Nice, useful set of widgets on that Samsung homescreen.

Apple really needs to let the iPad have such things. It's got a much bigger battery than a phone, and its screen real estate should be used for more than a grid of static icons.

A salute to Samsung innovation. Oh, wait...

But the reason I am getting an Android tablet is because of the widgets, it's the killer feature for me.

Enjoy the widgets. You certainly won't be enjoying the complete lack of Android tablet apps.

Or you could, you know, just jailbreak an iPad and have the best of both worlds.

It seems that Apple is one of the last remaining few companies that actually have any originality. Everyone else just makes 2nd rate copies like this thing.

Money over integrity and originality. It all just seems so sad and pathetic.

Perhaps like Belkin iPod connector doesn't look similar to Apple one?

Still you're wrong in you assumption that Samsung copied Apple with this connector, look at Dell, G2 tablet, etc

Not sure why you included the link, it proves my point entirely. There are PDMI connectors out there that don't have such a similar build to the Apple dock connector. The samsung one in my pic is a blatant copy of the apple cable right next to it. Again to clarify I'm talking in terms of aesthetics, not the interface, so I'm right to say that Samsung has copied Apple in the design department with the cable.

No one should be supporting this; no matter how much you love and worship Apple.

So, you are okay with cheating? Apple spent millions on research and have someone copy its ideas is simply wrong. Making a similar product is fine, but Samsung has gone too far. Galaxy 10.1 differ with other honeycomb tabs by not having USB, sd card reader, etc Instead, it is just like the iPad and has a 30 pin connector, too. It also has a home button as well. Plus, some of the Samsung stock icons look almost identical to apple's stock icons like the itune icon!

Exactly like the Dell Streak is a blatant copy of Apple one.

Well, I retire, you're convinced that only Samsung has copied the look and even when Apple hasn't said nothing in any suit about the cable.

Apple can't compete??

Wow.

Yeah... the iPad only sells 1000/1 over the Tab. Apple must be failing!

I think it's funny that the Android Fan boys on this forum always got to turn every article into a pis....ing match. Who cares? Go buy what you like and enjoy. You're preaching to the wrong group here.

Obviously Apple is trying to protect their IP and what everyone is scrambling to copy and one-up. Can't blame them. They've created huge successes where others have failed many times.

It's just sad that patent trolls can win cases and companies with real innovations have to fight like mad to protect their turf.

Tab 10.1 doesn't have any home button and it doesn't have any Samsung icon, it has stock Honeycomb icons.

So any tablet which doesn't have a sd card reader is a blatant copy of the iPad? Dell Streak has a PDMI connector, does it means that it has copied Apple?

Oh, c'mon people! There were tablets that looked exactly like the ipad BEFORE the ipad was even announced. Sure, they were not high-end tablets, but that does not really matter.

Just for fun... my favorite iPad lookalike (black, page shaped, with a border, albeit using a stylus) dates from 17 years ago:

Tablet Newspaper Concept video - 1994

Jump ahead to 2:15 for first view of it as seen below. Then at 4:30 a guy is using it at a restaurant while with someone, which is eerily like some tablet users today :)

Why is that, exactly? You don't think corporations (or individuals) should defend their intellectual property or inventions? Patent law is complex, so maybe you're a patent lawyer and can tell us why Apple's patent claims are invalid.

Not at all. But this is a topic about Samsung.

So much for retiring, eh? :D

Most Android phones look kind of iphone/ipad esque but you can definitely distinguish them from apple products. They have unique curves, angles, colors etc.. however

Most Samsung Android products look like Apple products. Definitley from a hardware perspective and they borrow lots of software UI features as well.

it's a legitimate KIRF. I think it's an amazing strategy if you can get away with it. Annoying but great stategy.

Of all the 50 Android tablets out there, Samsung's looks the most like an iPad.

Of all the 50 Android phones out there Samsung phones look most like different iphone versions.

So Apple has every right to be annoyed by this and pursue it in the courts.

I'm sure they copied the connect to take advantage of iPhone and iPad accessories out there. One of the BIG drawbacks to all the other tablets... no accessories or very limited accessories. I'd be peeved if I were Apple if someone copied their connector.

Mmm, I hasn't said that I would retire from the thread, just from arguing with you, that's all

No, but arguing about Samsung apparently copying Apple when others have copied Apple is what you seemed to be retiring from.

Thanks, I plan to, and the apps will come out in due time, just like it did for Android smartphones.

(let's see the Silicon Architecture, eh)?

It's about what is under the Hood. It's more about "Copy Cat" Architecture on Silicone, IMO, and Samsung knows what's going down.

What are you talking about, silicon architecture ? The A5 is a ARM Cortex A9 architecture with a PowerVR SGX GPU, Samsung is using nVidia's Tegra 2 platform, which is a ARM Cortex A9 with an nVidia GPU.

It's not like Apple basically invented their silicon here...

Maybe you want to clarify a bit what you think Samsung copied from Apple at the silicon level here ?

PDMI is not compatible with Apple's dock connector.

I was seriously hoping that the usually Apple cheerleaders were going to drop the PDMI argument after looking so foolish back on page 1 with it.

But it seems they can't stop spouting their ignorance on the subject.

Apple is basically a patent troll at this point. The original iPhone bore an interface (and still does) that is remarkably similar in layout to the Samsung F700, which was announced at CES in 2006 prior to the iPhone. Samsung isn't suing Apple over that -- but I bet had they known Apple would get their panties in a bunch over the same thing down the road, they would have.

It's not the first time Apple has lifted features from other sources, and it varies greatly. Their early OSes had low-level features present in things like DOS, and even today -- the iOS jailbreak community basically does nothing but feed Apple "new" ideas on their own platform.

They should stop being ridiculous and compete. Come out with something markedly better than what's being "imitated" so that nobody wants the imitations instead of trying to play patent whack-a-mole because there's a viable competitor to your product.
