Samsung employees often refer to Apple with code names. One of the most popular is "LO," short for "Lovely Opponent," people familiar with the matter said. Apple's descriptor for Samsung, meanwhile, is Samsung, according to people with knowledge of the situation.

Hahaha! Love it! :D

Samsung will earn monopoly profits from its AMOLED screens.Samsung produces about 90% of all AMOLED screens and Apple has no other choice that use Samsung AMOLED screens. Apple dont want to use higher resolution IPS screen on iPhone X because that would make the camera hump bigger. IPS screen are thicker because of extra layer that is needed for backlighting.

Samsung years of R&D and investing on AMOLED production really pays off. It will have short term monopoly for AMOLED until competitors like LG ramp up their production. AMOLED screen prices will go down but iPhone X price wont go down if there is enough demand for 999 dollar price point.

So basically some so-called research firm pulled numbers out of their rear end that would be good for clicks.

What makes you think they pulled it out of their rear end? What makes you think the WSJ didn't do their due diligence in reporting?

Really- what is your rebuttal against the WSJ to believe these numbers are random? Are you in the industry? Do you u have other data or insight? Or are you just an Apple enthusiast who posts on MacRumors?

What kind of technology are you talking about? AMOLED that Samsung has been using for years?

The OLED used by iPhone X is the true tone OLED with 3D Touch technology, which is totally different from Samsung’s OLED used in their phones.

What screen technology?

Samsung phones have had OLED displays for many years!

Lets compare:

iPhone x - 2436x1125 (458 PPI)
Galaxy S8 - 2960x1440 (570 PPI)
Galaxy S8+ - 2960x1440 (529PPI)

Article is bias'ed as heck. As you pointed out, why would Samsung WANT to use Apple's implementation of Samsung's SCREEN technology. It's ridiculous to even claim it' Apple's "screen technology" when they are using someone else's displays. All Apple is doing is applying their own settings. That's not proprietary "screen technology." You can argue they have proprietary SOFTWARE that's driving the screen resolution.

Kind of a non issue. Apple is good at sewing up suppliers. I'm sure they'll figure it out.

Marketing department has earned it's paycheck.:p:D The only things missing in your comment are Bionic, Super Retina, and Animoji. Oh, and facts. The comment is definitely missing those.

Profiting from competitor sales is a nice position to be in. You win a bit no matter which device a consumer buys.

However, supposedly Apple's big purchase is forcing Huawei, OOPO and Xiaomi to find some panels elsewhere, which could have longterm negative consequences.

It is a nice position, but often temporary.

Buying from a competitor is a great motivation to find other sources for needs, or, develop their own. Apple appears to be attempting the long game on many of their supply needs.

Wall Street journal has never really struck me as a credible source of Apple news. They are a news outfit with no special insight or understanding of the workings of Apple and as a result, I find it hard to give their Apple-related news much credibility.

In such a situation, I simply choose to neither believe nor refute the article. I will just treat it as though it never existed.

3D Touch

i doubt they're going to sell 130 mio iphone X. no doubt it's gonna sell like crazy but this is not a phone for everybody considering the price point. this is a phone for apple tech fans.
Never underestimate the willingness of those in our society to spend more money than what they can afford.
[doublepost=1506950110][/doublepost]"Apple's descriptor for Samsung, meanwhile, is Samsung"

Heh.

More projections every week for both of these companies. Unfortunate WSJ has a pay walll, was curious if they also considered production issues that are rumored to be plaguing the iPhone X.

Going to be hard to make a profit on a device that may not sell in volumes, simply because they can’t make them.
As I read this, I am shedding crocodile tears for Apple's loss of profit on a $1,000+ phone. And, nothing but an honest deep-sorrow for the missed opportunity by the executive staff to grab billions more in stock options./s

This is extremely sad. Apple just gave up on the mobile phones too. They gave up on the desktop and Operating system a long time ago. I want to read the excuses of the fan boys now. Did you read well ? Samsumg is making your screen and memory !. At least those components are gonna be of some quality now.
