If they want a lot of people to actually use these things, they better figure out a way to get the price under $150-$200. Even then I'm not sure it's compelling and convenient (problem with all headset-based tech, especially wired) enough.

Definitely not clear there is a sustainable market at these price points - so far its looked awful, till Oculus went firesale ($199 or $299 or something) sales were dismal.

Microsoft would definitely want to be the OS for this though...but if their vendors can't make any money doing it they'll stop pretty quickly. Most people can't afford a high end video card price for a video card, let alone two of those (one for the video card to power this and one for the VR headset).

I don't see any mass appeal with this, it's still way too early, tech need to improve A LOT and got inside size of 3D glasses etc. And im not sure If it still would be interesting. Great fun for half an hour, but what after that?

Like the Pippin, iPod HiFi and Apple Watch, right?
It's highly unlikely Apple Watch is a money-loser. Sales are estimated at ~33M total, 15M in the last 12 months. Most likely on pace for well over $5B per year in revenue at this time, for most companies that would be an incredibly successful business all by itself.

Not even sure the HiFi lost money. It certainly didn't light the world on fire, but the development and production costs likely weren't outrageous either.

Pippen, well yeah, but come on, you're going back a long way there (20 years) to the dark days of Apple, lots of bad decisions back then by bad management and if I were Samsung, I certainly wouldn't want to be reassuring myself it's OK because Apple didn't sell many Pippens.

You don't need two GPUs, one is all you need. In fact no VR headset supports SLI / Crossfire, so two would be a total waste of time ( should you want to boost performance ).

An Nvidia GTX 1060 - less than $350 will run most games with suitable performance.

Apple Watch? Really? Lol, I see them on many wrists throughout the day. Hardly a failure.

I’m actually a bit surprised (why I don’t know) at just how many people sporting Apple Watches I see on an average day now.

I remember at launch I was the only person I encountered for a long time who actually had one. Now it seems to be every other person.

They are very common now and people who have them love them. There are just a lot of people here on Macrumors that made up their mind that it's a failure and are now having a difficult time admitting they were wrong....once again.

This isn't about money or being first. This is about changing the world. This is about putting a dent in the universe. Samsung and Microsoft actually innovating our future for the better. Every once in a while a revolutionary product comes along that changes everything. First Windows Phone. Then Samsung Galaxy phones. Then Galaxy tablets. Then the life-saving Samsung smartwatch, which is the best looking and best functioning watch ever. And now, VR via Samsung. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the future.

And thank you, Samsung. You have changed the world and all of our lives with your revolutionary products. While Apple is busy dodging taxes and stock manipulation by the deplorable and immoral Steve Jobs, Samsung is leading change. Thank you. I am crying as I type this because I cannot wait for this new VR headset because I know it's going to change man-machine interfaces forever. First it was GUI by Xerox. Then Windows with its legendary and award-winning design. Then the Zune with its iconic design that was copied by everyone. Then the Surface line which has Microsoft once again pushed the limits of computer design and technology. And now Samsung and Microsoft joining forces to change the entire industry.

Thank you, Samsung. No other company can interplay hardware and software like you. Thank you.

You just gotta love the passive aggressive responses you get on these tech forums. All you have to do is mention how one company is producing a terrible product and you'll get a response back from someone saying the same thing about said company's rival. So sad.

Cool let's just ignore the world we are in and be more antisocial
Do you watch tv alone? Play video games alone? If so you are doing no more with the outside world than with a MR/VR headset.

All things in moderation.

You serious? Apple Watch is not a traditional watch like a Rolex?? How can you compare the two type products? Sorry but a traditional watches holds more value than a 300 digital toy like the apple watch. Give someone an Apple Watch and lets see the value of it in 100 years.

This is all good and true but doesn’t change the fact that the Apple Watch is a commercial success and a massively profitable watch business.
