It's valid to have your own opinion that the XR is over priced.... But the reality will be whether or not consumers as a whole buy it. And so far, whilst below expectations, it's selling VERY WELL. Market saturation is why the targets were missed... not the XR being less appealing. Even at £799, it's a phenomenal value.

Correct video

As far as most users are concerned, these two devices are so damn close in load time performances and basic usage that the whole CPU debate is pretty moot for now

9 million less phones in 1 qtr is a hard number to ignore.

now we don't know if that's all cause of price, but to ignore the price as a factor and ignore that price elasticity is a real thing is just disingenuous at best.

the question now is what will Apple's response be. are they content with selling less devices and shrinking market share in return for higher Ask price or do they bring their devices more in line with the market range for phones of those feature sets?

10e costs £669 with 128GB and fast charging.

Xr costs £799 with 128 GB plus £69(?) to add fast charging

10e looks so good even long term pro Apple users on this forum are looking into it :)

I'd also like to add, in terms of beneficial features... the fact the XR will be updated beyond a few months of it's debut (more than a few years, actually) is more useful to more people around the world. Making the price even better value for money..
This phone will receive the newest Android versions for 2 years, after that it'll keep receiving security updates monthly, the S6 from 2015 just got one last week. Keep in mind the S10E already does more than the XR or any future iOS update ever will. Where's the value now? Inside the box a 5W charger from 2007? That's the value?

Which apps?
How much faster at opening the camera?
How did you assess scrolling?

I'll happily agree if you can prove it makes an everyday difference...

There's a huge gap between graphics performance. You care less about 0,1 seconds faster? Yet, these these things you list above - if they're faster at all, I doubt it - would be that much faster....

My point is ... when you guys b*tch about the XR screen being under 1080p.. it's also unnoticeable day to day.

OLED vs. LCD alone is already a huge difference, let alone the resolution difference. Day-to-day usage, the screen, design/feel, and cameras on the S10e will make more of a difference than the XR's CPU ever will.

It's funny on the Mac side everyone argues about how Windows' superior specs don't matter and then on the iPhone side it's the complete opposite.

The same people who pooh-poohed products such as the Apple Watch and Airpods?

For all their criticism, I am surprised they haven’t already jumped shipped to android.

And since you brought up AirPods, YouTube reviews are preferring the Galaxy Buds. Especially sound quality.
Edit: And fit :)

Just released galaxy buds are slightly beating out a 2-year old product which is scheduled to be refreshed later this year. Excuse me while I panic and go sell my non-existent Apple stock, because Apple is so clearly doomed here.

Plus I can still think of numerous ways the Airpods are better. Such as the ability to fit inside your jeans coin pocket. Fit is subjective (my Airpods have no issues staying in my ear). Appearance as well (I can also say the galaxy buds look like a pair of ear plugs).

Given all the Airpods memes we are floating around, I think we can say that Airpods have gone viral. As such, I don’t see the galaxy buds taking off, for the simple reason that they are not Airpods, which is clearly the product that people want right now.

Samsung could not have chosen a worst time to release their galaxy buds. But I guess since they are practically giving them away, they don’t have to worry about actually selling them.

Giving the galaxy buds away is a smart move by Samsung, they probably cost next to nothing to manufacture and it adds an extra incentive to pick up a s10, with the mobile phone market stagnating there needs to be value for money.

One of the the most amusing comments I have seen for a while.
Galaxy Buds look like earplugs. Like that is an issue :)
And fit is very definately not subjective. For many people, quite a sizeable percentage, AirPods do not fit properly in their ears and will fall out easily.
Because Samsung provide several sizes of fitments, the Buds will remain secure in nearly everyones ears.
But then, because they fit in your ears there is not an issue.

Where is your evidence that Airpods are not fitting in the ears of a sizeable percentage of users, and what is that percentage even?

Second, isn’t it funny that appearance suddenly isn’t an issue for galaxy buds, but was cited as one of the key reasons for not getting Airpods (because they supposedly look dumb)? Just because some people here say they are / aren’t the case.

I swear - this forum just loves to trump up criticism against Apple products sometimes just for the sake of criticism. It was the case with Touch ID (people are going to cut off my fingers to get into my phone!), then Face ID (crooks can make a 3D model to unlock my device) and Airpods (they look like toothbrushes and drop out so easily, I can probably get them for free by picking up the Airpods lost by others).

What I am saying is that the recent surge in popularity of Airpods isn’t just some fad. People are discovering that they love the Airpods, and this is despite the numerous criticisms levelled at them.

We are witnessing the early stages of the wearables era.

