iPhones and iPads can already do multi-tasking in the very definition of it. Can you listen to music and use safari at the same time?

Split WINDOW multi-tasking isn't an Android thing or a Samsung thing. Desktop OSs can do it. So I'm sure Samsung is either playing to the android zealots or just being juvenile in their advertising.

"Better battery will be loved, if Apple stop making things thinner and fit better batteries."
That I'll give you, the rest of your argument is just junk. And when Samsung do something about upgrades to their OS which permit users to keep their mobe's longer than a year in the sure knowledge it's up to date, then they'll have something for Apple to be concerned about. Oh, and making more money than Apple do of course. Till then, Apple are sitting pretty and their customers are in heaven.

Ok, I respect your opinion if you stand by your viewpoint.

I shall expect you to rubbish Apple when they show of two apps on screen running in the future.

I respect people who stand by their opinions, and not simply flip flop depending on what's presented.

So true!
I hate switching tabs, and apps on my ipad, it would be so cool if ios can do it, but that would be copiing...

Honestly, Samsung is pulling away in Apple. Maybe not in sales, but in features and trying new things out. Same thing goes for Google. Apple is like a Microsoft of the 2000s. They have market share and cash, but don't push things. They wait and let other people try things out and push technology. Then they come in an and try to steal the market. Im sorry to say, but the true innovation and magic died with Steve. Watching and waiting on Apple is like watching paint dry. The fun and magic is gone....

Pulling away? Innovation? Where? When?
Bigger screens are not innovation. Gimmicks are not innovation. (Seriously, who is going to walk around bumping their phones together?)
There are features in Android that I think are nice but, for the most part, Apple's approach to them, in most cases, is far more simple and elegant when they finally adopt them.
Samsung's corporate DNA is to steal and copy others and they admit it, as was pointed out in the recent patent case.
Samsung's not leading anything.

why does samsung resort to bashing ipad or apple products in general. i guess the their product is inferior that's why and i read somewhere (not macrumors) that their new galaxy phone is a flop...

I believe that Samsung didn't like Apple's ads so Samsung decided not to copy them. Samsung instead decided to make something on there own and this ad was the result. Who says that Samsung doesn't innovate :).

The ad doesn't show to videos playing side by side. The father is interacting with the app he is using, looks like some game.

And to the people commenting on the other ad showing two people watching the same movie on two tablets, it isn't suppose to be a realistic use case. It is meant to compare the tablet screens. How else would you show one screen is better than the other if not having them show the same pictures on both and in the same room?

Which is why it's a poor ad. That's the point. They've created an ad and the only thing people are talking about is how stupid it is. There's very few posts here about the substance of the ad. Advertising is supposed to make you talk about the product not make fun of the commercial.

And no macrumors is not the only place where people are making fun of this crap. Android forums are too. Again it's like the creepy galaxy gear commercial. Just horrible horrible marketing.

Personally I can't stand the screens on Samsung devices, never liked AMOLED screens. Everything seemed way to contrasted, overly done IMO. I am not a huge fan of LCD's either, only buy Plasma's for my TV's. But that said, I do think Apple's LCD screen's have always looked better then Samsung's screens.

I'll be more than happy to. As soon as Apple allow split screens to show 2 apps requiring separate sound sources at the same time.

I saw the S Tab screen at BB and it is absolutely stunning. No tablet maker comes close to the Sammy screen.

First - who on earth would try to watch a game on a tablet while their kid is trying to watch something else ****on the same tablet***? And what about audio? Does one user gets output from one speaker and the second from the other? Yeah, the lack of multitasking is a bit annoying in an iPad, but at least show it in your ad in a logical way - like watching YouTube and chatting on Facebook.
Oh, and it's not like *their* implementation of multitasking is so great. Far from it.

Second - what's the problem with the iPads screen?

People who big screens are innovative forget the fact that the iPad has a bigger screen. And the android zealots always who cares when you bring that up. And nobody really understands what "multi-tasking" is. They think it's running two apps on the screen at the same time. lol

Not always. Listening to music in one app while browsing in Safari is multitasking.

Hate to bring the bad news, but plasma is dead.

Second - what's the problem with the iPads screen?

