So, instead of focusing on the kid and using the app to play with the kid, meaning quality father-son time, the dad wants to split the screen so the kid can have the kid app, and he can have his dad app and they can ignore each other?

Oh, yes, and Apple's "parenting" tv ad shows the parents all focused on using kid apps to play with the kids, help the kids, engage the kids.... Hmm....
This. I paged through comments until finding someone who had the same reaction - what a jerk of a dad that he can't spend time and let his kid watch a video - he keeps pulling it away to check his game or whatever and rolls his eyes and looks at the kid like he is a major pain in the bottom. My impression was NOT "split screen / multitask on screen - what a great feature" (which it actually is) but "WHAT A LOUSY DAD!"
