One of the many perks of being your own boss. No need to get approval for equipment purchases from dilbert bosses. ;)

There is a downside - I have to buy a new one every year! I don't upgrade my workstation every time Intel poops out a new chip, or my phone every time Samsung sneezes (I use Android), but I'm pretty much forced into upgrading my iDevices every time Apple breaks wind, just so I can properly support the latest hardware. Back in the day Apple had discounts for developer hardware. Those days are long over. :(

In a few weeks Apple will be having the last laugh with the release of iPad 3 (and iPhone 5 to follow soon) thus raising the bar further out of reach from the likes of Samsung and the Copy Cats. :apple:
Funny. iTards said the same thing last year when ipad 2 was released.

The cycle continues...

:D

Sad

I find it terribly sad that companies (not just Samsung) feel the need to mock and bash their competitors.

Like a politician ridiculing his opponent, rather than talk of his own strengths and policy, it suggests something about them. Mainly, that they have nothing 'to bring to the table.'

I know, I know...it almost...no, it does feel lame to keep pointing this out...

Terribly sad, Tom, really....

I've lost more styluses (stylii?) than I have cases (as I'm sure most will attest), so that's just BS pulled out of your ass to support your theory.

1) No need for the insults, reported

2) You may be a careless slob but that doesn't mean everyone else is

3) I've had more than 10 WM-based resistive touchscreen PDAs as well as several DS iterations and I have not lost one stylus

As soon as software is written FOR the stylus, you NEED the stylus.

Actually, that is not true. I can draw with the S Memo app with my finger. It's just inaccurate and messy, much like drawing on an iPad or iPhone with just my finger.

And even if your statement were true- why would you even want to use a stylus exclusive application with your finger? What's stopping you from using another, finger-friendly application?

Pathetic.

And if you're talking about third party development, there are already several apps out with support for the S-Pen and they work with both the stylus and your finger. What's your next argument?

Wake up and smell the coffee.

A suggestion for yourself?

Yeah, yeah, I know; PC Guy vs Mac Guy. But, in the "Get a Mac" campaign the capabilities and attributes of Mac and PC were compared. Unlike this saga, which just seeks to bash the popularity of Apple, without Samsung talking of the capabilities and attributes of the Galaxy Note. (Then again, a stylus and handwriting recognition are hardly groundbreaking.)

So when is Apple Ditching Samsung for parts etc. I personally wouldn't want to deal with a company that openly mocks its potentially largest customer.

Seems very odd.

Lots of different layers of the companies interacting, though. It would be strange (and possibly anticompetitive) if Samsung had to be nice about Apple products because they manufactured components for them.

Isn't a bit like calling your mate's mum a fat whore but still trying to be friends with him?

Meanwhile Apple is suing Samsung and also getting their products embargoed. Yet Samsung is still doing business with Apple.

Business is Business. Samsung's commercial won't really affect Apple's bottom line. Apple's lawsuits/etc can/will/has.

Apple's not terminating anything.

Apple is just protecting itself. Samsung seem to be attacking.

Its not the same.

IDK, any comparisons those ads made were, as I recall, rather vague and superficial...basically, Window(Vista) sucks; Macs are better...being a "PC" is lame; being a "Mac" is hip and cool...those ads didn't seem to have much substance beyond those mocking and bashing points....

As a "PC" myself I actually found those "Get a Mac" ads to be quite clever and humorous...

Being cool and hip may not be the reason most people own Apple produces...but I think there is some truth in that for those who line up to buy them on launch day...yes, I have been in those lines myself...

What's ironic is people who DON'T wait in line for products like that consider those who do decidedly uncool and unhip. (So unhip it's a wonder their bums don't fall off).

As someone who's been a nerd/geek all my life, I don't really "get" the concept of being cool anyway, so it's all a matter of perspective I guess. I never really feel the need to get something just because my friends/peers have one. In that sense, I think the Samsung ads have a kernel of truth.

Jeez, this is an ad for Samsung fans only. I mean my friend bought that Note and I am pretty sure he was smiling watching this ad. I was like o_O
But anyway, how come so many companies see Apple is so awesome in marketing their products but still can't find the guys who will THINK DIFFERENT and make something really outstanding?

Even my younger brother gets that, and Samsung doesn't?

