Will you say that if/when Apple release a larger phone and megapad?

Of course I would. How would that change anything?

"First and foremost" does not mean "only". iPad mini and iPhone 5c are market reaction to competition, and not a direct result of Apple competing with themselves. But even there, you can see where they didn't just "me too" a product, but did it with a design and fit and finish that only Apple ever seems to consistently strive for.

What is really funny about this thread is the fact that there are so many Samsung and some MS defenders on what started as an Apple based website.

Why are they here and not on their own samsungrumors.com website gushing about how good "their" company is?

Cuz Samsungrumors.com is just a livestream of three guys eating a sandwich. It's kinda boring over there.

Yeah, iPad can't do more than one thing (you know in 2010)...and kindle can't watch videos....seriously? What next? This printed magazine can't get online! My TV can't show my email! This is ridiculous.

...that's generated a 15 page (and growing) thread full of people talking back and forth about something that apparently doesn't bother anyone in the least.

If everyone here really didn't care as much as they claim they don't care, this thread would've sunk to the bottom of page 1 within an hour of it's initial posting.

She wrote a book painting Post-Job's Apple in a negative light. It was sick filth that should be banned from bookstores and burned in bonfires.

Its so unnecessary.

What's even funnier is that there are people like you who will blindly follow Apple regardless of what they do. I don't care if this is an "Apple Based Website" or not, believe it or not, Apple is not always right and all products NOT made by Apple suck.

For me, Macrumors is a fair site that allows everyone to express their opinion (And, I am a Mac and PC user so it works for me). If you want a website full of blind trolls that has a strong "Apple is the Greatest" slant, try MacDailyNews.

i thought it was pretty funny, especially the "retina thing". With that said, that commercial would never get me to switch!

This ad is deceptive in its representation of the Kindle product line.

Samsung didn’t show the screens of any of the other tablets, and I believe that was a tactic used by Samsung to deceive consumers and deter them from buying a Kindle Fire.

The whole commercial was comparing tablets, and then threw in Amazon’s e-reader–not Amazon’s Kindle Fire, which does do more than “just books”. Samsung did not refer to Amazon's device as the Kindle Paperwhite; the ad only mentioned Amazon's device as being a Kindle. This is Samsung’s strategy of trying to reinforce in consumers’ minds the idea that word “Kindle” is synonymous with books, and only books.

I always have to explain the differences between an e-reader and a tablet to less tech-savvy consumers, and Samsung has seized upon this confusion to unfairly lump the Kindle Paperwhite and the Kindle Fire into the same category in order to mislead consumers, and thus deter them from buying a Kindle Fire. People who just want to read books on an e-ink screen buy Paperwhites. People who want something like an iPad buy the Kindle Fire, Microsoft Surface, or Samsung whatever. They are two completely different products.

This is a shameful practice on Samsung’s part, not unlike how Samsung was boosting the benchmark scores in their phones with special software. Amazon may have a case to get the ad pulled. I don’t appreciate any form of misinformation, and I imagine other consumers don’t appreciate being treated like idiots.

Here’s a bit of False Advertising terminology:

I guess when you got nothing to lose, any wild card counts. I agree with others, comparing your Samsung with a Kindle? Compare like for like.

Hahaha, that’s ridiculously random, but funny. Plus, the way you wrote it, sounds like 3 guys eating the _same_ sandwich.

“Quick, look, one guy is taking a pickle off ... no, you missed it ..."

"Terrible" by what metrics? Overall they're one of the most successful consumer electronics companies on the planet. They make a whole bunch of pretty great products.

I notice that you, too, failed to understand what a change in market cap actually means.

Also - last I checked, A lot of people on this board were praying and hoping they had Samsung SSDs and Screens in their Apple products vs other suppliers.

I guess it's impossible to imagine a world where people use more than one company's tech.

It's actually a hot pocket.

Hilarious. I'm not a big surface fan personally, but to put the ability to use a keyboard and mouse as a negative is terrible IMO. Thank god for having a real OS for the my business and personal needs. I find it hilarious that they chop down the ipad for lack of multitasking (which is well deserved) but do that while sitting next to a windows tablet which obviously trounces it in multitasking, windows, etc.
Out of them all the Surface Pro is the most capable.

Just because people like me think the ads are pretty good doesn't make us "Samsung defenders." It's merely objectivity.

Liking a product doesn't mean you have to agree with everything the parent brand does, nor does it mean you need to denigrate every action of a competitor.

Blind bias is one of the most dangerous things people can have in any part of their life.

I don't own one SS product, but, this ad is good. Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

Excellent point. They really do make a fair amount of quality stuff, don't they? This is just a case of the ad being inconvenient for people whose world view is aligned with "Apple or bust."

