You need an IR blaster for this? I use my iPhone XS as a remote to my TV without an IR blaster. Maybe this is for older televisions?
Exactly. Give that man a coconut. I have Sky boxes that don't have WiFi. What is the problem with that?

Must be awesome, wireless charging your phone with lightning Earpods connected to your Ears. I'd actually pay to see that figure.
Exactly. Some people post the most ridiculous stuff.

They post whatever it makes them feel their argument is right when it isn't. That's what fanboyism can reach.

Big deal. I couldn't care less what used to be on Galaxy phones. IR Blaster is a very useful feature found on many phones.
Right. But it is indicative of the thought process of Samsung Mobile, whether you personally care less what used to be on Galaxy phones. (As an aside all of my home theater stuff is relatively new and is CEC enabled and I use apps to control the equipment)

What is the problem with IR Blaster. I have an IR Blaster on my Huawei P20 Pro phone. It allows me to control stuff from my phone if I haven't got the remote to hand. Excellent facility.
isn't it obvious, the iPhone doesnt have one, therefore by default, it's a naff rubbish function!!!! until of course Apple copies it, and its the best thing since sliced bread..

Quoting you
"Samsung throws tech into the phones without any real purpose. IR Blaster anyone?" implies that you consider IR Blaster tech with no purpose. That is a very arrogant stance. Plenty of people have devices which are older and where there is no utility in upgrading them. The fact that your equipment doesn't require IR control is of no interest to people whose equipment does.
I am glad that some companies manufacture equipment which is beficial to users and not just provide
".... some integration into the ecosystem"

Did the ir blaster survive to live another day? The answer is no. So instead of saying i7guy is arrogant you should be saying Samsung is arrogant because they are not listening to their customers. My opinion of the ir blaster is taking a cue from the current lineup, which do not have one. Therefore, Samsung throws hardware into their phones without any real purpose. IR blaster anyone. Nice try on a deflection.

You picked on the headphone jack? Okay. As far as Samsung pay vs apple pay, every place I shop takes apple pay. Maybe where you live is different, but here on the east coast, even the mom and pop shops support apple pay...most new terminals support apple pay, required due to chip/pin.
[doublepost=1552163214][/doublepost]
Whats wrong with lightning connected earpods? That's a common pedantic question about keeping a phone charged while using earpods? I dunno, wireless charging? I actually have airpods, much more flexible.

As far as NFC, do we need to make a list?

3d touch, there is no rumor that this great feature will not be carried forward.
i picked on the headphone jack? plz explain more what you mean

i live in manhattan, mom and pop shop does not support apple pay, i live on the upper east side so im surrounded by mom and pop shops. but many do take credit cards and when there is a credit card swiper you can you samsung pay. apple's nfc implantation is pretty limited compare to android.

(As an aside is used to live on 70th and 2nd) Any new nfc terminal that accepts chip and pin I have found accepts apple pay, even in Manhattan. So you and must be going to different Mom and pop stores, if there are any of those even left. Even the big holdout target/cvs is now accepting apple pay. I guess individual experiences vary and that the expression of YMMV is always the case.

And about that headphone jack. What about it? Apple removed it and it stayed removed. Other vendors removed it. Samsung removed it and put it back.

I do not understand what you mean by this
"Did the ir blaster survive to live another day? The answer is no"

IR Blaster did survive. It is very useful and I am sure that Huawei are not the only ones to provide its facility, for people wishing to control equipment with IR.
I am not defending Samsung for not continuing to provide IR Blaster. My son who has an S9 was very annoyed that his phone couldn't be used like mine when one of our Sky remote controls stopped working. IR Blaster is a very useful feature in smartphones.

What does that mean? I cannot get any sense of what you are saying with that statement?

The IR blaster is not an option on the s10. I can't make the post any clearer.
[doublepost=1552176034][/doublepost]
Did they? I don't recall a Galaxy S range ever having the headphone jack removed. Please confirm which one.
Your right, they removed it on the A8, as in the headliner first post. They may put it back it should have read....who knows.

Apple doesn't throw it, until it does. Live photos, anyone? 3D touch touch anyone???
IR Blaster is useful, I still use it on my S6 to control my TV when I can't find the remote. Headphone jack still used by the majority of the Audio Industry.
I used to the IR blaster on my Note 4/Note Edge all the time to control my TV/stereo. It was nice having one remote to control everything, even my Apple TV. Unfortunately, the app (can't remember the name of it now) got so full of ads and using the old ad free version got disabled forcing an update to the adfest garbage so I quit using the remote. I still have both of those Note phones today and they still work.

Samsung did some great things over the years.

The fact that Samsung did not include an IR Blaster on their recent phones is irrelevant to the usefulness of the feature.

Does the fact that Apple dropped 3D Touch from their phone most recently put on sale reduce the relevance of that feature?

And Samsung did not remove the headphone jack from the Galaxy A8.

Which flagship phone was 3d dropped? (Hint xr is not a flagship)

Pedantic because I didn't put the "s" in there?

Samsung has not dropped the headphone jack from any of it's current or previous line up.

Edit - I take it back, the A8S does not have a headphone jack. Apologies.

The A8 as you say it's also not a flagship.
See how arguments turn tables?

Again What is your fascination with Samsung?IR Blaster is tech with a real purpose.

I never said anything about Apple flagship phones. I said the most recent phone put on sale. And by some accounts, the currently highest selling phone.

There is nothing pedantic about descriminating between A8 and A8s. They are different phones. One is sold worldwide, the other a special for Asian markets. Is descriminating between iPhone X and iPhone Xr being pedantic? They are very different phones.

Nope, because this is not my article. It’s Macrumors article. Take it up with the editorial staff.

Apple has had mid-tier phones since the 5c. It's no secret to have a mid-tier phone every flagship feature isn't included. But I guess Samsung thought the headphone jack (and IR blaster) isn't that important to their customers, who swear by it.

You're asking the wrong question. You should be asking Samsung why they deleted a useful feature.

Apple does not include flagship features on non-flagship phones. And yes, you were being pedantic based on a typo, the very definition of pedantic actually.

And yes not understanding there is a fundamental difference between the x/xs/xr is purposefully putting your head in the sand.

So you actually meant to type A8s but incorrectly typed A8? Really?
Pointless continuing corresponding with you.

Stop with your nonsense lol.
You claim Apple can take features from their mid tier devices yet Samsung can't? They took it from the A8 as an experiment and users reacted bad. Guess what? It's still on their flagships with bigger batteries and the same screen size as your beloved iPhone XS Max.

Please stop. If I were you I would be embarrassed. This isnt my article, it’s macrumors. I’m just noting the two faced company that Samsung is. At least apple puts a line in the sand and sticks with it.

Apple so Noble xoxoxo Samsung bad guy pew pew.
This is what your comments sound like to be honest.

Whether you want to continue to correspond or not I don't give a ****. Samsung is two faced and you are being pedantic. They are two faced because 1) they mocked Apple and then did exactly what they mocked and 2) they throw hardware in and out without regard to how their user base feels about it. At least apple sticks to their guns.
