HAHAHA. The point was Samsung wasn't memtioned for a reason. Spend 3 million dollars on an ad that's not all that memorable to the general public.

You mean that it was not listed in the top 10 of 62 Super Bowl ads in a short excerpt from the Nielsen report.

You're making a leap, and MacDailyNews fabricated a headline which is an outright falsehood.

A next day poll doesn't tell whether a branding ad was successful - it's whether in 3 months or 6 months or a year someone is phone shopping, and takes a second look at the Samsung because they remember "somewhere" hearing something good about Samsung phones.

In fact, the very story that you linked says that:

"However, Super Bowl ads are arguably all winners: on average, they are 34 percent more memorable and 42 percent better liked than commercials that aired in January [2011]."

Go cry me a river. I doubt you even had an ounce of respect for Apple anyway.
sup apple defense keyboard warrior, I'm not the one bitching and moaning over some classic commercial, unlike some butthurt itard, especially like you.

:D:cool:

I couldn't help but laugh at that, your not that bad. And I guess Samsung is a pretty awesome company. So I guess I was being an itard, lol.

Samsung. Again.

Or a barista. :D

Baristas can be creative!

;)

Seriously, though - I thought that "dude - you're a barista" was the funniest line in the earlier Samsung ad.

In this ad, though the best "line" (since it's interrupted) is "Samsung. Again.". That's the whole point of the ad - and it's repeated at the end with a phone with a prominent Samsung logo and "Again" on the screen. That's branding.

It's also quite revealing that we talk about the "barista dude" in the superbowl commercial - but the word "barista" doesn't appear in the second ad. Even though the Samsung ads are "failures" according to the fans - the fans have watched them all and know the characters.

I think the advertising world has a name for that kind of recognition - and it's "genius". (In the real sense of the word "genius", not in the debased sense of Apple minimum wage bozos behind a counter with a "genius" sign above it.)

Samsung found that sweet spot in the ad rankings for the Super Bowl ads: Not good enough to stand out and be mentioned, and not bad enough to be ridiculed and wrote about. They didn't even get an honorable mention. Their ad was just noise between plays... noisy noise, but just noise, just the same.

So saying that you make idiotic assumptions makes me a Samsung fanboy?

Nope, calling a guys stupid when he is apologizing to you makes you an ass.

And to be clear; when I was responding to your post where you were talking up the Samsung Note, I was simply stating that as a consumer if I need someone to decipher the advertisement by detailing the technical specifications then clearly the commercial falls short of it's advertising goals. I never named you personally as a "Samsung Fanboy", you are the one who connected the dots and assumed I was referring to you.

I was actually attempting to make a generalized statement about my opinion about the commercial.

Another person responded stating that perhaps I'm the one who was dense and there was nothing wrong with the commercial. I laughed and agreed. Maybe it's me.

So again, I apologize if I offended you by calling you a Samsung Fanboy. It was never my intent to insult you in my post. If you were insulted or offended it was probably caused by my lack of clarity in my original post. I will endeavor to be more clear in my future posts.

Are you all retarded? Of course no one lines up for phones from Samsung. It's called availability, you know... That handy thing buying from the merchant of your choice and not directly from Apple so they can mark up their products?

Samsung Outsold Apple 8-to-5 in Smartphones... That's right, Samsung sold MORE phones then apple last year. It's another thing called selection. Samsung doesn't create one phone a year with small upgrades and then sells it 150% it's real market worth. Phone manufactures realize people want different screen sizes, different price points, different features reflecting those price points... Phone manufacturers realize not everyone are stupid enough to buy the same phone year after year. That's why Samsung sold more phones last year, it's why Samsung will sell more phones then Apple this year.

I will be using the stylus to create quick and efficient notes while you continue to tap keys like monkeys. This is 2012. Fingers for writing? What are we, in kindergarten?

I hear Apple is having a contest... See who can create the best finger painting. LOL.

Waiting in line because a company only sells it from there stores does NOT equal a good product. You make me laugh.

P.S. Most of you didn't like the commercial because it shows people having fun with their phones. They are shown being different. When was the last time someone used the word "Fun" and "different" with iPhones. Exactly.

Don't be afraid. Face it, the commercial scares you because you lost all sense of individualism when you decided to buy the same phone year after year after year and people expressing themselves makes you worry. Well don't, trust me. A few months from now Apple will release the iPhone 5 which will be identical to your current iPhone with the addition of a few small tweeks and happily charge you $700 for 16gig model (While the rest of the world have removable storage) and you can feel important again standing in line.

The rest of us will be having fun using our phones, getting the most out of them. You know, having that thing called "fun" that life is all about.

Loved the commercial. Love enjoying life. Try it.

You make a good point about having fun. All the iPhones are virtually the same! Ok, so the specs have improved and the software they run on has become more advanced, but it's becoming boring.

