i actually prefer the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 over the iPad. it seems that a lot of people here haven't even really taken the time to use it.. it also seems that there's a lot of negativity from iPad users whenever these topics come up. it's like some of you act like it's a personal attack against your mother or something.

Exactly! I wonder why Apple isn´t using widgets at all.... The space on the iPad is there, but it´s unused. I hate having to click on buttons before I actually get to the informations I want. Once set up it´s far easier and faster with widgets.
iOS sadly enough is quite behind...it almost looks like straight from 2007.
Love my iPhone for the batterylife and the integrated iPod. Sadly enough, thats why I bought it...because back then with android 2.1....those features sucked.

i have to agree actually, after owning 3gens of iPhones and "maybe" soon an iPad i still think the iOS design looks rly dated

There is no alternative.

Samsung needs to innovate their own hardware.

You know, the iPad uses Samsung Displays. Samsung knows how to innovate their own hardware.

What you are thinking off is case design. And there is not much to innovate: It is a square thin slate.

Or connector design. A 30 pin connector to fit a 8 … 10 mm thick slate. How many options are there to fit the physical constraints? None at all. Only a square thin connector will do.

And now vote me down. This is the inverted forum. So lower the vote so better the posting. And I consider my posting a success when it reaches -10. Thanks for your support.

lol love the last part. this board makes me realize why a "i dont like" button on FB would be a horroble idea

I own both tablets and for the life of me don't understand what Apple's problem is; there are only so many ways to design a tablet  While using the Tab at no time did I experience deja-vu or have mistaken it for iPad. I guess Apple feels threatened by the Samsung since it's the leading OEM of Android devices.

The looser pays it all.

I just realizes something here which has not been discussed here: If Apple looses the court case in Australia then Apple will have to pay compensation to Samsung.

AFAIK this is the mayor difference between the USA and most other countries when it comes to court cases. I heard that in the USA both parties pay they own while in most other countries the looser pays it all.

Apple is basically a patent troll at this point. The original iPhone bore an interface (and still does) that is remarkably similar in layout to the Samsung F700, which was announced at CES in 2006 prior to the iPhone. Samsung isn't suing Apple over that -- but I bet had they known Apple would get their panties in a bunch over the same thing down the road, they would have.

Patent trolls produce nothing. They buy patents with the express intent to sue over those patents as a business model. Apple does not remotely qualify as a patent troll.

Apple haters continuously spout off about "grid of icons" or "Apple patented a square phone". It's a pathetic argument to make. The common theme for the (particularly annoying) ABA geek crowd is to cherry pick one or two phrases (i.e. grid of icons), and base entire arguments around that as though that is what Apple is suing over. Perhaps if they repeat that fallacy a couple hundred thousand more times, they will slip into an alternate universe where it becomes fact. I guess it's not all that surprising that computer geeks often have an urge to attempt to boil everything down to black or white, yes or no, zero or one.

The grid of icons is one phrase out of a larger written description of the look of the phone UI. Any given element on it's own has no meaning... context is key. Taken in aggregate with the plethora of other things that where directly lifted from Apple, and you have a solid case.

There is nothing wrong with lifting good ideas from others (given it's not patented, if it's something functional we are talking about). Take something and improve on it. That's the way it's always worked, and that's how it should work. But there is a limit to how far you can go. Many seem incapable of grasping the concept of degrees. The rest of the industry came up with their own designs. Samsung chose to just mimic the iPhone as close as possible instead. Now they are paying for that decision, just as it should be.

Can you show me the sentence where Samsung has started to pay?

Paying in the form of being slapped with a lawsuit. Not paying in the form of penalties. I have stayed out of this thread minding my own business

That's the 4th time you've said something similar in this thread. I never said the lawsuit(s) were over. I never said Samsung was paying restitution for the violations. I merely said Samsung is paying for their decision to blatantly copy, period.

They are paying by dealing with these lawsuits. They are paying for the attorneys for these cases. They are paying in what this will do to their relationship with one of their biggest customers. They are paying by having an injunction placed on their products so they can't even sell the thing in Australia, with a likelihood of the same thing happening in other countries. "Paying" covers a wide range of things.

Thanks for the clarification.

And well, is only your opinion that is a blatant copy.

Having an iPad 2 and, over time, noticing the infuriating Apple-imposed limitations it has, I will seriously get a Samsung Tab for my next tablet. I've had it will Apple ham-stringing it's devices. "it just works" ain't good enough anymore.

Thank you Captain Obvious. Yes, it is my opinion that Apple is right on this one. That has what to do with what, exactly?

You just stated it like a fact, and he's clarifying it for you. You should thank him instead of being pissy just because you have differing opinions.

I've felt the same way, but at the end of the day, when they do pull back on limitations, it is with polish and refinement. Many features I have tried on the Tab and Xoom are half-baked attempts implemented to bolster their spec sheet on their Best Buy display

What features are they specifically?
