Ah what would macrumors be without fanboy wars!! :D

Anyways, I admire the internal upgrades of the IP4S. Especially the camera. Not excited about siri but its there. Although I am now on a captivate (and i absolutely LOVE MIUI :p) and planning on a note or nexus prime, the fact is different devices interest different people. I never get the whole "my phone is better than yours" argument. I don't sleep at night thinking "oh i sure showed them my phone beat theirs'" :p

If iPhone 4S had a bigger screen i would have picked up a 64gb one despite the iOS limitations i do not like (lets not get into that, it is purely personal preference). Since i am more of a communication and media consumer than apps the big screen androids are nice. I see most people here defending 3.5inch screen which means most people do not share my preferences, but that is life.

Just buy what you like and oh, be thankful today you have choices at least. In 2009 when i wanted to buy a smartphone I only had a choice between 3GS and a bold 9700, and i hated the 9700 lol. But now we have come a long way. Choice is good. Technology diversity is good. All products got their pluses and minuses. As long as they do not end up like RIM it is all good :D

It amazes me how many people fight for their devices here and other forums instead of figuring ways to make cross-platform apps popular and better. Like playing a game online? It sucks to have just iOS and just android (soon WP7 for some) servers only. Where is the love?

Some guy with sense.

As for the overheating issue, that can be easily fixed by an upgrade from your phone operator or if you can't wait for an official upgrade, install a custom ROM (XDA-Developers have some good ones for the SGS-II) or buy a metal back cover on eBay for a few dollars.
Yeah, I really see your everyday nontechnical John and Jane doing that.

FINALLY! Someone who gets it! Every phone has its pluses and minuses at the end of the day and the iLame 4S seems to have a lot more minuses than pluses!

If you're referring to the Custom ROM thing, that's understandable. If not, they can always buy a metal back cover on eBay or get one of the versions that's specifically available for the North American market that's fixed the issues that the International and original Korean versions had or wait for the Galaxy S III.

The only reason why my HD2 didn't crash was because it had a metal back cover whereas for some weird reason due to Samsung wanting their phone to be as light as possible, they decided to go with a plastic back cover instead. In fact, it's already been said that the Galaxy S III will have a metal back cover instead of a plastic back cover.

At least the likes of Samsung are willing to listen to complaints and comments about their products unlike Apple!

Right... And I have some land in Atlantis that I want to sell you! :D I've heard of blind optimism over a phone that's WAY out of date and is SOOOOOO 2009, but this is ridiculous!

Ahhhhh the iPhone 4S is out of date because of the screen size.

What happening to this forum!?

I have no problem with people wanting a smaller-screen if that's what they're used to, but at the same time, there are people who want a bigger screen for various reasons such as playing videos or who are short-sighted and can't use an iLame because the screen size is too small for them even if they do have supposedly superior ppi.

At the end of the day, it's all about choice and it looks like a lot of people will be choosing Android over Apple big time because of what was announced yesterday!

I have no regrets about choosing Windows Mobile and Android over iOS.

iOS may be good for iPod Touches but as an mobile phone OS, I'm not too sure, to be honest... Android is way better in certain areas, especially where multi-tasking is concerned.

I say kudos to MS finally understanding this. It is sad that google is yet to become mainstream friendly OS provider.

You don't really have to make your OS open to all kinds of tweaks or tinkering etc to allow users some freedom. Unfortunately its either Do It Yourself for "open" or Do Everything My Way for controlled. Always has to be the two extreme ends.

The just works feature of iPhone is the single reason i feel drawn to it sometimes. I am training to be an engineer but engineers provide solutions, not waste time on products that are subpar to begin with aka flashing stuff to fix battery life and such. I use an android because apple refuses to produce a variant with bigger screen and the sandbox nature of apps compared to integrations (think WP7 mango) is annoying some times. But the thing works and lasts for ages!

Looks like i cant have my cake and eat it :p

Well, at least one nontechnical user disagrees with you (yeah, this is a couple of months old): :D http://www.betabeat.com/2011/07/29/why-my-mom-bought-an-android-returned-it-and-got-an-iphone/

(On the other hand, I don't believe the android return numbers in that article.)

I read the article and it makes for very interesting reading.

I never had any problems activating my phone in the UK. I didn't even have to go to Vodafone's UK site, all I needed to do was follow the instructions and I was up and running within minutes. I even got rid of all the Vodafone crap thanks to Titanium Backup and it runs a lot faster as a result. I've a feeling that the issue with activating the phone which belonged to the writer's mother was an Verizon issue as I know that the US carriers have a obscenely bad reputation compared to most of the EU carriers (This is just my theory though, so it's not gospel).

I am in my early 30's who already wore glasses back when I was 13 (near-sighted) and I know my eyes will be getting even weaker once I hit my 40's. My parents had 20/20 vision when they were young but once they hit their 40's, their vision got really bad that both needed reading glasses.
If your eyes are that bad (like mine), a slightly larger phone may cut it for now, but may not be enough in the future. A tablet PC like an iPad works wonders for that. I sometimes have a hard time reading my 3GS, but progressives make it readable.

I'm actually OK with the 4S screen size. Sure, a larger display would be nice, but it really doesn't make that much of a difference once your eyes get past a certain point. Progressives or bifocals, on the other hand, are much more useful than a slightly larger screen on a phone.

Well if you're short sighted then yeah, don't get the smaller phone. Thats pretty obvious isn't it.

I disagree about the rest but its purely preference as you said. :)
