Best option IMO would be to let the tech mature and wait for the price go down to sub 1k levels.

How do you think that happens without some buyers willing to be on the bleeding edge of technology?

No way I'm going to pay upwards of 2k for something that can break if I drop it, or get stolen if I forget it, or misplace.

But some people will, and won’t think twice about it.

Is that your mantra? "Innovations change lives". That's not what innovation is. It can change lives but that's not a quality of innovation.

On topic: Bending a plastic screen will leave a crease. Who didn't realize that? Samsung should just position the Fold as a proof of concept device, because that's what it is. So are the other fold designs they're going to offer. I see folding phones in the same light as 3D and curved TV's. Flashes in the pan.
Woz said it first. I just repeated it because he’s right.

A folding phone would change my life.
You aren’t the measuring stick.

Also, a foldable phone that works well and makes sense is the key.

With enough force, I can fold my iPhone X. Doesn’t mean it works.

So why are you the measuring stick?

Samsung is trying to see what works. This is obviously a beta. An expensive beta, but still a beta - and they have admitted that.

Looks like they're going to give their users different form factors and see what works. Nothing wrong with that. Choice is good.

I’m not.

You’re looking at the Goliath that is Apple and that the strategy has worked and they continue to satisfy customers in an industry with tons of choices.

Crap erodes your brand. Samsung throws out crap and sees if it sticks, eroding their image of quality. Apple isn’t going to put their logo on something that is CLEARLY not ready.

Nope, Samsung is also working on a flip phone style folding model.

Plus one that has outer screens like the Huawei.

Instead of deciding on a single style, like Apple would do, Samsung is willing to offer multiple models and let customers decide for themselves.

Otherwise known as throwing everything at the wall as seeing what sticks.

I’ll believe this crease issues exists once actual users have experienced it, not by claims that ‘someone’ has apparently said this and that.. which is literally all this story bios down to at present. No proof or confirmation by Samsung what so ever in this report.

A foldable device has to do something more than just be foldable.

If it has a tablet's weight and double the bulk of a typical phone, making it foldable serves little purpose as the problem of portability will still exist and be added to by issues of fragility and creasing and rigidity.

Until you have a foldable device that is as thin and light and rigid and robust as current phones, foldable screens bring nothing to the table other than problems.

I'm super excited on getting my hands on a foldable smartphone. I do watch and use my smartphone more than a laptop or PC (for private use) and I could really use that extra screen when traveling or sitting inside a train, while going to work. Watching Netflix and YouTube on a bigger screen, and when you're done you can fold it again and it easily fits inside your pockets. With twice the screen estate. Is something that I absolutely would like.

Is there any hard material that can fold and unfold 20,000 times without damage?

Yeah while Samsung is working at creating a new category or smartphones Apple has these kind of problems:
Apple’s first option, Cowen wrote, is to “launch 18 months after 5G competition with an inferior modem from Intel likely without mmWave capabilities,” referring to the band of spectrum that can be used for 5G’s high-speed wireless communications.

At this point expectations from Apple in general have to be lowered significantly.
Let's hope they don't at least screw up iOS 13, like they did with iOS 11.

I must have missed the announcement - - when did this website turn into SamsungRumors?

"Samsung is experimenting with multiple folding designs to figure out what kind of fold works best with a smartphone/tablet hybrid."

This to me, screams that Samsung didn't engage in exhaustive usability testing and rushed to get first to market.
My thoughts exactly. This should be done before release.

1. Samsung absolutely rushed this to the market. Remember, it was not them that showed the first concepts.
2. Samsung openly offering replacement if **** goes south? Take note Apple.
