I would also hope this thread doesn't turn this into an Apple vs Samsung/Android debate. People have their preference.

I've no problem with Android. I've a problem with Samsung. It's clear they didn't act appropriate here and I no longer trust what they say or what they make. Internal docs leaked early on showing they cut corners to rush this to market to beat iPhone 7 to store shelves ignoring safety concerns. And when the issue blew up as it were they even then never acted. Very dodgy behaviour from a CE maker. Deplorable and unforgivable.

Even the Galaxy Note 2 from 2012 is a better pocketable version of iPad Pro which is better than iPhone 7 Plus.

I believe their brand has been damaged for good. Imagine a Mom with a newly born picking out her next smartphone.

Husband: "Shall we get the Samsung, the LG, the iPhone or the Google phone? I think we should get the Samsung, I hear they fixed the issue where you wake up surrounded by smoke."

Wife: "Pardon?"

You may very well be correct. It will be interesting for sure to see how all of this plays out in the long run, and how exactly this fiasco will influence consumer behaviour.

EDIT: Some words.

Ignoring all the jokes and whatnot, this is actually a pretty big deal. Good thing Samsung are taking action, but one has to wonder whether it's too late. From a PR standpoint, that is. Obviously it's bad, but how bad, only time will tell I guess.

Good thing is that the material damages, while substantial, haven't been any more severe.
You're right, it IS a big deal especially for us Apple shareholders. ;-) Y E S !!

Shame. I'm all for competition so this makes me worry for Samsung's future. Heck, in my Health Econ class today my prof slid an exploding Samsung joke into the lecture.

I'm quite certain that if you did some research you would discover it's not that bad. Samsung Mobil is one of over 40 different divisions of Samsung. Unlike Apple, Samsung is far more diverse, and has the ability to recover from this within a year. Fix whatever the issue/issues are. Slow down, improve how your Teams Communicate with each other. No more Engineers sleeping in their office to meet impossible deadlines (Biggie Here.) Release basically the same product designed correctly this time in 6-8m as the Note 8. :apple:

Yeah, maybe thats why they did this:
Samsung sells off shares as it deals with its exploding batteries crisis

There seemed to have been a very loyal Samsung following , maybe not as much as Apple but a lot of people were willing to give them a chance after the recall. When you screw with the loyalists, the day one folks its hard to recover from.

Instead of "beating" Apple to the market they might have given them a push.

Innovative? By becoming up in smoke?
It's got the best screen on the market. It's also got the nicest multitasking available in a smartphone (though this point may be considered subjective). Unfortunately it's also lighting on fire. Hopefully this st least translated to screens just as nice in future releases.

Um....has no one seriously said Firegate?

Oh did I just miss it.

Please tell me I missed it.

Seriously, I think those kinds of juvenile tropes are not the domain of Apple enthusiasts. And I don't think Samsung enthusiasts are willing to step up to that when it involves Samsung devices.
