Surprised I'm not seeing any "Samsung is doomed!" comments.

That's because:

1) Many people here say that Samsung doesn't sell that many Notes, compared to the hundreds of millions of other phones. If so, then this recall/stoppage actually affects a relatively small portion of their buyers.

2) Samsung's stock actually hit an all time high a few days ago, amid reports that this recall is forcing the incoming CEO (son of the founder) to possibly break up the company into several more manageable administrative pieces.

3) Analysts are pointing out that phones (Mobile comms below) have dropped from being the majority profit source for Samsung, while their other electronic divisions are doing well selling parts to everyone else:

So ironically, this could end up being good for Samsung in the long run. Weird, eh?

Which is, no doubt, why Cook is trying to push Apple into other fields, to provide a cushion for future decreasing phone sales.

From http://www.nytimes.com/2016/10/11/business/samsung-galaxy-note-fires.html?_r=0

"Samsung has temporarily halted production of the Galaxy Note 7, a person familiar with the decision said on Monday, amid reports that a number of the devices had caught fire."

And:

"Samsung made the decision to halt production for consumer safety reasons and in cooperation with the authorities in the United States and China, according to the person familiar with the process."

Seems pretty solid.

"In a disclosure to the South Korean stock exchange later Monday, Samsung said it was 'temporarily adjusting the Galaxy Note 7 production schedule in order to take further steps to ensure quality and safety matters.' It said it hoped to provide an update within a month."

Lol. Don't wait up.

Yes this is a lot more like it, an official statement from Samsung of as close as you'll get to one, thanks.

"temporarily adjusting the Galaxy Note 7 production schedule in order to take further steps to ensure quality and safety matters"

Does that mean they have stopped making them?

I haven't seen any reports of them burning down shipping company vehicles/planes, or sales locations. If that isn't happening, there is something seriously wrong with the power regulation in that phone. Well, or batteries from the source they are using are just total contaminated crap.

Tough blow...

That $5B hit can't be good new though.

When the battery problem first showed up I thought Samsung did an ok job notifying people and telling them a fix was on its way soon, which turned out to be the replacement phones. But ever since then it appears to have been an operation run by the 3 Stooges. You brought the original phone out too soon without proper testing, and then you repeat that mistake with the replacement phones. Not going to be a good year for Samsung's flagship phone.

?Network provider?
It's Samsung's own website that's not selling them.
Denial to the extreme.

This is like Whack-A-Mole
Every time you think there gone another pops up with some ridiculousness.
SMH

And what does Samsung not selling them have to do with this story of them stopping production then? Thankfully others on here understood my point and provided links to more official reports.

It would be strange to buy an iPhone instead of the Note 7, it would make much more sense to buy the new Google phone. Not that people make sense.

It's really not that strange at this point, is it? Tech geeks do not represent the majority of Samsung, Apple or anyone else's smartphone output at this point. Not by a long shot. 99% of people buying one aren't rooting it, installing xXx420WeedKillaxXx ROM from XDA or even doing much more than logging into their accounts, installing a few apps and games and forgetting about it

Samsung in deep ****

This is what happens when you knowingly and intentionally "steal" someone's design, and don't know how to properly troubleshoot or vet the internals. Samsung screwed up.
Samsung can make a phone, but when they steal a product, and don't have the engineers on staff to figure out how it all goes together, this happens. They tried, and failed.

There are some Note 7 owners who still want the phone despite the explosive issues, and somehow Apple users are the ones being called sheep

For those people the new new Samsung marketing strategy could be to market exploding and spontaneous combustion as features that Apple doesn't have lol:rolleyes::p

Heck they could also market to the military.
Samsung the portable explosive your enemies will never see coming especially if they're Samsung fans :p

Samsung isn't a single car. It's a huge fleet of cars, one flying off the road won't make too much of a difference.

And that said "car" that flew off could have hit any of their other cars in the huge fleet and cause even more damage. To say that phone sales is no longer their biggest income and that this issue is just a minor bump is ridiculous. Ever heard of the butterfly effect? Given that the faulty batteries came from Samsung SDI their own subsidiary, this will cause harm not just to their phone business but even their parts business. If I'm a businessman looking to obtain parts from Samsung I will now think twice because their QC seems screwed. If they can screw up their own flagship, there's a chance they'll screw up the parts they supply me too.

if u wanna believe that.

Just because a car catches fire doesn't mean u stop making it.. Like any company their would loose sales even more if they just stopped making this phone... Why would they do that over something just as something that can happen to anything that is done properly ?

Samsung is just using the media as bait ..currently

Apparently people who are willing to keep using their Note 7's...

And some people choose to continue smoking a pack or three a day.

They only banned it in cabinet meetings. There's a reason why people always read the entire headline and not the 1st couple of words.

And that's along with every other cell phone at cabinet meetings.

What is ironic was that there were people who were in denial and blatantly claiming that Samsung's "swift and decisive recall" would improve their reputation and standing in the smartphone industry.

Time ultimately shows the true nature of a man. Or company.

If the replacement phones were ok, it would have.

Rumors say if you get close enough to Samsung's HQ you can hear the sound of blades shaping for the imminent executions.
You must be joking. They'll only be busy making up excuses and blaming suppliers or Apple. You must have noticed how they were going full steam ahead shipping "replacements" hoping no one would notice what the burning smell was.
Samsung's whole shtick is selling knock offs on street corners that look like stuff you're familiar with and appear to work long enough for them to run away.

I think everyone will forget about the Note 7 issues in a month or so. No one outside of the internet really cares. If this happened to Apple then the company would be a smoking crater already and there would be congressional hearings that Tim Cook would be forced to attend. Samsung will make it out of this just fine.
It is on the news everyday and even my technically challenged family which do not even know how to even turn on a phone know about it and my paranoid relatives would never want one now even other brand phones because of Samsung fire issues they would now think all phone are unsafe. They still pay bills in the mail and order stuff over the phone this is going to be annoying now for me saying don't get a phone they will burn your house down. Thanks for nothing Samsung.

Update 2: Samsung has said it is "temporarily adjusting the Galaxy Note 7 production schedule in order to take further steps to ensure quality and safety matters". The company said it hoped to provide an update within a month.

What ? Does that mean they are still going to release this thing for a 3rd time ?
