Samsung Bashes iPhone Screen Size and iPad Multitasking in Two New Anti-Apple Ads

Weird. And I'm anything but an Apple "fanboy" (actually highly critical and more a forced iPhone user after Blackberry's demise...).

Who is the target audience for this? I think this mostly caters to the segment where Samsung et al are doing pretty well already. This won't win over North American business users or white folks sitting at Starbucks...

Apple in the US can just let this go and I hope they resist the urge to put out anything with a bigger screen (if anything I want a smaller iPhone again). Maybe put a regular phone app into one of the small tablets (or all of them) and let people decide how they want to use it (I know, that's not really the Apple way, letting people decide...) I personally don't need a tablet of any size - at least not until it replaces a full fledged laptop.

What's more interesting from a marketing perspective is what Apple wants to do to increase it's share in Europe and other markets where competitors beat them. And that's probably more of an image thing and not a device issue.

YES !!THANK YOU GOD FOR listening to my prayers!!! For years and years I've missed the magic ear cleaning stick included with my Phone and now... IT's F#cking back!!! I can finally clean my ears as I can't hear ***** anymore while watching your FULL HD commercial crap :cool::apple:

These ads are hilarious! I laughed so hard. I love capitalism. The more competition Apple gets the better my next iPad will be :) An intuitive multitasking option is sorely needed, we'll get there!

Sure, Samsung has advanced in some ways at an OS level and some other clever things but the point is that the iPad is the most reliable device with the longest battery life and the best app store

THIS ! People want to know how many hours of movies can they watch before recharging..How many beautiful apps they have access to...Multi tasking is a very good and "important" feautre for a large tab , but it by itsell is not a MARKET MAKER..it needs to be backed up..Whats stopping apple or google for tweaking their next software to allow for this? What will samsung have over the others then? given IOS and android should do a much better job of integrating multi screen tasking then any layer of software on top of an OS.

Samsung clearly demonstrate why they are so far behind.

Apple is an easy target on what might be seen as minor differences that most don't care about.

Multitasking on one screen, yep that old chestnut. I own a laptop and use most things in full screen and tab between apps like on the iPad, why you say don't i use side by side, because it's a COMPROMISE for both apps and most people concentrate on a task one at a time.

Larger is no better, that's like saying my big car is better than your small car but doesn't actually mean you get a better car, it's down to what you want out of the car, city driving, economic, off road etc.

A stylus, ok go and show me why i want one because last i saw, styluses are the domain of traditional click target os's not touch os's like ios. you never need have a stylus and if you are inventing a touch os to use a stylus you are making the finger more difficult to use not easier!

Full HD, ok I challenge anyone to see there difference between 720p and 1080p on both phones at 12 inches. you won't not even possible i guarantee you won't be able to do it. Yes you can pixel peep but your eye can't resolve the fine detail let alone in a MOVING image.

Screen size, ok ok, yes the 4 inch iPhone is small but come on it makes sense for a phone to fit in your pocket, i'm sure apple will bring larger sizes soon as they have with tablets.

Samsung need to really rethink their whole approach, they copy and try to improve but end up still not matching the originators.

The only time I would ever respect and appreciate one of their designs is if they were truly different from the ground up but there are so many aspects that are direct rip offs even the manner of their marketing is a direct rip.

same old marketing

This is just the same ad slightly different products. People are going to start tuning them out soon enough.

Funny how apple doesnt need to compare itself to samsung and does very well.

That's because they're in first place, and everyone knows about the iPad. Back before the days of the iDevices, when Macs were trailing behind Windows PCs, Apple did all kinds of "we're better than those guys and here's why" ads, just like this.

apple_ad.jpg

It's less "Apple would never do that cuz it's tasteless and stupid", and more "Apple doesn't have to do that right now because they're making boatloads of money and are currently considered the standard".

Samsung forgot to mention that instead of iOS it runs Android. Eww. Even worse, it runs their Touchwiz version of Android.

Although if I were Samsung I wouldn't mention Android or Touchwiz either.

