a lot less secure is better... Well, I can't help you there. Buy your Samsung phone. BTW, strips are on the way out.

Fire the designer because the bottom of the phone is similar?

So what? It's also NFC compatible.

Replaceable battery gone (welcome to the 'wall-huggers' party). SD card slot gone.

Similar storage options as a certain fruity company. Emphases on curves...like a certain fruity company. Glass back...like a certain fruity company.

Mobile payments...you get the idea.

So they mock Apple, then do a u-turn and blatantly copy them.

Nothing new from Samesung

"Samsung Pay", come on!

So all the Apple mockings did not work or backfired, huh?

Back to blatant copying ...

:p

Let me get something straight. Samsung criticized Apple about the iPhone 6/6+ saying welcome to 2012. The S6 is made with a front and back glass design with an aluminum frame, no longer has expandable storage, moved the speaker from the back to the bottom and is no longer water resistant. So it's a larger iPhone 4/4S. Good job Samsung, welcome to 2010.

Wait a second! Didn't Apple criticize large phones when releasing the iPhone 5s?
And that dual edge is totally new this year while Apple releases another S model. We will basically see another Edge next year this time before Apple has their next major revision fall of 2016.

How do you know its less secure, you dont, Mag strips died a death in most of the world bar the us but it gets early buy in, transactions are toeknised so no two card numbers per transaction will be the same, so wheres the risk.

I wont be buying a samsung phone for various other reasons, i just appreciate a nice device

So much for battery swapping.

If the curved display can eliminate thick pillar-like side bezels, why not? There's always something good even in the worst of things - it depends on the beholder.

Samsung Pay
3 colors, gold, silver, black
Non removable battery
No micro SD slot
Similar hardware design
Similar storage options

Welcome to the Samsung iPhone S6.

Manufactured in Korea, designed by Apple in California.

The main distinction between Apple and Samsung (and other top Android makers) these days is the OS/ecosystem. The hardware is all very capable and rather similar, regardless of who copied whom on a particular feature. I'd certainly take a Galaxy S(whatever) running iOS over an iphone(whatever) running Android.

This is a nice incremental update to the hardware, but it's nothing that would make an iOS devotee want to jump ship, and probably nothing that would make a previous generation galaxy owner terribly jealous. (and yes, the same can be said of most apple hardware updates)