Really, I don't understand why it's so hard for people to accept that consumers are not a homogenous mass and instead have varied and heterogeneous preferences. In fact, the irony around all this outrage is that the well-known Apple "1984" commercial was oriented around this very notion. Products differentiate themselves, and consumer choices fall out accordingly. Why is that such a bad thing? Me no get it!

Interesting and fair comparison. I feel much more informed now about the choices in the tablet market than I was before viewing this advertisement.

I think I'll get an iPad and a Kindle now.

You are so bad :) and funny. And certainly not anywhere near as bad as that lead ballon Samsung just tried to float. The thing is so weighed down by the nonstop bash. It's missing that little bit of lightheartedness that was in all the Apple vs PC ads, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

Maybe part of it is that that those Apple ads were done from the viewpoint of the products themselves. So on one level you know it's like, joking around. No matter what machine you own, you don't feel threatened. The deeper level, the payload, just sort of creeps into your head as time goes on. "Apple feels bad for Microsoft... awww, poor Microsoft, being such a dullard, so behind the curve." They never say exactly that. They pretty much let the products act it out, and you get to articulate your own conclusion even though you're led to it.

The Apple ads didn't risk offending people by having one "real" person diss another "real" person for making a product choice. I mean in this Samsung ad there are all sorts of opportunities to take offense if you like your MS or Apple products. How seriously will you examine the alternative tablet being offered by Samsung? But in those Apple vs PC ads, you're merely invited to consider an Apple product standing there consoling some poor ol' Microsoft product for not being quite as put together. They were charming ads, even if you happened to own and love a Windows-based machine. The message just felt more like "Maybe time to take another look at Apple", not "Wow you are so out of it if you actually like a Microsoft computer."

No, that'd make for a far more exciting watch. It's just these three guys sitting side by side, each eating their own sandwiches for hours on end. About the only thing that happens beyond that is sometimes someone will come in and drop off a new sandwich for them to eat.

...and they don't even look like they're good sandwiches. The whole thing is a terrible waste of bandwidth.

No, what's really funny is people who only want to be surrounded by people who agree with them. Sad is a better word. There are much less "defenders" than you think, rather most of us aren't fanboy blinded users stuck to one company. We use whatever company suits our needs, whether it's Apple, Samsung, Microsoft, or whoever has something which helps us in our business/personal lives.

Seriously, what kind of discussion are you going to have if only Apple fanboys frequented these forums? "Hey, that ad by Samsung was onerous", "yeah you are right", "yep", "hey I agree, I love Apple". Then that would pretty much be the end of the thread. Not much flavor in that. Nah, I prefer the real world where people do have differing opinions which birth interesting discussions and sometimes may change others minds, or I may (and have) change my mind about something.

Maybe this is why Apple is switching manufacturers, probably along with the fact that SamDung is a terrible company.

Apple is definitely doing the right thing. They strive to give us customers the best possible products and experiences. Relying on Samsung for anything really compromises on this sacred commitment. So whatever the reasons I'm very happy Apple us phasing Samsung out.

Agreed. And the Mac guy was never rude about it.

Personally the only Samsung products I buy are TV's, monitors, SSD's, washer, dryer, dishwasher, and fridge. Everything else is crap.

That's a lot of Samsung products. I own zero Samsung products unless their components are used in them and I don't really have any control over that. There are a lot of alternatives to Samsung in those electronic and appliance segments that are just as good if not better.

Why give Samsung your hard earned money so they can bully everyone else with misleading marketing? With that said, you can buy whatever you want, but Samsung is an ugly corporation that will do whatever it takes to be #1 and push everyone else out.

Samsung ads used to be funny, like the original gs3 ones with the line outside of the Apple stores. Now instead of making their customers looks cool and hip, they're making them come off as smug *******s

I didn't think that GS3 ad made the guy look very cool or hip at all. The ad reminded me of a Toyota Venza ad in which a daughter sat at home counting FB friends and likes while her parents enjoyed the outdoors with real friends. The GS3 guy seemed like a pathetic, lonely loser with nothing to live for but his phone's spec sheet.

Just to even things out, I do think the new ads are reminiscent of Apple's Mac vs "PC" ads. Those who don't see it are delusional. The Mac ads often had no basis in fact and compared current generation Mac characteristics to past generation Windows ones.

Remember the Mac vs PC ads? Same thing.

Also, competition is good, people. Apple has more reason to innovate/produce better products when they have competitors doing things (ex. here's hoping the next iPad can have two apps side by side).

Hmm, that being said, when those ads came out, I was a sting PC user (at the time), and I found them really funny and informative. Apple made those ads to compete with PCs yet didn't make the PC user feel like crap.