There is nothing wrong with an iPad screen until you compare it with a Sammy hi-res screen. I recently purchased an iPad Mini for $200 when Target and Walmart had their sales. The Mini screen was OK until I compared it to the lowly Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 and the difference was striking/shocking.

The Sammy screen was brilliantly white when it needed to produce those colors. The entire color range was vivid. The Mini screen had washed out whites and colors compared to the Galaxy Tab 4.

If I had not compared the two I would have been perfectly OK with the Mini screen. You just have to see them side by side and that's when you decide the iPad screen is just not good enough. I have an iPad 2/3/Air and my favorite screen is the iPad 3. I love the colors and brightness on that thing.

Sammy just excels at display panels.

Big difference. PC was the funny human guy. And it was pretty good-natured. And true enough in most people's experience that the ads and the iPod and iMac were bringing people in. PC still owns the market, there's just rivals.

What's even more funny is that I was tired of waiting for the Mac mini upgrade, which I only needed for a better GPU for games. Long story short, I built myself a low-end gaming PC instead, at 1/3 the price of a Mac mini, and its GPU will still probably be better than the one in the future Mac mini once it comes out. Even if it's not, I'll be able to replace it easily.

But back to the old PC vs Mac ads, I still use my Mac mini for work and I only use my Windows PC for games. So when I boot it, I always imagine PC guy in his business suit playing games, with Mac guy looking at him thinking "Really, PC?". :D

Samsung's latest P&L statement tells how well bashing Apple is working for them. Only a few billion shy of estimates: http://daringfireball.net/linked/2014/07/07/bloomberg-samsung

Well, that's a question where you could also say "if this advertising did work, how much worse would they be? :p

My question with these sort of "bashing" ads is how well do they actually work? I mean, it seems weird to funnel money into stuff without knowing if it works, but I've seen companies do stranger stuff.

To me these are just like poorer versions of the "I'm a PC/I'm a Mac ads". I think it's more a matter of telling people in the "chosen" camp (Samsung, Apple) that they're right, rather than convincing anyone (who, especially in Samsung's case, you've treated as dumb and slavish) to switch. Insulting someone isn't going to make them want to run to you.

In terms of this ad, it's kinda' surprising they actually went into an explanation of the tech. Of course lost in Samsung touting "high contrast ratios" is "our colors are completely off in terms of calibration" :)

Samsung is losing money by the ship loads whereas its wily advertising agencies are getting richer and fatter. They've had to delay their own Tizon OS yet again for unspecified reasons ... maybe it just wants to keep copying iOS ...

It was funny when Samsung first bashed Apple customers for wanting an iPhone and waiting in long lines for it. Now Samsung has bashed Apple customers so much I think there may be a diminishing return because people have seen the same thing many many times before.... The other issue is that many people tried a Galaxy and it just wasnt for them. So they wont even consider it at this point. They need to focus on reliability of their products and software updates and things like that. Right now they arent even competing on the same level as Apple with relation to mobile hardware/software and services.

iPad Mini / Retina is a low quality display when compared to other tablets.

in the real world, the average consumer probably won't notice if they've never used anything else. I'm quite happy with mine.

What about the iPad?

iPhones and iPads can already do multi-tasking in the very definition of it. Can you listen to music and use safari at the same time?

YEAH, and don't forget ALL those apps running in background, that's gotta' count for something MORE than battery drain, right?

Re ads

You're too smart to be posting here.

I guarantee you have PIP...but apparently that concept needs to be explained to you.

Your Apple product has Samsung branded products inside of it...

That's why I said "Samsung branded." If I can see a Samsung logo on the outside, I will never buy it. Ever.

Samsung Tablets Suck Period

In my work I've had to evaluate both Android and iOS tablets to meet the demands of our team. In a nutshell, with the exception of the S-Pen and Evernote integration, the Samsung tablets are a complete waste. They are at best clunky pieces of half baked garbage! The iPad is far from perfect and lack many capabilities I would like to see in a tablet, but what it does do, it does better than any other, and, most importantly, it is reliable. Please save yourself $500.00 hard earned dollars, or at least ignore the hype and thoroughly test the devices for yourself so you don't make the same mistake!

In fact

In fact, if companies began advertising their products as, "Samsung Free," like PVC free or mercury free, I would be totally interested in that product/information.

It would be just as important to me to know that my product is made without any Samsung parts, as I like to know that my product is environmentally friendly.
