As i’ve stated during the mass hype, after a while the screen will broke, become damaged or can’t unfold 100%

I will stick to iPad Pro at least for many years to come, I really see very little advantages, but many cons.

It has no advantages. Only a bunch of compromises.

Please ...

Well people are perfectly happy to claim any number of Apple products have changed their life without being questioned about it. What is wrong with the idea of a phone which was far more flexible (no pun intended) making life easier?

Because it doesn’t. You just convinced yourself that it does and there is a difference for example between an Apple Watch with HR and fall detection which actually saved lives and a stupid looking phone that unfolds into stupid looking thing with stupid aspect ratio.

The honeymoon phase for the early adopters will be very short.

This phone is like all of Samsung’s devices. They get wind of what Apple is developing and the go all out to being someone out that is similar to what they heard Apple is doing.

Then it comes out and is mediocre, not though out, inelegant and fragile. I’ll wait till Apple bring out their folding masterpiece.

Can you iPad fit into your pocket?
No. Big fail there

This “add” is to me one of the most beautiful videos Apple has ever created. The message, animation, music - everything is perfect, telling you exactly what makes Apple special. It is such an amazing piece!

Apple can’t/won’t focus on being first; and they don’t have to. They would never release something like this, that is so untested and unfinished.

Really? Can you prove your claims?
I will say you definitely can't.

I’m not.

You’re looking at the Goliath that is Apple and that the strategy has worked and they continue to satisfy customers in an industry with tons of choices.

Crap erodes your brand. Samsung throws out crap and sees if it sticks, eroding their image of quality. Apple isn’t going to put their logo on something that is CLEARLY not ready.
No Apple is putting their logos on crapbooks and crapminis which are faulty by design :D

I don't understand why so many people are making the case that Apple somehow has to release a folding phone or it isn't innovating.
I’m wondering the same since 2012

Apple is clearing pivoting into wearables.

I have no idea. Any angle I try to look from it makes no sense.

It's his problem that other people have a problem with Apple's business strategy?
No, it's his problem that someone states a folding phone might in a small way make their life easier (generally the idea of tech), and immediately jumps in to stamp on this statement.
There is blind defence of anything Apple and being an attack dog to anything that isn't and then there is being plain dumb. Somehow he's got both down to a fine art.

Aren't you all equally guilty of the same? Someone feels that what Samsung has done actually isn't all that useful or meaningful, and you are all jumping at him for being contrary to what you all believe.

Generally, it feels that the general tone here is that any response bashing Apple gets celebrated (no matter how wrong or ludicrous), while any post which dares speak out in defence of Apple gets heavily booed, even when the latter subsequently turns out to be correct or justified.

I also find it comically ironic when people say Apple "needs to" do something like this or it’s "not innovating anymore" but then it turns out the result isn’t something most people end wanting, like Netbooks, or 3D, or phone keyboards.

I am willing to go out on a limb and bet that folding phones will end up falling in this last category. It's not a phone which can be unfolded into a larger tablet. It's a tablet which can be folded into a smaller form factor. The problem then comes when you pretty much have to unfold it every time you want to use it (because the Samsung Galaxy Fold demo makes it look utterly worthless as a smartphone). Not to mention that android tablets are pretty much dead, yet Samsung is hoping to con people into shelling out $2000 for one?

I don't see how this can possibly translate into a great user experience however you spin it.

Ok, scenario.. Folding phones come in.. Nobody here has touched one, seen one etc..

Several people are enthusiastic that tech is being pushed forward, look at the pro's and cons and say this is good for the industry as a whole.
Apple defender +, "this is naff, never work, no application, wont help people, crease, android, data piracy, China, useless tech etc"...

That's ALL they bring to the table. that's it. Over and over, shouting down anyone else's slight admiration for the technology even in it's early beta stages.

Had this been an Apple release, they'd be sticking two fingers up at Samsung and hailing it as the greatest innovative tech ever released.

You get the picture?

I think it could be an exciting development, only time will tell. I have a fairly big smartphone but still prefer to read books on my kindle because of the extra size. If I had a foldable phone I would certainly get rid of my kindle. Games would be more enjoyable too with a bigger screen. I use my phone as a phone very rarely so it's the other possibilities that could come with a foldable phone that appeal to me.

Regarding a crease, IF there is a crease I am sure future advancements in technology will improve the situation. For me it would depend on how soon the crease would appear. If it was guaranteed to survive three years before any creasing signs showing up then it wouldn't be a deal breaker at all as it would be acceptable wear and tear to me and after 2 years I usually upgrade my phone anyway.

Meanwhile at Apple,iPhone team are busy deciding which new shade of gold should they use for the next iPhone and how much more they can sell it.
very innovative.

Actually more probable is that they're working on FaceID 2.0 with a smaller notch, triple rear cameras, a SOC two years ahead of the competition and possible pencil support.

Also all indications point to a lower price point, but I'll believe that when I see it.

And just like that.... the tablet market died.
Nope, and for so many reasons.
Nope, Samsung is also working on a flip phone style folding model.

View attachment 824933

Plus one that has outer screens like the Huawei.

Instead of deciding on a single style, like Apple would do, Samsung is willing to offer multiple models and let customers decide for themselves.
What the OP meant was a semantic correction: if the hinge is vertical, the device folds horizontally.

Fold it so it easier to put it where the sun doesn’t shine.

Can’t really see a use for this in many years. But I guess a device could be made to look like the book Penny had from Inspector Gadget. If it’s thick like a small book we can get performance and good battery at the same time.
