They don't know me very well at all. If Samsung and Apple won't allow me to use my wired high quality Sennheiser headphones, then I'll move on to LG or whomever continues to support high quality sound technology. Bluetooth isn't that, yet. The headphone jack isn't a floppy drive - it's a professional standard in the sound / music industry. Floppies were dropped when booting and storing data on optical drives were becoming standard; PS2 mouse connections and serial RS232 ports were dropped when USB became ubiquitous and orders of magnitude superior. Apple dropped the headphone jack in order to sell their own bluetooth accessories. An unfortunate side effect is that other manufacturers have become accustomed to copying Apple - even when Apple's design decisions were flawed. Meh.

Another smart ass with the same old boring and ignorant response. If I want to listen to a high end IEM or headphones, I’ll do so from whatever source I want. Out of an iPhone my IEMs are still going to sound 10 times better than any current Bluetooth headphones. Yes it will upscale with a better source but for convenience I can have hifi in my shirt pocket.

So defensive, calm down it’s a fair comment.

If you want to predict Samsung's futuristic implementations 2 years from now, look back to Apple's implementations from 2 years ago.

- Confucius
you got it back wards, wanna look at apples future? look at samsungs past, thats literally been apples update for the past 2 years, oled, full screen phone design, wireless charging, fast charging, etc.

That's actually fairly ironic. Oled has been around since 1989 and Samsung didn't invent that. Wireless charging (not Qi) has been around since the 1960s in electric toothbrushes. You might as well say, Samsung copied the wifi chip, it's just a piece of hardware. Apple seemingly was waiting for the airpower before they released wireless charging for the iphone 8.

if we going by that standard, then apple didn't invent the first touch screen phone, nor various of other things

also i didn't say invent, phone companies nowadays merely adopt existing tech into their portfolio.

You made an implication by mentioning hardware that no smartphone company invented. Using that benchmark you can include Bluetooth, arm chips, camera sensors etc.

Standard headphones using a 3.5mm jack run a standard analog signal. This means devices have to turn the digital files like MP3's into analog internally, this is done with a digital-to-analog converter. ... The Lightning port however is 100% digital, meaning audio is sent to the headphones in pure digital form.

So you’re saying that because the audio is sent in ‘pure digital form’ the sound coming from lightning port is superior to the 3.5mm jack? ‍♂️

you cannot hear digital.

There is a DAC required in every scenario. for Lightning headphones, the DAC is in the headphones themselves, instead of the reverse for 3.5mm jack (the DAC is in the phone)

but being digital is irrelevant. Since it STILL requires conversion before hitting the drivers.

The longer an analog signal travels the more noise potentially that can be picked up. The closer the speak to the DAC is better as there is less chance of noise being picked up. Of course noise can affect a digital signal and if overpowering sounds like drop-outs.

again i didnt say invent. please go back and read the original premise. what i meant is samsung adapt tech faster than apple for number of years now.

This I agree with. Samsung throws tech into the phones without any real purpose. IR Blaster anyone? Headphone jack in or out? Apple doesn't seemingly throw hardware into a phone without some integration into the ecosystem.

Apple doesn't throw it, until it does. Live photos, anyone? 3D touch touch anyone???
IR Blaster is useful, I still use it on my S6 to control my TV when I can't find the remote. Headphone jack still used by the majority of the Audio Industry.
Now let me pay back in the same coin to you. Your argument is stupid, uninformed and you're obviously trolling.

oh please!

Earpods connected to the phone (lightning port) - how do you manage to charge the phone at the same time? what kind of ****** integration was this?

nfc in iphone vs. nfc in android. what can you do with nfc in iphones and what cant you do with nfc in android?

how about 3D touch? it came and apparently going - if anyone even noticed it was there...

and ir blaster was great in the past - an universal remote with an app rather than buying a separate universal remote control. even nowadays there are phones sold with ir blaster.

your got to be kidding me. without real purpose? i would still very much like a headphone jack since one of my car doesnt have bluetooth, only an aux port. so when i drive that car to work i can either choose A)charge phone, or b)listen to music.

Ir is really useful if you have a smart tv with a dumb remote. instead of clicking through letters i can just type it on my phone.

also samsung pay is MILES BETTER than apple pay, when i had my s6 i i can use samsung pay where ever credit card is accepted, you just hold the phone next to the swipe slot and it works!

You picked on the headphone jack? Okay. As far as Samsung pay vs apple pay, every place I shop takes apple pay. Maybe where you live is different, but here on the east coast, even the mom and pop shops support apple pay...most new terminals support apple pay, required due to chip/pin.

Whats wrong with lightning connected earpods? That's a common pedantic question about keeping a phone charged while using earpods? I dunno, wireless charging? I actually have airpods, much more flexible.

As far as NFC, do we need to make a list?

3d touch, there is no rumor that this great feature will not be carried forward.

Must be awesome, wireless charging your phone with lightning Earpods connected to your Ears. I'd actually pay to see that figure.

What is the problem with IR Blaster. I have an IR Blaster on my Huawei P20 Pro phone. It allows me to control stuff from my phone if I haven't got the remote to hand. Excellent facility.

You need an IR blaster for this? I use my iPhone XS as a remote to my TV without an IR blaster. Maybe this is for older televisions?

I wonder which is less distracting, a notch against the top edge, or a round hole in the corner?
Probably you quickly get used to either, but I would suspect the odd bit of light all the way around the lens might be a bit more distracting, but only a bit.

I was just thinking about this. I guess since the notch is at least in the center the notch would be less distracting.
