Weird. And I'm anything but an Apple "fanboy" (actually highly critical and more a forced iPhone user after Blackberry's demise...).
Who is the target audience for this? I think this mostly caters to the segment where Samsung et al are doing pretty well already. This won't win over North American business users or white folks sitting at Starbucks...
Apple in the US can just let this go and I hope they resist the urge to put out anything with a bigger screen (if anything I want a smaller iPhone again). Maybe put a regular phone app into one of the small tablets (or all of them) and let people decide how they want to use it (I know, that's not really the Apple way, letting people decide...) I personally don't need a tablet of any size - at least not until it replaces a full fledged laptop.
What's more interesting from a marketing perspective is what Apple wants to do to increase it's share in Europe and other markets where competitors beat them. And that's probably more of an image thing and not a device issue.
