i want a notch

Where are the agile entrepreneurs making notch stickers so that notch lovers could stick notch overlays on up to ALL of their screens? Notched Mac, notched big-screen TV, notched art on walls, notched photographs, notched windows, notched windshields, etc. Furthermore, if someone would make notch stickers, notch lovers could double their pleasure by sticking notches at the top & bottom... or quadruple it by adding a notch to ALL sides of their screens. I really want an I-beam screen or even an X-beam screen.

For all the notch love we tend to sling around, it's hard to grasp how there are no such options available yet. Want AirPods in colors other than stock? There's options for that. Want a variety of non-stock skins for any of your devices? There's options for that. But the "we love notches" crowd is apparently ignored. What a lucrative opportunity for some sticker manufacturer!!! We demand notches for all! ;)

So you'd rather they wait until the next version of the OS comes out to release hardware... but wait, that's what Apple does. So is it Samsung copies Apple, or not? Appears to me they are doing their own thing by staggering their products through the year rather than going with a big bang.

It will be released with a stable, and up to date release of the current version of Android. In contrast, Apple takes a several point releases to get it right... even though they completely control the whole experience.

The next version of the OS is already out. So its being released with out of date software, and they've had the beta for a while now, and could have released it with the Android Pie. While apple has lots of minor point releases, they can release them instantly to all of the devices. When a bug is found in android it could take up to a year for the hardware companies to patch it. Apple can and has released patches the next day when a bug is found, because they completely control the whole experience.

Sorry but I find it highly inefficient design-wise of a phone and software-wise to need 8GB of RAM. Impressive spec wise but I can think of no reasons why the Note 9 needs more than 6GB of RAM when the iPhone X uses 3GB and multitasks like a champ. I assume it's significant inefficiencies of Android and Samsung's bloatware. See iPad Pros with 4GB of RAM. It feels like this is Samsung completely caught up in the spec game. The 845 chip is still not on par with the A11, let alone the A12 coming.

Annnddd another incredibly overpriced phone, thanks Apple, the tech world really owes you for milking it to the max for those profits with massive mark ups!

Over a grand in the U.K. for the 512GB Note 9, at least it drops in price over the year which is something I guess?

Smartwatch
Big Phones
S-Pen
Wireless Headphones
Wireless Charging
Heart Rate sensor
Samsung Health App
These are some.

Bar the S Pen I wouldn’t say it’s innovated in any of these fields?

EDIT: ah I didn’t see the ‘big phones’, yes they pretty much developed that market on their own. And they have been innovating in the screens used ever since, to the extent they make Apples now..

thanks for keeping headphone jack and SD card. 1TB on a phone is mind bogging... for me the other notable feature is using with a real display with just single cable. that can work as semi computer. cpu / ram is plenty powerful for typical surfing and movie watching.

This, I will give to Samsung, is really cool and is probably the direction many users will go moving forward. Dock your phone to a monitor when you get home from work, and use that as your home computer. The Note and iPhone are certainly powerful enough to run probably 95% of the software most people use on their home computers.

double the memory, a bigger battery, to name a few. Why they chose 999 im not sure. But these improvements are worth atleast a 100 dollar increase from last years model.
So basically the Apple model. Finding a way to get people to pay more so ASPs increase.

Just because Apple does something doesn’t mean Samsung or anyone else needs to follow.

Samsung has noted that the 1K price point for a phone is workable and hence the S9 at that price. The price is meaningless because these phones are heavily subsidized in order to sell them. There offerings are good because the keep Apple moving forward. As for the notch I could care less whether it is there or not on my X. Looked weird for a day or too, but much like roof color you only notice it the day it is installed. it is crazy to me that other manufacturers are adding a notch to their phones if only to look like an X. Apple never put the notch on the X as a design element. They needed the space at the top and instead of a solid black bar they added a little extra real estate to handle the carrier name, signal and battery strength. Will probably be gone this fall.

Amazing HW running on Android.
This is where it fails everything.
I used Android for several years in parallel with iOS.
Nice new features but somehow not a fluent experience.
Feels awkward many times - But it’s my feeling.
Nice HW though.

PS - who in Heavens uses pen on a large phone except baristas when they take your order??...???

Honest question: has Samsung developed any innovative smartphone features that have stuck around for more than a couple years?

Not sure if Samsung developed it but they certainly support Always on Displays, which I find very useful on the S7 Edge. Something Apple should have introduced on the iPhone X. (And if you don't like it, you can switch it off). Honest answer.

I'm sticking to my Note 8, I don't see the point in upgrading for the small new features the Note 9 has. I'll either get me a new iPhone or Pixel this time around or stay on my Note 8 another year and save the money.

At least they kept the headphone jack, SD card, and no stupid notch.

That’s what I’m thinking most Android S9 or Note8 users will come to.

If their buying decision is based off a Notch, double storage capacity and a headphone jack that was never removed on their existing products then what’s the point for restarting a contract with their carrier or spending huge upgrade dollars?!

EDIT: someone will just buy the new S-Pen and make it work with their Note 8 hehe.

Nice phone, but Samsung should really consider lowering the price. $1250? They just don’t understand that the only way to compete with Apple is by offering a flagship for lower price than iPhone. Android users are not as loyal as iPhone users. There are so many great Android choices right now and the Samsung is the most expensive, why would you really buy it?

You know, average customer who has $1000+ for a phone is most likely buying an iPhone, because it's iPhone. The Android users are the mostly the people who find iPhone overpriced, so they are buying cheaper phones with flagship specs. I don't see this being a huge hit. For $700-850 it could be.

I do. When taking notes I find it a lot quicker than when using the keyboard. Also, when in an interview type of setting, no one thinks that you are ignoring them and texting your friends.

It is very handy, I use it for a lot of stuff on my Note8 and it is the only thing I miss with my iPhone X (sometimes the larger screen too). The user experience with the iPhone X is generally better ... except I miss that pen!
