Interestingly I saw a lot of white iPhones in the hands of Giants players when the Lombardi trophy was being presented. Can you imagine if they needed styluses too?

No I can't, thing wouldn't be different with the Note. Stylus is optional, get it and understand it.

So THAT was what that commercial advertisement was all about!

Great Super Bowl - the outcome was unknown until the final minute. :D

What's up with all the there instead of their, threw instead of through, et cetera? Pitiful state of education in today's world.

...Wow, I've got no preference in the mobile wars, may the best phone win, but Samsung is falling prey to the same thing they've been making fun of (barrage of new products), the fact that the "Next big thing is already here...again!" is their slogan is insane, given that's what they've had their sites on in their ads. (unless I'm missing something?)

Won't work. I use a stylus for certain things on the iPad. For highlighting text in doc's it's a must. :)

Be careful about your choice of music

Hmmm the choice of the Darkness was not a good idea! I could liken the darkness poor attempt to imitate queen and their short lived fame to Samsungs attempt to imitate Apple in an attempt to be the next cool thing! A stylus I was not aware we were in the 90s! Next they'll tell us it runs Windows mobile 1.0 and has Netscape as its browser. Ohhh I cannot wait to get one, if only I find someone who was solo backward looking as to buy my already out of date iPhone 4s and ipad2. ;)

For those Samsung people that maybe reading, I was being sarcastic I would rather chop off my inex finger. Oh maybe that would be why I would need the stylus then! I get it .

You would rather chop off your index finger over getting a phone?

I think you need some help.

I agree - since Apple supports IOS 4 on every Iphone ever made. Oh, wait.

Let's think.... how old was the iPhone 3G when iOS 4 released? .... hmmmmm.... oh yeah, 24 months old.

Wait! it still got the iOS 4 update, didn't it? Wow, I'm right. It was a limited update, but at least they gave something to owners of 2-year-old phones.

And let's look at iOS 5.... The iPhone 3GS is now 32 months old and running the latest version iOS. That's pretty amazing I think. Not to mention that iPhone 3GS is actually FASTER with iOS 5 than with iOS 4.

How old is the Samsung Galaxy S? It came out in mid 2010, making it 18 months old. Wasn't this Samsung's most popular Android phone? And they still are not updating it to even a limited version of ICS? It seems to me that ICS is more efficient than Gingerbread on the hardware because it actually uses hardware accelerated graphics. So why not give the upgrade? I know?!?!?! It's because they did not make enough money on the Galaxy S to justify the work. They need people to buy new phones in order to keep making money. Updating old phones is not in their interests.

See what I just did there?

Just remember, when you want to take a shot, aim for a weak spot. Support of old hardware with OS updates is one of Apple's strong suits. You should have talked about how Apple does not let you side-load apps or customize the home screen or run live wallpaper. Those are things Apple phones actually do NOT do. But what they do well is stay current with recent software updates providing the phone is not more than two (and now three) years old.

I know what you mean here. But I just want to add for further "education" that there's a difference (many) between Apple and Samsung in the regard though. Apple makes their own OS - they have no approval process other than internal. When Google releases a new OS - it has to then be skinned/adapted by Samsung and then also approved by the carrier. It simply takes longer. And that's why they have less of an idea of time frames or which devices it makes the most sense to "upgrade." I'm not defending it. Just stating that it's apples to oranges.

I just got an Android phone - and one of the many things I do love about it (right off the bat) is that when I take a picture - I can immediately rename it in the phone. No longer do I sent images that wind up as attachments "photo 1, photo 2, photo 3" etc. Something that annoyed the @#$% out of me on the iPhone. Perhaps minor - but it's one nice feature already I'm enjoying.

Lame

Samsung is always talking about how they want to give people something else to become 'obsessed with.'

Ironically enough they are also completely incapable of actually designing their own product with their own image of what the device should do and what it should look like. Sounds identical to Microsoft, always catching up with their designs to match whatever Apple has already released. I don't see any originality in their designs. Ok so it may now have a stylus, maybe some cool new twist to how an app works or looks, but in its core, it's all modeled after Apple.