I find the capabilities of the Samsung very interesting. However, size is simply not an appropriate comparison any longer now that the Samsung phone is so much larger. In my opinion they are 2 distinctly different form factors, one not being better than the other. I personally would not want a phone that large, regardless of manufacturer or OS.

haha i actually like these commercials, since they're telling the truth. I mean come on, its 2014 and on ipad you still cant have 2 apps on one screen at the same time.

Because it's not a laptop and two it's a cluster ******* that does not improve your life.

Where do I need to be while on the go that I have to have a quick photo shop text message session that requires 10 mins to send a text of a picture I can get from Google images rather than cut from video.

What a mess.

Unlike most the other Samsung adverts, I have to admit, these were actually pretty good.

Look a pencil, behind the pencil if the iPad air, behind that the even thinner Samsung model which also has a higher resolution screen AND does 2 things on screen at once.

Like it or not, that's really going right in there with three direct points that hit hard.

If this ad was reversed the iPad was Thinner, Higher Res Screen and could run 2 things at once on Screen, we all know Apple fans would be loving it.

Phone wise, I think we all know the iPhone's screen has gone from world class to wow behind the others. and will be applauded with they finally get around to improving it to bring them back in line later this year

Huh. I never realized you could do side by side app multitasking on the Tab. That's the only enticing thing to me here. Would be nice to see Apple make that possible for iPad owners in the future.

I would like to know what this "HD Screen" thing is that they are talking about. If they are just saying it has a screen resolution of 1920x1080 then i think Samsung has hit a new low. At this point they are just marketing to keep their existing client base, anyone who knows anything about technology should easily see through the apple bashing and the skewed facts.

These ads just keep the general public dumb by using misrepresented advertising tactics to make the consumer feel as if they have something superior to everything else, when it's mostly the same.
Yes. HD falls between 1280x720 to 1920x1080. That's pretty much what they were going for. The Galaxy phone has an HD screen while the iPhone at 1136x640, doesn't have an HD screen.

Is 0.2 mm a noticeable difference? It's the equivalent of two sheets of paper. Is anyone really going to pick up the Air and then the Tab and say, "oh yeah, I like how much thinner it is"???

How is having an option for another form of input worse? You don't have to use it. And based on sales of 3rd party styli for the iPad and iPhone - I would tend to think many would welcome it - even if they are a vocal minority on MR

More like minority of iPad owners could welcome it. Still not really a selling point however

I don’t ever feel constrained by the inability to have a split screened experience. I’m not saying it should’t be done... It’s just that the iPad is so good at immersing us in each app’s universe, that I feel like a split screen is not the greatest of ideas.

So typically Samsung ...

Apple has a 4" screen ? We have a bigger one !
But it's ridicusly huge !
Well .... We have a bigger one !

Apple has a thin tablet ? We have a thinner one !
But it lacks proper tablet apps !
Well ... We have a thinner one ! :rolleyes::rolleyes:

I like the idea of multi screen tasking..of course, it would be totally useless on a 4 inch phone..on a larger phone if implemented well it could of some use..On a tab its outright a MUST have going forward..As i'd love to watch a video while i clear my inbox or reply to mail etc..I really like the way the new PAPER app is heading, that would be cool if we could have swipes like that control apps and be able to remove and/or resize them...a double tap on the screen gives me choices on apps and once i choose i can just use "paper" like UI to control them..Thats just my imagination i guess, The best i could come up with..

Im glad samsung is appealing to its dbag fanbase segment. The voice in these commercials remind me of that guy in college that made fun of everybody.

Somehow Samsung commercials have managed to get even more annoying. I didn't think it was possible, but there it is.

And yet Apple, Netflix, and other streaming services get to board HD broadcasts because of resolution but many customers fail to understand that resolution (for video) alone isn't the only factor - bitrate is a huge factor.

Apple for a long time has touted Retina display. Samsung taking advantage of what is and isn't HD isn't hitting a low. It's capitalizing on a differentiator.

If you watch a 720p video on both devices, you won't notice a difference. If you view a 1080p Full HD video on both devices, the difference will be clear. The higher resolution screen will easily display a sharper and more detailed image while the 1080p video has to be downconverted to 640p on the iPhone and it will lose a lot of information. It will naturally look softer.