I'm going to stick my neck out and assume the iPhone 5 will have a larger screen, 12mp camera & poor battery life thanks to the energy zapping internals. Wow, I must get in line for that!

lol... Except the iPhone will most likely have the same 3.5 screen as the apps are native to that size. Unless apple want everyone to repurchase their apps to accommodate the new screen size. Wait... That sounds just like Apple. :)

Nope... iPhone 5 will have the 3.5 screen because Jobs said no one will ever need anything bigger. I believe he said "no one would want anything bigger than 3.5". What a true visionary. lol Fail. (No offense.)

Use a 4.6 device then use the iPhone. Damn. It's like using a kids toy after that. I hope people decide to choose the phone that fits their needs, and not buy an iPhone "just because". Ask any iPhone owner why they chose it over all the other phones... Answer... "uhh..." :)

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A406 Safari/7534.48.3)

I chose iPhone over other phones because of ios. I also do not want a bigger phone. Lighter yes but bigger no thanks.

The Galaxy Nexus has remov... Oh, wait.

I had an Epic 4G, on paper, so much better than the iPhone 4 that I'm typing this from. I got fed up with always having WiMax turned off because it would rinse battery life, apps that didn't feel as good, jerky UI (touchwiz is something that made me want to hang myself) and Samsung never a) giving timely updates and b) not opening the kernel to the community until it was too late.

People think Samsung aren't being lazy because they are releasing loads of different sized devices, but I see it as the mobile device equivalent of throwing a bunch of wet paper towels at a mirror and seeing which one sticks. I'm pretty sure Apple tested different screen sizes and found their sweet spot. Maybe they'll change the screen size in the next iteration, maybe they won't.

As for me, I'm happy with my iPhone 4 and no amount of The Darkness (although i will buy their single on itunes as they were a lot of fun back in '03) will change that for me.

No- iOS apps are native to the iPhone's resolution, not screen size. Screen size has nothing to do with it.

Some apps are calibrated for fingers to be a certain size, and also what about ruler apps?

My point still stands.

There are very few applications that would not simply not function on a larger screen with the same resolution. Sure the buttons might get a bit bigger, but it won't actually look any worse.

As for the ruler apps- do people actually use those? Not bashing you- just genuinely curious about the practicality of a 2.76" ruler and how people use them. I've tried a few scrolling ones and those resulted in horribly inaccurate results, and the thicker-than-1mm and non-transparent iPhone casing doesn't exactly lend itself to measuring tasks.

^^ and my statement is still completely accurate when it comes to that. you might need to repurchase a new ruler app but nobody is going to have to repurchase an equivalent for every single one of their apps when the resolution is the same.

Bigger phones like 4,3in? Too big for actual use on the go, to small for heavy usage in-door.

I see quite a few people around here saying this, but it makes me wonder if anyone has actually held a 4.3 inch phone. Or at least tried using one, instead of holding it up their face for three seconds, sneering with derision, and claiming it sucks compared to their iPhone.

The one Android phone I've had most access to is the HTC Evo. It has a 4.3 inch screen, and I find it fairly comfortable to hold. It's not the OLOL HUGE BRICK THAT WEIGHS A LIKE BILLION POUNDS THAT MY BEST FRIEND STEVE JOBS WOULD SO TOTALLY NOT APPROVE OF CUZ IT'S TOO BIG TO CARRY AROUND that people make it out to be. It's slightly larger. Still fits easily in your pocket. And yes, the larger screen does have some small advantages.

I mean you're all arguing over screen sizes for Gods sake. Is there anything more inane you could gripe about?

Wait... :looks at topic:

...guess there is.

Samsung ads? Just embarrassing move by Sam, nuff said.

Unless you're 1) a 7 year old, 2) a midget, 3) have abnormally small/deformed hands, then a 4.3" screen is most certainly not too big for your hands.

The Galaxy S II is 8 mm wider than the iPhone. If an iPhone 4 fits in your hand, a Galaxy S II will as well.

The screen is considerably larger than the iPhone's- if your statement is correct then the iPhone's screen is too small for actual use on the go and way way too small for usage in door (not sure what being in door has anything to do with it though).

On the go usage -> you need to constantly shift your vision from the screen to the world and back again -> larger fonts = easier to read when you have time to -> larger screen = better.

How people can argue that a 3.5" screen is the perfect size when they say that a 4.3" screen is 'too small' boggles my mind

I think it would be cool if there was a phone that used both a stylus and a finger interchangeably based on the user's choice. When I have gloves on, it would be nice to snap off a stylus and use the phone with warm fingers, or when I want more precision. When it's warm and/or I want to "fingerpaint" instead, I can use my oily finger. Best of both worlds. That would help sell me a new phone.

gos from a bunch of depressed people waiting in line to a guy getting shot out of a cannon seems legit. While on the other hand mac has thease amazing commericals that show a happy couple and stuff that is useful of the phone like siri! not a frikin pen:apple::apple:

Uhh... doesn't the Samsung Note do that?

BTW, another option is gloves with conductors that allow you to use smartphones. I think 180s and North Face make them.
