Wireless charging by nature is inefficient. Would I use it? In all of the time I had my iphone I always have some charging method with me and have never run out of juice, so I don't know if I would use that particular feature.

What makes it inefficient, at least in your opinion? I think can help reduce clutter on a desk a bit. Plus quick charge is known to wear out batteries faster.

Got my hands on the S10 line this weekend at Best Buy. The s10e has won me over.

It's the phone I wish the XR was: The bezel is smaller, the screen is OLED, the screen is 1080p, and the device is smaller overall than the S10 and Xr, it has a headphone jack and starts with 2x the memory of the XR while also supporting SD. It feels great in the hand. The hole punch looks good in person. The wide angle camera is more handy in my typical use. It's solid hardware.

It gets rid of those god forsaken curved edges!

It loses the heart rate sensor, which I thought was a fun bonus on the Galaxy line. That sensor is very accurate.

Best Buy will give me $600 to trade in my old phone. I could get an s10e cheap, or get the full blown s10 for a bit more with included Samsung buds with wireless charging case.

Lol. I'm 42. My wife is 41. My father is 81 and mother is 71. My partners at work are in their 40's, 50's and 60's. Friends are all in their 40's.

They are all comfortable with the little iMessage enhancements to SMS and Ain't no What'sApp conversions going to happen here.

But if I were in my 20's or early 30's again, probably....
LOL I'm also 42 so I don't know what that have to do with anything... My parents managed just fine. ;-)

It's all a matter of preference and needs and I hope it serves you well. Congrats and enjoy the new phone!

I didn't buy it - I'm considering it heavily because of the trade in!

It really is a nice phone but I am tired of how long Samsung takes to upgrade android.

I mean, it's not really that long anymore. My S9+ is already running Pie and One UI. If it's taking long for you, your carrier is most likely at fault because they usually have their own variant.

The Pie and One UI for my S9 on Verizon was available the day before the S10 announcement.

Verizon probably just sucks. ;)

I like the S10e and I am potentially interested in giving it a look (I know, wild). The issue with this is that I have zero understanding of how this will or won't work with all of my Apple gear. A few questions for anyone who can potentially help answer for me...

1. Can I continue to use my Apple Watch?
2. Can I continue to use my HomePod? (potential set up, etc.)
3. Is there any alternative to a Home management app? My whole house is set up with HomeKit gear.
4. I am pretty sure AirPods will continue to work, but wanted confirmation.

For anyone who has made the switch or has given this some thought, any info would be great. My initial guess is that it is more work than it is worth, but I wanted to some real world experience from any of you. Thanks in advance.

You can't use an apple watch with android. Apple wants you to buy in completely, whether you want to or not.

I'm surprised....when DNichter actually even gives a galaxy attention....loving it...your best post ever. And no your ecosystem does not integrate well unless you are willing to give it up and I know you are not at that point yet but its nice you considered it briefly.

I think the S10e looks pretty nice and I'd like to at least give it a longer look. You're right though, I think the only way would be to have 2 phones, but I really don't want to have more than 2 main devices. It would be cool for many if Apple created companion apps for such things on Android. Maybe in the future.

If they allowed iMessage to be used on any device windows, mac, ios, android, chrome os....it would be at least one good step in allowing that. Some of us are willing to pay a subscription for iMessage in our non-iOS macoS devices.....i would.

Yeah, this is exactly how I feel about the S10e versus the XR. I am so disappointed with what Apple pooped out in the iPhone XR. The S10e just feels so good and they cut all the right corners to deliver a cheaper phone that still feels premium and has premium specs. I'm very strongly considering getting the S10e... Since Apple decided to ruin their MacBook line, I really have no investment in the Apple ecosystem anymore other than my iPhone.

The dimensions are practically IDENTICAL to the iPhone X and XS. I think you are just interested because it is new lol.

Well if they continue their recent trends, I think it could happen. On the other hand, it certainly keeps people tied to Apple devices.

Yea I know, my interest doesn't really have anything to do with dimensions necessarily. I think they look like quality hardware and I think it would be interesting to give them a shot since I have primarily lived in the Apple ecosystem. In the end though, it may just be more work than it is worth.

That is one of the toughest things leaving the iPhone behind. I plan to sell my iPhone and Apple Watch, but I won’t do that until I know 100% I enjoy the S10E. I’ll probably know if I like it within a few days of usage.

The X and Xs are a wonderful size. It's part of why the s10e has turned a lot of heads.

I know my head was definitely turned with the S10e. The regular S10 is a tad too big for me. In the end though, I bet if we were all on iPhone 7s and the S10e came out first, we would all be salivating at the X design if it came out AFTER the S10. I think we are all just getting a little bored of our year and a half "X design".

Functionally I don't think the S10 will offer that much difference than the S9 which is almost all screen anyway (except for the minor bezels on the top and bottom).

I am not unhappy/bored with my XS Max necessarily, although I will drop to the XS size this year, but the S10e looks really nice and I wouldn't mind giving it a fair shake and seeing how it actually stacks up in day to day use.

Lol. Thanks for the laugh.

Laughing at the fact that I am interested in seeing what an S10e is like or laughing at my hope/expectation that it could be used well along with my other Apple gear?

Since all everyone else is doing is laughing, i'll try and help:

1: No. There is no compatibility with the Watch outside of an iPhone. you would have to move to either android wear or a Samsung galaxy watch

2: No, The homepod only works for Airplay based devices or Apple Music. You will still require an iPhone to configure it.

3: Yes, Google Home app is Google's variation on the homekit app and will be compatible with most homekit devices. But you will likely need to reconfigure everything

5: Yes, AirPods will work but only as standard bluetooth headphones. No W chip compatilibity, so you do lose the easy device switching and SIRI shortcut.

I've not done full ecosystem changes, but have bounced between iPhones and Androids a few times. But I tend to use only services that are platform agnostic so that it's easy to change without having to rebuild/redo all m data.

for basic data on the phone, Samsung does hav a migration assistant program that will seamless move contacts, photos and other data from your iPhone to a samsung device.

is it more work than worth? that depends how vested you are in one ecosystem or the other and how portable things are. Moving to android might pose some headaches for some of the iOS or MacOS specific functionality (Like AirDrop if it's in your workflow). But then somethings like Apple music will work fine on Android.

There will also be some learning curve as Android and iOS just behave in slightly different ways for some things. For example, the way notifications are handled are different. Whether or not you find it better / worse, will be more just a comfort thing.
