You apple fools! This is hilarious. It is targeting people who need to upgrade. Apple can easily poke fun at Samsung's phone from that same year. The guy and kid with the hair cut was too funny though.

They should have also shown the S9 headphone jack.

Samsung hardware and screens are Top notch! (pun intended). I'm glad they put this ad out. They should keep hitting apple with all the stupid decisions from Apple. They should also make fun of how bad Siri is, but bixby is pretty crappy so maybe not the greatest idea to point it out,

It's cute that they show her tearfully visiting the Apple Store.

Remind me again... where do you go for in-person tech support for Android? Yeah...

That and the fact that they're comparing an outdated phone that few people are actually using anymore. Nice try, Samscum.

Whatever Samsung phone came out the year of the iPhone 6 is probably significantly slower. This ad would only make sense if they were implying that their devices can maintain strong performance for 4 years, and somehow prove it.

I also can't imagine how frustrated her mom would be when she starts having green bubble messages with her daughter!

What phone was that? The Samsung Galaxy S5? I've had numerous samsung galaxy phones and they all start to decrease after the 6 month mark. I bought my gf a s7 that was barely used and in two months she told me it started having issues. Instead of buying a iPhone 7 or 8 she bought a s9... hope it works out for her.

That's your POV though, right? But I doubt PC users thought the same. Just like how the majority of people here think the Samsung ad is stupid, deceitful, etc. but I bet Samsung users think its funny and clever.

Also, what is untrue in the Samsung ad?
Well, it drips with phoniness and irrelevance since they are comparing a 4 year old device to their flagship. Ever used a 4 year old Android? Not pretty. They also don't actually raise any new or fair points. The "lag" you see is never an uncut shot. iPhones are known for their longer life spans and speed, so it's really confusing what they are targeting. It seems they are mainly referencing "throttlegate," but Apple has solved this for their customers with new batteries.

They can talk smack all they want, but at least be relevant and fair. It's also a more desperate move to single out one manufacturer (who by the way is dominating you) in your ads. They aren't working. The Mac/PC ads were better executed and a long time ago. As you can see, Apple has grown up and markets their products with their features, style, etc now. They don't feud with other companies in ads.

I don't think "old iPhones lag" is even close to consensus and is probably more true of Android phones, which aren't even supported after 4 years. Even IF it were true, it's still weak to compare new devices with 4 year old ones.

Really self conscious about my notch haircut now
I only wish I still had enough hair to manage a notch haircut.
[doublepost=1526595471][/doublepost]It would be interesting to see in a comparison of equivalent age android OEMs with the iPhone 6. It hasnt been worth the bother, but if Samsung starts this sort of dirty pool, someone will get around to it.
Maybe:
  • Availability of OS updates
  • Uptake of OS updates
  • Performance impact of OS updates
  • Battery capacity at 300, 400 and 500 cycles.
  • What happens when running the phone with a degraded battery (speed, shut downs etc)

Pretty funny. Samsung is coming for Apple hard.
People buy apple for a couple reasons: security, the syncing between devices, customer service, local stores, iMessage & FaceTime, and probably a few other things I am not thinking of off the top of my head.

People buy Samsung flagships for one reason: those devices typically has what apple doesn't and they usually bring it to market first.
Look at the fast wireless charging, and even the quick charging out of the box. The LED screens, memory card slot, & headphone jack.

S6 has no battery throttling fiasco rendering your phone 50% or more slower that the iPhone 6 has.

It doesn't.. it just dies or crashes without any throttling. I love an honest phone

What memory card slot?

They used a 6 because of the battery slow down issue. It's fair game.

My Samsung Note 4 bought mid 2015 can only run Android 6.0.1 (Marshmallow).
My iPhone 6S+ bought 4 months later still runs the latest iOS.

So now the Note 4 has missed out on Nougat and Oreo.

That's not entirely Samsung's problem but does highlight the issue of Android devices in general.

There's nothing wrong with the Note 4. I can buy a cheap replacement battery. The screen is still great. I can add large SD cards for storing music and videos. It takes good photos and video. It just can't run the latest Android OS. (I actually use the phone when traveling so I can put a local SIM card in it without worrying about losing my home phone SIM card).

If Samsung want to talk slow software then they should support their older hardware with OS updates for longer.

All these Android companies want is to sell you a new phone.

