Not sure which 'side' you're on here, but let me just let you know that Android has had OTA updates for a very long time, way before iOS.

Yeah, and it can take up to a year, or an eternity, for the software updates to trickle alllllllll the way through the air to your Android phone.

I'm not just mindlessly bashing here, I've experienced this myself. I've had 4 Android phones before

But they never receive any updates... So that OTA update facility is quite useless... :p

Funny, i like it

But are they serious? Will this run on tv networks.

This commercial at the same time is one of the worst attempts to sell a product. What were they thinking, you don't chastise and pick fault with a rival product. It shows no imagination.

I'm frankly quite sick of this pathetic industrial sniping going on. Law suits on a weekly basis and now stupid commercials like this. Fine if it's a joke, it's funny.

But Samsung as one of the biggest component suppliers to Apple across the board of products so its puzzling that another division of their company can continuously peruse law suits and these unacceptable adverts.

Apple will eventually just say F-U, and get someone else who can ship the volumes of components they need, they are probably try to get people to up their capacities as we speak. Samsung would loose hundreds of millions if Apple pull the contract. OR, do it themselves which is a mammoth operation.

Doesn't make fun of me...

I pre ordered.

This is going to be a terrible own goal for Samsung.

'oh look people are queuing for a phone it's so popular. I'm going to get a different one straight away, that no one is queuing for'.

I just don't get it.

They picked on thousands of people in this commercial. It's a risky Move by SAMSUNG. But it was funny.

Anyone who waits in lines for hours, camps out needs mental help......unless its Scarlett Johansen giving naked hugs its retarded.

And people who tailgate before football games are retarded as well......

When iPad 2 launched I went to best buy and counted 7 pairs of these in line. I laughed out loud for the first time in a long time.

I have two pair of these and I'm in no way a hipster. These things are beasts.

I've been thinking about it since yesterday and I've finally decided this is a bad move for Samsung. At first I didn't want to criticize it because, A, it's funny and, B, it's a lot like "I'm a Mac" so it sure seems fair.

So because of those 2 factors I didn't want to say anything bad about it. But then I started to realize the subtle difference between this and "I'm a Mac."

Apple was saying "Hey, non Apple customers. Your computer isn't fun, shouldn't you try something better? You deserve it."

Samsung is saying "Hey, non Apple customers. Apple customers are stupid. Don't become one of them."

In other words, Apple was being confident and trying to gain customers whereas Samsung is acting fearful and trying to not lose customers. It's a subtle difference but it's a very, very different goal. So Samsung is apparently given up on trying to lure iPhone customers back? They're limiting their marketing to people who have never tried an iPhone? That's not good.

So I'm not even judging whether it's a good ad for selling products (it probably is). I'm just saying that this doesn't make Samsung look good. You probably shouldn't make an ad showing people that you're scared, even if it does sell phones.

Totally apples vs. oranges. Makes no sense why folks stand in line for a phone (and I love my 4S). I ordered the day before and it showed up the day after release. Instant gratification has gotten out of hand. I'm guilty of it just not with a phone.

Well, from a sheer "wow factor" - Samsung phone screens look amazing. For reading text, the iPhone screen is better. For actual color accuracy, both are terrible. The Samsung screens are insanely over-saturated, the iPhone screen is washed out and dull looking. My HTC Desire had far more accurate color than either one.

The Samsung devices offer faster speeds than the iPhone, more features on paper, and technically seem like all around better devices. I LOVE some of the reference and research features of Android and having used both operating systems extensively, I can honestly say, I find Android far more USEFUL.

Yet, I have an iPhone 4S and I just upgraded from an iPhone 4 I bought in June (AT&T is new to our area and allowed everyone here to upgrade at new contract price since they're new here). Why?

1. The camera is the best I've seen.

2. Text messaging. Enough said. Apple knows how to get things like the software keyboard right.

3. Fashion. I won't lie, I choose iPhone as much for fashion as for functionality. Guess what? That's NOT a bad thing, unlike certain a certain carrier's ads make it sound. The iPhone is dang pretty. Have you seen a GS2? The screen's great. But the device itself? It looks really business-y. The only Android phones I would seriously consider competitive, possibly even better in this area are some of the Sony phones.

