Really? Your take on this article is that Samsung is purposefully copying Apple? Could it be the natural progression of smartphone technology is a 3-lens system?

What are the chances they drop the headphone jack for the s10.

i find it funny how everytime theres a apple rumor going around of a future product samsung hurries up and tries to built it first.

What makes you think that? Because the rumor of apple doing it came out first means they thought of it first? lol no.

I really want someone to leak that the next iPhone will have a Swiss Army Knife built in, and then see Samsung release a phone with a Swiss Army Knife built in, as Apple laugh at them.

Nothing too exciting when it comes to hardware these days. Kind of expected as eventually we'll all just have thin slabs of glass. It will all come down to software, performance, security, privacy, ecosystem, apps, and support. Apple has a serious lead in these areas.

I know fixed focal length lenses are generally brighter and sharper, but I'm really looking forward to them cracking the optics of putting a nice zoom lens into the slim enclosure of the iPhone. Until then, I'd love to see something like this for the next iPhone, if the current iPhone "normal" lens is 1X:
  • 0.75X wider, better for landscapes and group photos
  • 2X mid-range
  • 4X longer, better for nature and sports
I also think it's about time for a sensor bump in the 16-18MP range. This would mean you could crop a 0.75X photo to be a regular 1X photo at 12MP. The iPhone has been at 12MP since the iPhone 6s, though the iPhone did stay at 8MP for four generations (4s, 5, 5s, 6) so maybe not until next year.

It's too bad you can't customize the camera system on the iPhone when ordering. Each person has different types of things they like to photograph. I usually have my Sony a7R III on me, but sometimes I don't and my iPhone is better than nothing for getting the shot. Nowadays I mostly use it for tracking progress of projects I'm working on and photos of my kids that I post to a family photo stream.

Why is this paid advertisement on a Mac Rumors site ?
It’s one thing to do front page stories when a competitor releases a new product but front page stories for rumors of a competitors product? Really?

If the rumors about Apple's third camera are true, from their past changes you'll know it's there to have a function in the software, and it will be fully supported. Looking at Samsung's past, their third camera will kind of work but the software support will be lacking.

I made the switch from an iPhone 6S (last one with a headphone jack) to a Galaxy S9 as soon as the S9 came out and I've been super happy with the decision.

The reasons why I made the switch:
- the pricing of the iPhone X is ridiculous in Europe
- the iPhone X doesn't have a headphone jack (I use a headset at work and need to switch between my laptop and phone, so 3.5mm jack is a must)
- Apple says that it supports USB type-c, but all the iPhones still come with a lightning connector. Now I use my Macbook Pro type-c charger to charge both my phone and my laptop, no need to carry a type-c -> lightning cable

The only thing I'm worried about is Samsung's support for future OS's, as they have taken their sweet time to upgrade older phones to a new Android version (such as 7 Nougat -> 8 Oreo).

And this relates to triple rear cameras how?

Why is this article on this website? Does the author also post on Samsungrumors.com and misspost?

This site is constantly posting out of context articles. Either change the site name and ethos or stop with these articles.

I couldn't give a crap about Samsung, I don't buy their phones and have no interest. If I did I'd go to a Samsung site.

I disagree on "nothing too exciting when ti comes to hardware these days.." My non-partisan view is one of amazement at what has been accomplished in terms of technology miniaturization of mobile phones. This is where Apple has the clear lead -- a leadership driven by special-purpose silicon.

On your second part, "it will come down to software, performance, ..." I agree. But I disagree that Apple has a serious lead on all fronts, as Google is far from laying still, and they have demonstrable software skills, some unmatched by Apple.

Why are people crying about this? It's clear cameras are probably the number 1 feature in a smartphone these days with all the pictures being posted on various social media to facilitate the narcissist's lifestyle image.

Cameras in cellphones has ALWAYS been the killer feature since voice calls. It’s been this way since Ericsson shipped a phone and camera adapter with the T68m (SonyEricsson rebranded after he merger for T68i), the trend began with the SE K750i and it’s been the hallmark ever since.

Blackberry tried segregating certain models for business without a camera stating security lol. That went well lol.

Not so. These articles are entirely in context as Samsung phones are the direct credible competitor to the iPhone. I used an iPhone for many years and recently switched to a Galaxy S8 and it is a mighty impressive phone with an incredible display, great camera and longer battery life between charges.

Kudos to Samsung for being able to engineer, build and release a new phone is a reasonable amount of time. By the time Apple releases something, it's old news. Maybe Apple should "hurry up".

Last time I checked, Apple was the first to put two lenses being one a Tele lens, and the first to put a 3D depth sensing powered by machine learning feature on a phone with the iPhone 7 Plus.

Samsung is not a “credible competitor” to Apple.

They don’t even have their own OS, AppStore, programming languages, SDK, WWDC, Apple Music, computers and their own OS to make everything, their own CPU cores, GPU cores, vídeo encoders/decoders, etc. etc. etc.

They make phones, but so does Xiaomi.

While the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ were only released nearly four months ago, rumors have already surfaced about the Galaxy S10 lineup.

galaxy-s9.jpg

Galaxy S9

Korean website The Bell today reported that Samsung plans to release a trio of new Galaxy S smartphones next year, including the Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10+, and a lower-priced version of the Galaxy S10. The latter device is expected to be the first-ever entry-level Galaxy S model, not a Galaxy A or Galaxy J model.

If that sounds familiar, it is because Apple is widely rumored to introduce a trio of new iPhones this September, including a second-generation iPhone X, a larger 6.5-inch version dubbed the iPhone X Plus, and a lower-priced 6.1-inch iPhone, with some but not all features of the iPhone X.

The report adds that the Galaxy S10+ will feature a triple-lens rear camera system and a dual-lens front camera system. The rear system is said to include the same 12-megapixel wide-angle lens and 12-megapixel telephoto lens as the Galaxy S9+, in addition to an all-new 16-megapixel 120º ultra-wide-angle lens.

Again, if that sounds familiar, it is because Apple is rumored to introduce at least one new iPhone with a triple-lens rear camera in 2019.

The standard-sized Galaxy S10 is expected to have a single-lens front camera and a triple-lens rear camera, while the entry-level Galaxy S10 is said to sport a single-lens front camera and a dual-lens rear camera.

Last week, The Bell reported that the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+ will feature an in-display fingerprint scanner, and possibly 3D facial recognition, similar to Face ID on the iPhone X. These would likely be the only biometric authentication options, as Samsung reportedly plans to exclude iris scanning on the devices.

Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+ at Mobile World Congress next February and release the smartphones in March.

I'm just pointing out cameras in phones have recently gotten good enough to really start to move the needle in the photo world. They aren't DSLRs, but they are getting close. Why people resist this like "3 cameras is too many" just baffles me. They will make it flow with the design, just like they did with 2.
