Make that two mistakes (which on a technical level are very linked). It's still far too little data to draw any statistically meaningful conclusions for the whole company, a company with half a million of employees. If it makes you happy that you can predict the quality of all of Samsung's products from these two data points. If it makes you feel so smart and insightful, all the better for you. Strangely however that Samsung has operated for at least a decade in the (Western) public limelight and its poor QC only now struck in a such a forceful manner.

If you call not-jumping-to-conclusions-when-there-is-far-too-little-data-to-do-so ignorance, then I am indeed happy that have such 'ignorance' instead of phoney 'knowledge'. Adios.
Well, shave off enough corners and pretty soon you're left with nothing...poor quality control is exactly right. Release faulty phone, then release faulty replacement phone. It doesn't take much to figure out that is bad QC.

I didn't have to jump to any conclusions, Samsung did that for me by recalling their devices not once, but twice. Too little data? Haha that's funny because apparently it was enough data for Samsung to completely recall the phones. "Phoney knowledge" for the win. Hasta.

And in my opinion, the worst possible Cell Phone launch ever and even worse remedy to fix the issue.

If they would have been forward-leaning on this when it first broke, they could have avoided a TOTAL loss. They should have halted production immediately whilst the R&D worked on a quick remedy and released a quick release a few weeks later. 100% their fault for "hoping" this wouldn't grow into a mega mess.

I'd take my chances if they gave me one for free or $100. I'm tired of IOS and iPhones. I just hate android more. But yeah for $50 I'd gladly take one.

Simple, there are many members here whose own self worth seems to be directly tied to their choice of a consumer electronics product.

They've never accomplished anything on their own, so they are "winning" through their choice of a phone.

Truly bizarre behavior.
Ive accomplished quite a bit in my life and my self worth isn't tied to any company. I however don't have much respect for samsung and regret ever being a former fan of theirs and I do find a bit of twisted safisfsctiOn in this.

That being said if this was google I'd be even happier tbh

That is a dangerous assumption based essentially on a small sample of anecdotal evidence. You have no real data to backup that assertion.

I give up. If people feel able to judge the quality of thousands of component types made by a multitude of subsidiaries based on the behaviour of a single battery model, I cannot stop them. Feel free to live in your simplistic fantasy world where one describe a complex organism by observing a tiny element of it.

I'm a complex organism. I have a small issue with my left ring finger. The muzzle of a 4kg rifle landed on the nails dead on so you can imagine the concentrated force. Broke the nails, had hairline fracture and pulled out the nails to stitch the nail bed. I have recovered fully. This injury is just a small (some would say insignificant) bump in my life. You wouldn't think it'll affect me. But guess what it affects my everyday life because of my finger's hypersensitivity and lower tolerances to pain.

Seems like a small part of my complex body eh? But sometimes the smallest part of you can affect you in ways unimaginable.

But the masses love mediocrity - almost everything that is the most popular, is average - that's quite often how it becomes popular. Samsung got there in the UK but offering the first iPhone clone that was cheaper for the mobile stores to sell - they just told customers "You can't afford the iPhone but you can get this phone and it does all the same things" - thats the exact language they used because the mobile phone stores over here made much more commision on Samsung devices than Apple.

Well, the masses love Apple too. Is that the point you are making here? Because it doesn't explain your earlier incredulity about the fandom. With the best will in the world, I don't think curved screens, Amoled displays or Samsung's perceived leadership in SSD technology means that it has rested on its laurels. Unlike Apple.

A bit of hyperbole in this. Resting on it's laurels means apple get's it right the first time out of the gate and improves upon it in subsequent releases. Samsung has shown what rushing a product to market can do. Better to take your time and do due diligence.

Personally, I'm not sure how anyone could take any satisfaction in people losing their jobs.

I still find it strange that anyone would have some sort of personal emotion about any company.

Yes it does. It is an excellent phone, ready any review, anywhere. The iPhone 7 and 7 Plus are the only devices that are even remotely close.

No, it doesn't.

It wins the 'spec battle', but that's not what makes a phone a phone.

I don't choose a car because it has 140hp vs. a competitor has 132hp. That's ridiculous. I care about how it feels. How the seats feel, how the gauges work, hatchback or trunk. Other things matter when everything is so similar.

iOS is so much better than Android, and that's the biggest reason why I wouldn't choose a Samsung phone.

I don't understand the diehard emotions sports fanatics have for various teams but to each their own.

They are probably unrelated, but good luck to Samsung to prove it.

Maybe, the lawsuit in question suggests this is an endemic problem effecting all phones that use a particular kind of battery, which Samsung itself designed. A problem that is compounded by certain phone designs that put pressure on the batteries and aggravate an internal short circuit in prone cells. Apparently this is 'The tip of the iceberg', and something Samsung chose to cover up even though it's known of the issue for some time. If that's true, this is a whole other world of pain for Samsung.
