We have the Samsung Galaxy Note here at work. Have to say it is huge, too big. I have no interest in holding something that big up to my ear to make a phone call. And forget putting that thing in my pocket, what an uncomfortable situation that is. Just another Android flavor of the week. It does seem like new Android phones are being released weekly. How many flavors is it so far?

It's actually pretty sad that people will stand in a line for hours. Have they nothing better to do with their lives? :roll eyes:

You guys gotta get your lips away from Apple's posterior. *passes glue solvent*

Waiting in line to buy something you want seems like a better use of time than hanging out on forums for stuff you hate. That is a really crazy use of time

If you don't want to use it then slot the bloody thing back into its holder and use your finger.

It has a pressure sensitive, 720p capacitive touchscreen that works with a fine tipped pen. That is why it's a selling point.

If you want to talk about a lack of selling points then get this: Apple's main 4S image on their home page shows the 'crop photo' function. Really? Now that's a selling point to make fun of.

You make too much sense for these forums.

So you think that 1 slightly different Iphone each year is better than consumers having the ability to choose from many different phone manufacturer's various models?

Competition is what it is all about. It breeds innovation. We all benefit from it. I have a SG note on order, and am excited about it. If it is a dud, it goes back, but at least I'm open minded enough to not just assume that every Apple product is the best out there. Many were disappointed last Fall when the iPhone 4s wasn't larger than the iPhone 4.....How quickly we forget.

I like to wait in line for Apple products because I know there is some sucker out there that will pay extra money to have the product near release. By the looks of EBay and Amazon it seems like a lot of people are with me. Not sure if I would consider the people in line the cult of Mac people or just the people making some extra money. :D

Two hours of waiting in line for the iPad 2 made me 300 bucks. Don't know of many jobs I could have that pay that well.

Samsung can't stop showing its true colors. It must be some south Korean humor I don't understand.

Apple just innovates, does classy ad's, doesn't need to shine anything under a bad light in order the sell their products.

Whereas Samsung is so hell bent on insulting Apple fans. I mean can't just ONE of their phones carry its own weight with its better features, quality, UI or something without having to the the "my phone is better than yours" ads. Pathetic.

For people who like both samsung and apple it's bewildering, LOL

That's because you wear skinny jeans! :D

I went to phone-size.com which does a great job, it has the option to configure your display to get the best approximation of the sizes, added a Samsung Note, and hahaha, holy smokes, yeah, that's a little chunky.

Here's a direct link that should pass in the parameters of the iPhone4 and Note (plus a couple of other phones for reference):

Samsuck

If the thing was $50 I still wouldn't buy one. In fact I walk by ALL Samsung products now - I recently refused to buy a Samsung microwave - simply because I hold a grudge when companies insult me.

People tell me the note fits into pockets, but as an Infuse owner (added it to your comparison here, I can't imagine myself getting a 4.5" phone again, much less a bigger one. I can use it one handed using my thumb to hit screen elements, but I couldn't do it if the screen were any bigger (or if my hands were smaller).

I'm not a big fan of 3" screens either - too small for my tastes. I like the 4" size.

Device profile matters to some degree too. If the Infuse weren't so thin it'd be unusable.

pssst may want to check inside your current electronics, you may have to throw them all away :)

I take it you're either in Germany or UK since it doesn't come out here for nearly another 2 weeks. Otherwise FANBOY ALERT!!

I wouldn't change it at all. Its not the Average person who sits in line for a phone.

Its the Cult followers who enjoy the whole experience and will do anything to be one of the lucky ones to get it first. :)

The folks who wait overnight are the "cult", but I'm just saying that they don't drive 37M units in sales in a single quarter -- they simply help drive the buzz that gets others excited enough to order online or buy later.

I know some average folks who were so ready to upgrade their 28-month-old iPhone 3GS that they reserved online within the weeks after release and then went down to Apple store to pick it up (which required a line).

Personally, as long as Apple offers online ordering with release-day (or near-release-day) delivery, I will never stand in line for an Apple product. It might be fun to do for the experience of it, but it's too easy to order from home and have them bring it to me.

Now that's just ridiculous.

I think it's pretty obvious that no Samsung phone gets lines like that across the hundreds of stores combined...now we're arguing that?

Perhaps no lines but all the AT&T stores in my area were sold out of the Galaxy SII upon release.

Just keep in mind..... when a cult grows to the size where you are selling 50% of the smartphones sold in a quarter to the tune of 37M units, that the "cult" becomes the general population. So I would change "cult following" to "customer satisfaction".

Or it could be that Apple is the fashionable, "flavor of the month." If you look at how quickly Apple rose from the ashes in the late 1990s, or looked at how quickly Blackberry/RIM or Nokia fell from favor, or how quickly Samsung became one of the world's biggest cell phone sellers... you'll know that customers are fickle and unpredictable.

Also, I love how everybody is putting down the Note because of the stylus... but if you read articles about the Note, the main talking point about the phone is the stylus!

I hope you don't have any Apple products, because there are Samsung components in there.

Indeed. My father has a 4S after switching from a Bold 2 & Torch (work made him do it; WP7 was not certified, no BES plugin on the exchange server, iPhone was the corporate choice). He enjoys it, but laments his reduced productivity (and, as a heavy phone & bluetooth user, he wishes he didn't have to charge his phone multiple times a day).

He's used to the blackberry. He's used to a physical keyboard (he's adjusting, albeit slowly). He's used to one way of doing things. And that's one of the reasons why the patent war in the smartphone world is so bitter. It's a booming market and a lot of people getting smartphones are getting their first. A lot of people stick with what they know, so being the first smartphone experience for someone is critical.

Absolutely the point. Really, ultimately it's what the end user is about. They will not know the difference from one or the other when one starts something if they are very conscious of what they need to use it for. It's a tool, nothing more. Take away the brand, what do you have? It's really what the company in their own genius ways to know how to think about the end user. And not about what ego a company needs to be. More power to them that they are making tons of money in the mean time, but important thing is, they keep their consistencies and quality product assurances that work WITH consumers' life how ever they feel fit. Who cares what company is the best, it's how best is it working for you with your life? Happy or not?

At work we happen to get preproduction versions of all the latest Android and Windows phones all the time. We need them as we do handsfree code and test against all the latest phones. Please stop being so dramatic.

I gotta say that I have many Apple products, and although I thought the commercial was less than informative, I was not at all offended.

And without Samsung parts, is it possible Apple wouldn't be as successful in selling so many devices?

If the iPhone comes out this Fall with a 4" screen, it is only because the public is demanding a bigger screen, and the competitors are giving it to them.

Since when did Steve Jobs get to decide on what everyone wants? We all can think for ourselves.

I totally agree. I'm not by any means a loyalist to either company. I switched from the iPhone 4 to the Galaxy S2 Skyrocket because I wanted a larger screen. Then, shortly after, I got rid of my Windows laptop and got a MacBook Pro.

It's near impossible to be "loyal" to one single brand, haha.