Not liking the iPhone X with the ugly notch and smaller screen and hence not updating last year has forced me to use older hardware for longer than I normally would. Strangely, while not cutting edge anymore, the 6S+ has worked fine.

Perhaps we shouldn't be upgrading every two years but replacing batteries instead.

If I don't like the options Apple put on the table in September, I might go completely retro and just upgrade the battery for another year or two. My world isn't going to stop if I can't use Animoji :)

Which is why the Note 4 still runs like a top. I have one and love that it's not getting slower and slower with each OS iteration.

Hmmmm ... My wife's 6 never does that.

It reminds me of my HTC One on Ice Cream Sandwich when it was a month old. Its the reason why I moved to iPhones.

Misleading OP, Joe. Why do you need to be dishonest about the ad? Did you figure that most people won't watch the ad? You are probably right based off of the majority of comments on here.

As others have stated, the ad isn't comparing the iPhone 6 to the Samsung s9. It's basically stating that if you are on an older iPhone, you should upgrade to a Samsung. But if you had actually told the truth, there wouldn't be this many comments.

There's plenty of stuff to bash Samsung, this isn't really one of them. Were you triggered when you saw the ad and so that is why you had to lie in the OP?

It's a fair ad. If someone were still on the iPhone 6, could only afford to upgrade every 4 years, didn't like the notch, and the apps they used were all cross platform, this ad might work on them.

However, in four years this consumer will be in exactly the same situation, with the one exception being the majority of Samsung smartphones will also have a notch. Dread it, run from it, the notch still arrives.

These ads are brilliant. They’re clearly targeting those people who haven’t upgraded in a while. Honestly, Samsung Ads are miles better then Apples. The stupid “what’s a computer” ad and the other iPhone ads are trash. Sorry. It’s funnny watching people squirm over these ads though. Feeling a little insecure?
Completely agree. Everyone is getting all in their feelings about this commercial, but seem to forget mac vs pc commercials, or the ads that tried to portray Android in a negative light. Funny how things are when the shoe is on the other foot.

any ad that puts down their competitor's product is way way way worse than ads that promotes their device? in this instance, apple is the one that promotes their product and doesnt compare it with their competitor but i cant say the same for samsung. never gonna get a samsung even if i change to android

I don’t think anybody read the “article”. Who needs some schmo’s take on an ad when you can just watch the ad itself?

To be honest, I feel like the article part is just there for the clicks.

Apple sold hundreds of millions of the iPhone 6's, so I don't think the performance of 4 devices

Really? In their commercials they said to Buy a Mac instead? I never saw one of those, they just point out a crappy PC feature, then show a Mac at the end... hence the passive suggestion.

Also, the Samsung ad isn't deceitful. People still use iPhone 6's, and they have the issues that Samsung claims they have (as supported by various people on this thread). Thus, Samsung is suggesting to get their device over another Apple device, which is exactly that the Mac vs. PC ads did. They aren't trying to compare a 4 year old device to an S9, and I'm not sure what that's so hard to understand. If you don't have an iPhone 6, then you aren't the target audience for the ad.
There are plenty of iPhone 6 users who don’t have the user experience that Samsung faked for this ad. Samsung left any credibility they had with those folks on the editing room floor; I can’t imagine they’d be in any hurry to go buy a Samsung. I’m sure you’re aware there are very few iPhone —> Android switchers, and the iPhone 6 user base is a small pool to draw from in any case.

This commercial is really meant to stroke the egos of Samsung’s existing customers, attempting to reinforce the confirmation bias that they made the right choice buying Samsung. At this point it’s more important to try to stop bleeding customers, it’s much easier than trying to find a replacement for one it may lose. A lot of potential customers are apparently skipping the S9, and Samsung’s gotta try to keep them in their camp as they wait on the sidelines.

I suppose that’s why I’m an Apple fan. I’d happily give up any of those features you mentioned to stay with iOS. Those things are nice to haves (for me), but they don’t take precedence over Apple hardware or iOS.

Agreed. I don’t see iOS failing on me, but surprisingly the Pixel line is the only Android I’d ever consider.

"The woman's woes start at an airport security checkpoint, where a security officer reminds travelers to have their boarding passes and IDs ready. The woman taps on the Wallet app on her iPhone, but a white screen appears,"

Although that is right, even today, Apple has missed the boat with 10.3.3

The brightness does insensitivity up to full when u you open the app, yet reduces brightness when u close it.

Sumsung know how to do 'sneaky' ads though :D
