If iPhone had a 4.5 inch screen, I wouldn't even consider anything else. Since it does not, I am looking. I think the Skyrocket is a very nice device.

I realize this is off topic, but if you're looking at a 4.5 inch device, HTC Vivid or Skyrocket. The Vivid is a beautiful device, with an amazing camera and no real lag to it, but it's a tad slower than the Skyrocket. The only reason I went with the Skyrocket over the Vivid was for the slightly longer battery life.

Maybe what you write is true.

The most interesting point I find about the whole Samsung ad is that it targets their current market. By bashing consumers that like Apple products, I doubt they will convert anyone using Apple products.

So what was the point of the ad?

How is it 'bashing'....its called a joke, its poking fun at Apple users. Just like Apple poked fun at MS users with Mac & PC.

I was one of those people that waited in line to get the iPhone 4 when it first came out, did not feel offended by the ad at all, like I mentioned, people are just to sensitive and insecure.

And there is no way to convince the true loyals to buy someone other than the iPhone, it was not really targeted to them. If that was really their point, then that's just stupid.

Lemme guess? Good job, you linked the only two articles outside the Apple realm that bashes the commercial, right? Is that what's coming next?

Redmond Pie, the greatest source to get expert opinion on TV commercial.

FaceTime Ripoff

Apple ads are the best because they show the actual product working, not some people dancing saying how "cool" it is.

The only thing I saw in this ad is a stylus (seriously?) and a FaceTime rip-off.

No wonder apple keeps suing samsung, if this isn't a ripoff of apples FaceTime chat i don't know what is.

I will admit that the ad did have a very big atmosphere to it with people busting out of lines, people firing out of cannons and everyone singing down a crowded street :D Hard to deny the entertainment factor, even if I don't necessarily agree with the premise itself lol

I agree with ya there. 90% of the commercial was fluff and very little was actually about the Galaxy Note. With that many eyeballs watching, and the amount of airtime Sammy purchased, a nicely done commercial showcasing the products and what it can do surely would have made more sense.

Android doesn't have Facetime or any equiv. And Samsung doesn't have its own App.

In other words - if you have a "beef" with someone copying Facetime from Apple- go seek out the App developer for whatever App that was.

Samsung and Google had nothing to do with it other than featuring it. In a relatively poor commercial.

Gizmodo, paid by Apple, right? Like I said, this ad is the laughingstock of the internet and people here defend it...strange.

Clearly the person who wrote that article is an idot, as his main criticism is the stylus. They're not laughing, it feels more like anger because SJ disagrees.

Just admit it, your opinions are biased.

PS. Find something constructive instead of idiotic

1. Is not "Samsung facetime", nop, is not G+ hangout, is a 3rd party app
2. Ripp off? Yap, before facetime, there weren't phone video calls like that

I wouldn't change it at all. Its not the Average person who sits in line for a phone.

Its the Cult followers who enjoy the whole experience and will do anything to be one of the lucky ones to get it first. :)

Not quite true though, is it?

I waited in line a couple of hours for the 4S, but I certainly wouldn't "do anything" to get it early. Waiting in line is just about the extent of it, tbh... and I only did that because generally it's a bit of a laugh, and doesn't really negatively impact my life in any way.

As I said earlier, I just cannot fathom the thinking behind pointing out that your competitor has a product so desirable that people WILL queue up outside stores to get their hands on it.

Samsung phones, on the other hand, you can walk into any phone shop on release day and buy one no problem.

Why would Samsung want to emphasise that disparity in desirability? Surely they're doing Apple's job for them??

For the record I would have no problem with them poking fun at Apple, or Apple fans if:

1) it made sense, and was likely to make ANYONE shift from Apple to Samsung
2) it was funny

Sadly, this ad accomplished neither.

As far as I know, Apple did not invent video chat on a cell phone. It's been done by Nokia in the past, even before Apple made phones.

Apple made it popular, but they did not come up with the idea.

Of course my opinions are biased. The commercial sucked, most of the media thought it sucked, and twitter users thought it sucked enough for it to become a trending topic worldwide last night.

You on the other hand:

"You found the only one article that says it sucked"
"Oh yeah? Well the second article you found is from someone who shouldn't be judging TV commercials!"
"Oh yeah?? Well the third article you found was written by an idiot"

But your opinions are not biased, right?

I have always been a windows user. I’m a software developer and did most of it in .Net (Microsoft) and lately Java.
I picked up the second gen ipod touch about one year before my iphone. I got the touch because I’m a gamer and I watched a lot of videos on it. The touch screen sucks for games. I purchased an iphone 3Gs and loved it. Last year I picked up a Sony Ericson Xperia Play because I’m a gamer. I could not get use to the OS on that phone. I used it for 6 months then went back to my iphone when iOS 5 came out. I stood in line for the iPad 2 for 14 hours and I had a great time doing it also. We had a lot of fun and the time went buy fast. I got the ipad to surf the net and watch movies. There are times I wish I had a stylus on the ipad. Not for everything but for doing any sketching and drawing. Last week I picked up a Macbook pro. It is very expensive but I got it to develop for the iOS. I am still learning the Lion OS but I love it so far. I tried the OS once before on those coloured iMac a while back and didn’t like it then. It has come a long way. I still have a use for windows so I will use it in a VM and on my main desktop. By the way I hate windows 7, it sucks bad. It’s vista with the nagging turned off. I had the same problems in 7 as I had in vista. Try copying files to two drives not the C at one time and try cancelling one of the copies. It will lock up bad. Explorer crashes all the time. I wish they would have kept XP rather than rebuilding the OS and messing it up. Just like windows Me it was crap too.
I like apples products but I’m not a fanboy. Although I’m getting closer with every apple product I buy.
I didn't find the ad funny. It didn't hurt my feelings either.

Ok tell me, how am I biased, am I a Samsung lover? The last samsung product I have owned was a Yepp before the iPods came out.

Am I an apple hater? Not at all. How am I biased?

You say the media critisizes the commercial, please tell me which one? Gizmodo is a blog and Redmond Pie is a ressource site.

Find me something credible, not articles written by basement bloggers.

I saw the commercial and immediately recognized the product as garbageware.

I'm not an apple fanboy and if apple starts pumping out garbage, I'll jump ship fast! I want the best device, the best computer, the best phone and I want it to work; no freezes, no hangs and no problems.

I can't believe Samsung thinks a stylus is a selling point. My kids have a Nintendo DS each and they always loose their stylus, I think they are using a cap to a ballpoint pen now. I would NEVER buy any tablet, phone etc. that uses a stylus that you can loose and I don't want a stylus on a dummy cord. I like using my fingers. I don't think Steve Jobs had ALL the answers but he was dead on with his hatred of the stylus!

Samsung's new tablet/phone device is dead in the water!

You like using your fingers? Then you use them, Samsung is not forcing you to use the Stylus, your logic is flawed.

You know that the stylus is not mandatory, don't you?

Don't bother posting these articles, his biased eyes are meant to cover anything that would prove his arguments contrary.

I am not saying the ad was good. But for many people - being able to walk into a store and have an item available is definitely a plus. Both for planned AND impulse buys. Are you saying it's better to walk into a store and be told none are available and that everyone would LIKE that?

Bottom line - if the decision you've made is done on research, etc - most, if not all, would just wait. That's not necc a positive though. For those that are on the fence or don't have a preference - availability could mean everything.

They probably don't mind it being DOA since having people want your phone is something they make fun of.