AirPods do a superb job of demonstrating Apple’s competitive advantages with wearables, a product category that will come to define Apple for decades, because Apple has both the ecosystem and the design / fashion expertise. Meanwhile, the Samsung buds are reduced to being a free accessory to prop up sales of Samsung phones.

It’s clear which company has the leading vision in this regard, and which doesn’t.

Where is your evidence that AirPods fit people without issue? Because they fit you?
Of five videos I saw, two of the reviewers stated AirPods didn't fit properly in their ears and would fall out. Lots of people on these forums say the same thing. They tried them and returned them. One would have to be extremely naive to think that hard, unyielding plastic will fit well in the greater majority of ears, which all vary significantly.

To state that the Buds look like earplugs is a compliment to their design , as most earplugs are quite discrete. As are in ear monitors worn by performers. Designed to be discrete. One doesn't want bits of plastic dangling from ones ears. One doesn't want people gaze drawn to one's ears. That was a point mentioned by the video reviewers as well. I remember showing a picture of someone wearing AirPods to people at the time they were released , and everyone without exception thought they looked stupid.

Which is why I say it is the critics are becoming increasingly out of touch, not Apple.

Airpods have seen a spike in interest (according to google trends, especially around Black Friday last year), and I would attribute the popularity of AirPods to a variety of factors.

1) It is highly visible, precisely because it hangs of out of people’s ears. This makes it difficult to miss. Free marketing for Apple. It’s become part of culture itself.

2) Social signalling - wearing airpods signals that you likely have an iphone, and are willing to pay $160 for a pair despite EarPods already being bundled with your iphone.

People often point to tech as the main reason why Apple will supposedly fail in a certain product category. They could not be more wrong, for the simple reason that Apple sells you an experience, not technology in a vacuum.

People want to wear airpods, and more importantly, want to be seen wearing it. They are cool (for the moment at least). They have the “it” factor. This is a phenomenon that is going to be very difficult for other companies to recreate, regardless of whatever technological improvements those products may have.

So it’s not that these reviewers’ points aren’t valid, but that they still only tell one side of the story, and it ultimately isn’t going to matter in the bigger scheme of things.

Their are plenty of cheap AirPod clones which people can hang on their ears to show [fake] status. I would expect that people who are ready to pay $100+ for their earbuds on average pay attention to actual tech.

You are saying critics stating that Airpods dont fit well in their ears are out of touch. Seriously?

Also, your comment about Airpods being cool - for the moment at least, is quite interesting.
There's nothing more flock-like than fashion victims. And they most certainly will move on :)

1) Only time i've seen people comment is to ask what that ridiculous thing is hanging out of someones ears.
2) That's just sad.

I don’t think it’s good or bad or sad. It just is, and it would be remiss to not address it just because it doesn’t have anything to do with tech directly.

Then again, Apple is a design company, not a tech company. When it comes to a product as personal and intimate as wearables, you have to consider the fashion aspect, and Apple has a unique advantage in this area as they are one of the very few companies (if not the only company) who gets both design and technology.

If you want to discuss the merits of a product based solely on its technical spec sheet, then you will miss the point every single time, because Apple has demonstrated time and time again that the experience afforded by their products consist of intangibles which cannot be accurately distilled and quantified using numerical values on a spec list.

Airpods are selling. I am not saying that airpods fit everyone perfectly, but there are clearly enough people who have no issues wearing and using these AirPods to make the product successful.

You keep saying that I shouldn’t use myself as an example just because I can wear airpods, because I may not represent the majority of users. In the same vein, isn’t it a stretch to claim that just because AirPods don’t fit the one or two people reviewing them, that means that it doesn’t fit the majority of users out there?

And I agree that people will eventually move on. Just like the iPod users eventually moved on to the iphone, and we all know how that went.

Damn even everythingapplepro from YouTube is switching to the new S10 plus.... he is... or was one of Apples biggest fanboys and gets downright giddy with Apple upcoming releases. Or used to at least. He hasn’t been able to hide his disappointment in the last few videos

Samsung exhausted their supply of the bonus pods they are offering with s10 and s10+ orders. They are now offering a $130 credit to Samsung.com and customers can order from there when they get them in stock.

I don’t want a full size s10. But I’d happily take free pods of Samsung’s hands.

I would love to try Apple’s pods. But I use my stuff in the gym and probably can’t justify the purchase if they won’t stay in place. Then again, I haven’t found a soft pair of earplug style pods that are comfortable yet.

Anyone who can put their bias aside can realise the S10 is a cracking phone and makes the iPhone Xs look dated.

Let me guess. He’s going to make another video in a month or so about why he’s coming back to the iPhone?
