Yes I have no doubt that owning an IPhone again after 10 years has re sparked associations I had from when I lived in Houston
Even down to an old mistake that I was associated as the owner of a property I rented on an exclusive estate and emails addressed to Patricia have been resurrected and enquirer do I wish to sell my property LOL
Its not like the Iphone has been used in anger or even has the same apps or service provider (AT&T) and location wise could hardly be further from US shores Rome/London/Bangkok

I have always maintained that once the genie is out of the bottle its irrelevant how much, Android may get you pegged faster but it only took a couple of weeks before I was associated with my Iphone and the US where my most active use was in Rome for a week, so go figure LOL
I don’t think that would help with someone suffering from a form of rheumatism which is one of my issues with larger devices.
Yeah so do I but I suffer from multiple medical issues that effect my hand use and strength. Such issues as I have are not so uncommon when you get older. It seems some on this forum assume everyone interested in phones are young and have perfect hand use.
Actually people on these kind of forms are actually atypical users of phones, they don’t represent the typical user.

Well there are so many settings and combinations of settings for me to try first before I declare defeat.That’s usually how those things work
And right now I'm fine, so maybe the headaches I had earlier are residual effects of the assault on my sinuses yesterday and into the evening. It really should be completely illegal to burn leaves in this neighborhood, because the houses aren't far enough apart to support that practice.
I'll give the phone a fair chance. I'm home and free to web surf for the next half hour at least. Then I would like to pop outside and take some pictures. But I have to make sure my neighbor is done with his leaf burning. 😆
Right now the power company is out there digging some sort of trench. 🙄

Really? where are your stats for that?
Look end of the day, I get it, you don't like large phones, but as I said, you don't need to buy them either so no harm done? unless you're looking to ban large phones just because you don't like them and feel they shouldn't be available for anyone?

I've been using the s23u all day in varying lights today and it's been great BUT of course who knows if all the panels are the same throughout the world?

There should be some type of ordinance against burning leaves. I would imagine it could cause a lot of people with any type of lung condition problems. At least it should be done in an outdoor fireplace with a high chimney to at least put the smoke higher in the air so there is less chance of fumigating your neighborhood.
I hope the panel works out for you. I wish manufacturers would state or be more transparent about PWM and Dithering so you could know before you buy what you are getting instead of buy and hope for the best.

Please don't take this as a criticism because it's not (it's something I might say). Do you carry your Z fold 4 and a phone, I must admit, I would just be tempted to carry the one. There is a reason for my question, like you, I love tech, I have had a S23 Ultra in my basket for a couple of days, I really fancy a fold though. ATM I have an Apple iPhone 14Pro and am at half a mind that to get the S23U, wouldn't be a big enough change for me. I would love to wait for the Z Fold 5 and have seen lots of YT videos of it folding flat, I am not sure I have the patience.
There is of course the fact that I am heavily invested in a couple of late series Apple Watches, I really couldn't justify having the S23U and iP14Pro. Decisions, decisions.
BTW, love your camera comparisons.

I don't think these forums affect business decisions and trends of manufacturers across the board. Apple and Android OEM's have all made bigger phones as the years tick by. The iPhone 6s had a 5.5" screen or something like that and now the smallest iPhone 14 uses a 6.1" screen. iPhone mini is being phased out because of lack of sales and there was no mini Pro.
All of the OEM's including Apple reserve their best features and hardware for the largest phones and charge accordingly. Pro Max is not cheaper or the same price as the Pro and it usually has the best battery life of the two.
Personally because I use my phone a lot and for multiple uses the bigger the better. I remember when HP tried to make a 7" Android phone back many years ago and it was so huge. The appeal of foldable phones is having a screen like tablet in a smaller form factor.
I do understand that people would like to have a high spec smaller device and I don't see why manufacturers aren't capitalizing on that market. But I think the physics are part of it. The more features they pack into the phone the more demand on battery and it is a lot easier to make a bigger phone with a bigger battery with a bigger screen than a smaller phone with all the same features and battery life.
I do agree that Samsung is cheaping out on regular s23 and plus consumers and trying to push customers to the biggest and most expensive phone. There is no reason the s23 plus can't have the same camera system and screen tech that is in the Ultra and I would prefer the plus with a 6.6" flat screen and quad hd screen and better cameras over an Ultra. Even at the price point for the plus it could be done. Kind of greedy on Samsung part.
But I don't see the ultra as a bad phone or too big. It is the throw everything in phone. The toolbox phone that does everything and has everything. I don't think that Samsung could make a smaller Ultra without significant compromise.
Personally I don't get the big interest in foldable phones. I think the compromises made are way too much for me to ever even consider them. Plastic screen which would drive me nuts because it would be so easy to scratch. Glass scratches easy enough but plastic -forget it. A huge crease in the middle of the display would also drive me nuts. My ADHD would hyper focus on the crease and I would never enjoy the phone. Worse battery life. Worse cameras. Having to open the phone all the time to use it because the outer screen is too small. Bigger and bulkier than the ultra. No thanks. BUT I don't complain that Samsung seems hell bent on making foldables the new premium phone? I thought the ultra was expensive? It seems like Samsung will be pushing premium customer more and more to a fold and will at some point neglect the ultra.
Might as well just push for what you want rather than complain about a trend you can't control. People are not as receptive to criticism vs. saying there is still a market for a premium device in a smaller form factor. Maybe they could make a smaller Ultra one day? I bet it would be a big hit too because I bet a lot of people would like the same functionality of the ultra in a 6.1" phone.