Things I miss from Android:

Google Calendar integration, Google Sky Map, Google Talk (3rd party apps aren't NEARLY as good before you suggest it), homescreen widgets/customizability, Google Maps & Navigation.

Yeah, most of those things are Google services. But said Google services become a huge part of your life... and are genuinely far more useful than anything else.

Samsung shipped loads of phones, because they come "free" with contracts. You'll get a top Samsung for a £30 a month contract. The iPhone you'd be paying £40 a month and £200 for the phone.

maybe they learned it from apple. mac vs pc?

i loved the commercial, i don't think it shows fear but i agree that "mocking" potential customers may not be a smart move... however, the people they are making fun of have already waited in line for and gotten the 4s so they aren't really potential customers anyway...

That really made me laugh, as I thought about all the cookie cutter iPhones being clutched by soccer moms, old people, and the big ego people that largely buy an iPhone to look cool.

Only to return to the Apple store to get educated on how it works.

Ahh, the hypocrisy in action. Much to do about nothing.

The greater question is, what will become of these incredibly insecure, vain people as the iPhone loses it's luster. Already every Tom Dick & Sally has one.

Just what happens when iPhone has finally saturated the market & is no longer the GOD of smartphones.

I think they're will be some very lost souls.

A pity really.

"Much to do" about nothing? I believe the term is "much ado"?

You have no idea what you're talking about do you... You still think that most people use iPhones to be "cool"? That's about as primitive as one's thinking gets.

And cookie cutter iPhones... What exactly have the iPhones been cookie cutters of? Themselves? Because its a shame that they don't fragment their products like all others right? I know it souds as though I'm biased towards Apple but it just comes down to not making uninformed individual claims about many things like the "coolness" of having an iPhone. It's not 2007 anymore

I laughed at "Samesung" in the title of this thread more.

Is this a pun directed at the Samsung/Apple design shenanigans OP? If so, well played! :D

The difference here is Samsung made fun of the apple users not point out hardware faults or limitations.

In fact the only thing they mentioned in that commercial was how the samsung had a bigger screen and 4g.

Big deal? The only thing droid phones can shout about is being bigger and better in the specifications spreadsheet marathon. The fact is, phones get released at different times so it's easy to pick faults on new v older.

At least the mac v pc commercials whilst they did stereotype social skills and appearance at least they explained why a mac is better.

This video whilst funny is just sniping at personality and makes no claims of breakthrough technology.

4g, great, but whats the point when loads of networks don't fully support it yet and there are data caps making it pointless.

lol yes most people take into consideration cost when buying something. Apple plays on that but in a diffirent way. They put a huge mark up on it to trick people into thinking it must be better than anything else.

cheaper & more functionality is a winner for a lot of consumers. Apple fanboys dont mind being ripped off.

That's pretty much my point...it seems Samsung is outright admitting that they can't win back iPhone customers. (Or, at the very least, are unwilling to try.)

That makes me worry for them.

i take it you havnt been to any android galaxy s2 forums recently. Since it was released in europe there's been more "i came from iphone" threads than ive ever seen in the android forums.

That one phone i guarantee has brought more iphone users to android than any other droid phone in history. Couple of reasons for this.

1. the disapointment of apple releasing the 4s instead of the much rumoured 5

2. bigger screen attracting them (which iphone 5 was meant to have)

3. feels like more of an upgrade compared to going from iphone4 to 4s.

After reading some of the posts i was expecting a really harsh advert but its really very tame considering what they could have said. I dont think theyre conceding at all i think theyre reminding the rest of the iphone crowd there's a more advanced alternative to iphone right now. (4g being the main point)

Well that makes the ad even worse.

I thought they were admitting they couldn't bring iPhone users over. You're telling me that they could do it but have decided not to try? Baffling.

I'm just gonna get the Lumia 800. Looks A LOT better than any other phone out atm and I wanna try out something new. The iPhone is basically the same since the first one. (I know, a lot better specs and a small design change, but still, I want something new)

its ALMOST impossible to win over customers who have just upgraded and are therefore ineligable to upgrade so they're not losing much by mocking them. that's what i meant.

Yes, it was intentional. That is what I call the company now. "Samesung": able to produce the best Apple knockoffs for their customers. It's a joke of a company.
