The edge looks like a pretty sweet idea to me, but it seems odd that they didn't put that edge on both sides. Also if it is displaying something different all the time, I feel like that's like having a menu bar that doesn't disappear, which would annoy me when I'm hoping for a full screen experience. Still it's an interesting implementation, and kudos to their team for doing something different with the curved screens that they are pushing in 4k TVs, which don't do much for me.

I have a Note 2 and my prior phone was an iPhone 4. My wife has an iPhone 5 and will likely get an iPhone 6. I still have many Apple devices and other devices so I do feel I judge products on their own merit and not by who made them.

I have been very happy with my Note 2 and will very likely get a Note 4. I was very impressed with today's Samsung announcement. I'm specifically referring to the devices, the presentation was once again awful and they really should not have had all of Rachel's absurd quirkiness. I don't use the SPen a ton on my Note 2 but it does look much better with the Note 4. Just being able to use it with the Home and Back buttons will be huge and why I don't use mine much currently. I don't know if that is new to the Note 4 or was part of the 3. I thought the watch looked good for functionality but appeared quite large and the band looked poor. I doubt I would get it.

The VR sounds awesome and regardless of Samsung, Apple or whoever I am very excited where things are going with that. Very curious to hear pricing. While the Edge really isn't right for me I applaud Samsung for trying something innovative and time will tell how successful it is. Remember the Note got slammed when it first came out and is now a flagship device and a legitimate competitor to the iPhone. Let's wait and see over the next few years how the Edge 2 and 3 do assuming it survives.

Anything that requires Apple to stay on their toes is good for the consumer. I am excited to see how Apple does with the iPhone 6 release and am very curious about their wearable device. While I would say I'm likely to stick with Android/Note it isn't 100% decided until I hear from Apple. Also regardless if I stay with Samsung for now I want Apple to keep pushing forward and Samsung doing the same so my next device will continue to get better from my previous one.

Can you really tell the difference between 400 and 500 PPI? They just want the bragging rights I guess.

That being said, the Note 4 Edge is the first nice looking Galaxy device I've seen.

That Note Edge is the dumbest thing I've ever seen.

 :D

Actually, the edge looks pretty cool. http://youtu.be/gA1aOuK29_8

I'm an Apple head thru & thru...but competition is good. I usually don't like samsung design...but the edge with its curved functional display is kinda cool.

eww, I think after watching that video it seems even worse.

I don't like the glare (yeah, I know that is the video-lighting problem)
I don't like that some text is "upside down" and hard to read. (again, the angle shown in the video is almost opposite what I'd want to see)
I don't like the hard to use/swipe feature of it
I do like the video controls on the strip but you almost don't need that if you just swipe on the screen side-to-side

everything on that strip seems harder to use/control

So, let's get this straight -
1920x1080 is HD
3840x2080 is Quad HD

...but "Ultra Quad HD" is only 2560×1440?

Apple???? Just got left in dust.. With hack scandal and old tech. Cook is in huge trouble.. Samsung just took game set and match. Samsung is the leader in technology and Apple has not done anything since Jobs died. No wow factor for Apple

Actually, only 300 mAh more. 5,5" iPhone 6 is supposed to have 2915 mAh battery.

ah ok my bad. i only remembered the 2 for the iphone and the number 3 on the samsung :D

I haven't used a stylus in many years. Are they really a benefit now, or just a gimmick?

i miss it everyday in class for taking notes, ive tried 3 styluses thus far but its just not the same on the iPad screen. it just isnt built for it unfortunately

To you and others who are saying this - what about this design is interesting? Merely because it's different?

I'm curious what benefits this would offer? What issues does this solve?

i see it as a great opportunity to move the options and settings to the curved side while keeping the rest of the screen in focus on what you are looking it. kinda like how the options are part of the menu bar on mac os.
of course devs of android would have to update their apps for it which they unfortunately wont for one of a billion android devices on the market

Can someone help me understand the benefit of having a curved edge to edge screen

Some people will never understand the benefit until Apple makes a similar move. Then it will suddenly become wonderful, awesome, magnificent etc.

How do people actually think this looks good? It's a gimmicky, poorly thought out addition to the UI. Add in a stylus and this is just a ridiculous phone.

My main concern is storage. I would prefer to go with iOS and a (hopefully) 5.5 inch iPhone 6, but only if it has a 128GB option. For me, storage is king. But if we are stuck again at 64GB, I'm probably going to look hard at the Note 4. I have a Note 3, as well as an iPhone 5S (I like the snappy simplicity of iOS, as well as the Apple ecosystem), but Samsung's buggy software adaptations weigh down an otherwise great piece of hardware. Hopefully, they did a better job with their Note 4 Android adaptation.

Yeah huge trouble... They are going to sell 55 million iPhone 6's by the end of the year...

So far, I have to admit that based on the iPhone 6 rumors, the Note 4 is definitely the better phone. Hopefully some of the rumors are wrong and the iPhone 6 gets a 5.5" display, 32GB standard, and a higher res screen than the one rumored.

Too bad you can't run stock android on the Note 4.

They can definitely keep the Edge though.

Why so gullible?

Mention the timing.

This is clearly just a load of crap thrown in ahead of the Apple event, complete mockup imagery with no details so they can 'me first' and throw a wide net of speculation around anything that Apple might come up with.

The always are... but nothing compares to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v7qTHbOEiDY

The Note edge is actually something new! I like the idea of having a notifications control bar on the side. Certainly something smash able though! And something Fragemented again ;)

Does make me chuckle that they bring out a VR headset that is not compatible with only the note.. not ht enot edge. It's really arse from elbow stuff. They just don't seem to have any cohesion with their products... Just shove out any old junk and see what people buy.

Innovate fast sometimes compromises ecosystem coupling. Particularly, I don't like things like "enter the Apple ecosystem and you'll never be able to connect to a Samsung or Sony device easily". If a device supports bluetooth, it have to do its best to support interoperability.

I don't like all Samsung products, but I like the way they bring something new year after year. Since iPad, Apple doesn't bring anything really new. On the Mac side, on the other hand, Apple is being rather innovative. Just look at Retina Macbooks and the new Mac Pro.

I am just amazed by how poorly a job Samsung does when rolling out their products. That presentation was unwatchable. It looks like a "show and tell" day at a grade school. How can a company that large not get it right?

I do like the fact that they are innovating and coming out with so many products as that can only help the market and force Apple to stay on their toes. I like the Gear S and the Edge isn't too bad, but when they present them in the way they did, I lose my interest a bit.
