I like the S10e and I am potentially interested in giving it a look (I know, wild). The issue with this is that I have zero understanding of how this will or won't work with all of my Apple gear. A few questions for anyone who can potentially help answer for me...
1. Can I continue to use my Apple Watch?
2. Can I continue to use my HomePod? (potential set up, etc.)
3. Is there any alternative to a Home management app? My whole house is set up with HomeKit gear.
4. I am pretty sure AirPods will continue to work, but wanted confirmation.
For anyone who has made the switch or has given this some thought, any info would be great. My initial guess is that it is more work than it is worth, but I wanted to some real world experience from any of you. Thanks in advance.
Since all everyone else is doing is laughing, i'll try and help:
1: No. There is no compatibility with the Watch outside of an iPhone. you would have to move to either android wear or a Samsung galaxy watch
2: No, The homepod only works for Airplay based devices or Apple Music. You will still require an iPhone to configure it.
3: Yes, Google Home app is Google's variation on the homekit app and will be compatible with most homekit devices. But you will likely need to reconfigure everything
5: Yes, AirPods will work but only as standard bluetooth headphones. No W chip compatilibity, so you do lose the easy device switching and SIRI shortcut.
I've not done full ecosystem changes, but have bounced between iPhones and Androids a few times. But I tend to use only services that are platform agnostic so that it's easy to change without having to rebuild/redo all m data.
for basic data on the phone, Samsung does hav a migration assistant program that will seamless move contacts, photos and other data from your iPhone to a samsung device.
is it more work than worth? that depends how vested you are in one ecosystem or the other and how portable things are. Moving to android might pose some headaches for some of the iOS or MacOS specific functionality (Like AirDrop if it's in your workflow). But then somethings like Apple music will work fine on Android.
There will also be some learning curve as Android and iOS just behave in slightly different ways for some things. For example, the way notifications are handled are different. Whether or not you find it better / worse, will be more just a comfort thing.