You want to pull people away from Apple? Stop mirroring their designs and create something new and unique.

Fail

Well, the ad is a failure, because even some of the tech-savvy folk on this blog think that the device needs a stylus. Imagine what millions of others must think.

They also insult the millions of iPhone users who don't wait in line, and don't appreciate being stereotyped as mindless lemming fanboys. If I were in the market for a smartphone, that ad would turn me off big time.

I think the Samsung ads were funny. People waiting in line for a phone with minor changes. A talking phone that's wrong half the time and it's like sharks on a feeding frenzy. The 4S is a nice phone, but not much different than the 4.

How does it really insult those that don't wait in line? And if you're insulted by it (enough to be turned off) then a) you were never really open to a new manufacturer and b) you might be a little too sensitive.

People who take commercials like this so seriously as to be "offended" - in my opinion - need to take a deep breath and remember it's just a phone. Samsung didn't make fun of cancer, suicide, alcoholism, aids, abortion, gays, or any other things that would sincerely be offensive worthy. It's. a. Phone.

Get the hell off this site...

Can you paint better with a finger? no. You can paint better with an easel and a paintbrush. You can point better with your finger. I'm bashing it because it adds a 1990s technology that its competitors know no one cares about. Apple, Motorola, LG, Nokia, and even Samsung have made billions selling phones by abandoning the stylus. The idea that now Samsung thinks it's a new feature is ludicrous. They market a pen which you can lose and make no mention of Wacom technology. We all laugh because it's evident that no one wants a stylus, no matter what silly Japanese niche technology is employed to run it.

How hard is it to understand that Note has pressure sensitive stylus... I've tried it and it feels like a small version of Wacom Cintiq. I would love that on my iPad... It would be like getting Wacom Cintiq and tablet built in one. Oooh, and then some app to tether that pressure sensitive iPad to Photoshop and I'm in heaven OMG OMG I'm coming!!!!

Seriously, Samsung note is very nice if you like that big screen. Personally I find it too big for my use but then again its just me. The pressure sensitive stylus is awesome feature that Apple needs to incorporate to iPad 3. Its good to remember that Note works perfectly with just a finger. However, when it comes down to drawing, painting, photo retouching, hand writing etc. the pressure sensitive stylus can't be beaten.

I agree that the ad failed to emphasize using both methods.

However, I don't think that anyone who therefore thought it was only pen based would be considered "tech savvy".

The HTC Flyer came out last year with active pen input as an option. Tech savvy people knew about it.

Heck, there's even an active pen for the iPad with an interface that plugs into the connector port.

The ability to use multiple input methods is the ultimate future of handheld companion devices. Voice, touch, pen, brush, hand air gestures, you name it, even facial expressions.

This thread's number of comments... IT'S OVER 9000 DIVIDED BY 10!

On topic: This advert is meh. It certainly won't convince me to buy a Note, nor do I think that was what this ad was intended to do.

Well, I have owned every single iPhone generation ever created (actually I had two from first gen) and I'm not feeling one bit insulted. Actually, I find the Note ad very funny. Then again I find the Kool-Aid drinking Apple fanboys very funny too... (seriously, if one has a habit of queuing Apple products then that person is asking to be ridiculed).

Regarding Note's pressure sensitive stylus, its awesome and I hope the future iPad 3 will have one too.

The use of a Wacom digitizer for phone and stylus IS something new.

If you say so. I remember having a Palm Pilot years ago and it had a stylus (I hated my Palm Pilot). Honestly, this just looks like an old palm pilot merged with a tablet/phone hybrid.

I hope I'm wrong, I hope this thing kicks butt...good for Samsung I guess.

Sounds like your already sold on the Samsung phone/tablet. Once you get it (or try it out) come back here and tell us all about it!

I had a laugh...

I saw the guy whip out a stylus, and in my head I was saying... "1999 called, and they want their phone back."

Your Palm wasn't pressure sensitive. It makes a huge difference. Its kind of like useful / not useful difference.

The palm didn't have over 200 pressure points with their stylus. Completely different.

Just like people who want to argue that Siri is something that has never been done before....