LOL thats a pretty bold assumption there. I'm thinking most in here are in or around their 40's to 50's. I'm mid 40's and while I have large hands I've had many injuries through sports, weightlifting, and working in the field in construction when I was young. My hands are far from perfect and I deal with varying degrees of pain depending on what time of year it is. I DO however get what you are saying. You are right, most of us here are enthusiasts. However, the market is going to dictate what Apple, Samsung, Google, Oneplus, etc. do. If there is not a market for the larger devices, they would pull back from them and focus on a small to medium size device. The opposite has taken place due to strong demand and now they are all focusing on foldables either now like Samsung or in the near future (google and perhaps Apple). There are many excellent devices out there to meet your needs. My first choice would be the Pixel 7 which is smaller, the S23, or the iPhone 13 Mini or SE which are excellent devices if you are okay with iOS.
Surprisingly, the device I find easiest to use one handed is the Z Fold 4 due to how narrow the front is. It could also double as a mini tablet of sorts if bigger tablets are cumbersome for you to use.

This stuff tends to go in cycles. I remember the very first cell phone I had was a motorola flip. Amazing compared to the other larger phones of the day and then things kinda went large slab with keyboard until motorola brought out the razr and everyone reacted like it was the first time they'd seen a flip 🙂
At the moment, the compromises on the flip and fold are too great for me to live with, I'd rather have the ultra BUT if everything in the ultra was ported to the flip/fold then I'd have a really tough decision on my hands! Do I want small and easy to carry or basically a foldable tablet to replace both my phone and ipad?
All of these discussions are of course just "as we are now" right? because if things progress sufficiently, we'll probably just have AR/VR glasses instead of phones, desktops, etc. and after that? well we get more scifi I guess, implants etc.
My hope/wish for the zflip 5 is that they make the outer screen a LOT larger so it's truly useable to see notifications and react to some extent, plus of course, a killer camera system.
Yes to this! I'm 56 and I also lifted weights in my teens until 30 and then did landscaping work. I have a badly scarred and mangled hand which is why I don't photograph my hand holding my phones.
I'm lucky my surgeon was so skilled in putting me back together and that I retain use of all of my fingers. He wasn't too sure that would be the case. I told him to just do what he could and I'd do my best in physical therapy and accept whatever resulted with good grace. I got full use of my hand back as soon as the worst of the swelling went down! I didn't even need PT.
I was a kid in the 70's. Everyone was Kung fu fighting. 🤣 And riding bikes without helmets. And doing all sorts of crazy stunts.
I'm an adorable little potato according to my family, but I'm also a thoroughly mashed potato!
Oddly enough it's not my crashing my body into things that's done me in. It's autoimmune disease. I'm thinking it's modern living and exposure to environmental toxins to thank for that.

Been seriously considering a Fold for the same reason. Love my 13 mini and the Fold is about the same width when shut. I also like the Xperia 5 series for the same long, skinny look that the closed Fold has. Wish more manufacturers would experiment with 21:9 and similar ratios. My little thumbs only stretch so far.
My S23 Ultra just arrived. I’m glad I went with the cream color!

Google Fi says March 3rd - 9th but if I bought one today it says Feb 22- March 9th.
I don't know why my delivery date is pushed out so far. All these pictures and experiences are not helping my patience.
Honestly though I am happy to see everyone's choices and colors. It is nice to see them in person. More pictures of the phones would be appreciated. The sides too.
I hope everyone that has one enjoys it and it lasts them a long time with no problems!!
I have to say real world pictures look a lot different than what I have seen. It is really great to see what these actually look like.

I'm definitely looking forward to testing out my 23 Ultra. After seeing reviews on Youtube and seeing peoples comments in this thread, I have more confidence that the battery life will be good. Can't wait to get my red S23 Ultra 😍

It's crazy, I've longed for a wider exterior display and I do hope they go a little bit wider but not to the point it sacrifices how comfortable it is to use when closed. Ive kind of flipped my thinking from before. It's just really easy to use closed and easily pocketable unless wearing skinny jeans which id never even consider.