Next time just say "im an apple fanboy" instead of this long winded reply making excuses for it. You aren't fooling anyone and its less effort on your part.

I'm an Apple Fan. And a boy. Maybe that makes me a fanboy.

So If you have a head. And you also have a ..., maybe that makes you a

you know what, never mind.

I must have really struck a nerve for you to be bothered enough by it to post a reply over 1 month later. Odd that you concluded with nevermind but you clearly do mind.

Woot did their own version of a Samsung vs iPad thing

A couple of days ago, Woot was selling the Samsung Tab 10.1.

They brought up the iPad event and managed to poke fun at both Samsung and Apple fans at the same time :)

=== WOOT AD FOR SAMSUNG TAB ===

Not everyone gets to be Apple.

If a press conference happens in the woods and no one hears it, does it happen?

We’re not sure what happened, but we scheduled a press conference last Wednesday to announce we’d be selling these refurbished Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1” Tablets bundled with an SD Card Reader. We spared no expense, too! We set out a punch bowl, some Dixie cups, and bought those super-over-sweetened sugar cookies from the grocery store that come with like a half inch of frosting on top.

So imagine our surprise when no one showed up because they were busy beating down the door to hear something about some silly tablet thing they’re trying to get off the ground. Ridiculous.

Who wouldn’t be excited about a tablet with a Dual-Core 1GHz processor and Android 3.1 Honeycomb Operating System? Why would people go listen to some speech about an app store or some nonsense when they could hear all about this ultra-lightweight device with access to Media Hub and Social Hub and wirelessly stream movies, music, and photos?

And good luck personalizing that Apple thing, should you fall for the buzz and plunk down the cash. Sure, the Galaxy Tab has a proprietary connector and can’t take microUSB or microSD cards, but you’ve got an SD Card Reader for that stuff! And at least Android devices will let you, y’know, play with ‘em. Stuff’s not all locked down and forbidden.

But no, no one wants to talk about that. They want to talk about clouds and pixels and all the sweet new snowboarding videos they’re planning to shoot with their new Apple device even though they’ve never been snowboarding before. Weirdos.

Those phones had front facing cameras for 3g calls only. Android din't support front facing cameras untill version 2.3 (Gingerbread) in 2011.

Get your facts right... ;)
I think it is you that needs to get your facts straight.
While Android didn't natively support the front facing camera, many vendors wrote their own kernel components to support them.
Another win for an open source kernel. ;)
Motorola for example, provided two camera support for their MotoBlur Froyo (2.2) devices that had both front and rear cameras.
The Atrix 4G and the Photon shipped with a fully functional front camera support that could be used for anything from 3G calls (Quik), Google Talk video chat or simply taking a picture.
Both of these devices shipped with Froyo, they didn't get Gingerbread for nearly 6 months after they were released.

Video calling: Android does not support native video calling, but some handsets have a customized version of the operating system that supports it, either via the UMTS network (like the Samsung Galaxy S) or over IP. Video calling through Google Talk is available in Android 2.3.4 and later. Gingerbread allows Nexus S to place Internet calls with a SIP account. This allows for enhanced VoIP dialing to other SIP accounts and even phone numbers. Skype 2.1 offers video calling in Android 2.3, including front camera support.

The TOPIC of our conversation was not about patched or modded phones. Nor single function features. The truth is that Apple fully supported the front facing camera when the iphone 4 came out back in 2010. Android had nothing of the kind. Now if you wanna argue about who made the first camera phone with wifi connectivity then it's a Symbian based Nokia from 7-8 years ago.

So As i said earlier: GET YOUR FACTS RIGHT!!!!!

Vendor provided features are not patched or modded features.
Android only provides an OS foundation with basic hardware support and the vendor adds the vendor specific hardware layer to it. That has how Android has been from day one. It's hardware agnostic.

Motorola provided more than a single function feature. They provided the kernel code that allowed the rest of the OS to take advantage of the additional hardware. So any app that wanted to use the front camera could do so.
The fact that Google decided to incorporate a feature into the OS at a later date is moot.
The Google Talk support was for application reference purposes... I'll substitute that for Quik, which was released nearly a full year earlier and actually works better.

Apple happens to play both roles as they are the hardware vendor and the OS developer. So it's literally an Apples to oranges comparison when it comes to hardware support on Android since Google leaves the hardware support up to the vendor.
