They do give people a free chance to try their phones and truly know how much it really sucks and how badly they will hate it. It looks like a smart move, but it is not. It's like a Korean car company offering a Porsche owner a free trial time, and we can guess how it will end. But I admit that it is an innovative move:)
Did you just compare iPhone to Porsche? IPhone is like a car with automatic transmission, not manual and Porsche is all manual. You understand the comparison now, right?

Please no! You think Google doesn't respect your privacy? Their new TVs are insane.. they aren't "smart" TVs. They are creepy TVs said:
I couldn't believe Samsung's TV terms of agreement. what are they thinking!

What an awesome promotion!

They allowed approximately 1 dozen people to try each new phone for $1!
Lol. I was disappointed to see the Note 5 was not available at any carrier just now.

I have an Apple Watch and I love Apple service and support, so I would not want to switch permanently but I've always thought the Note series was an attractive premise. I liked it in the stores and would not mind trying it for a month. But I am Denied!

I had to chuckle when I saw this promo. I actually switched to the S6 a few months ago when my iPhone 6 plus became a hassle to carry around. Didn't care too much for the UI or google play, and the iPhone just felt more premium and comfrtable in my hand. Nail in the coffin for the Galaxy was realizing that I couldn't use Apple's music app anymore, which admittedly has become cluttered over the years, but still my favorite way to listen to music and seamless when it comes to syncing from my macbook. So I returned the S6 and bought a regular iPhone 6, and quickly realized hey it actually fits in my pocket, been content every since. :D
Let's see.. you like Apple Music and it was the nail on the coffin because Galaxy didn't have it. That's like saying you won't like iPhone because google music is not on Iphone. Thank you for your unbiased opinion.

Looks like Samsung is just copying Apple again. Apple promo from '84 or so.

Haha except like 99% of Porchse's come with PDK now and not manual. Cars are too fast for a manual gearbox. So if your saying iPhone is automatic, an iPhone must be faster.

Oh boy... Here come the spec sheets! :D

My point was... a new iPhone comes out in a month. iPhones tend to sell in huge numbers immediately.

Samsung is basically throwing a hail-mary pass right before an iPhone launch trying to get people into a Samsung.

I hope, for their sake, they sign up a lot of people soon. Because the closer we get to an iPhone launch... and for many months after... Apple sucks all the oxygen out of the room.

BTW... don't you think it's funny that Samsung phones have all those amazing features you listed... yet their sales are struggling?

Clearly those features aren't the magic bullet you think they are.

The Note is clearly a geek phone series, targeted at power users wanting the all the possible features. This is why it doesn't sell in as high quantities as the much simpler iPhone. Never ever in history did "geek" stuff sell as well as stuff targeted at Average Joes.

fairly useless features like 4K recording when virtually no one has a 4K TV,

Now virtually anyone can purchase it now that their price has plummeted. And, again, shooting 4k video of family events etc. is future proof - like it was the case in the SD vs. 720p case.

slow inefficient wireless charging

Absolutely wrong. I have two Qi devices (a Note4 with its official Qi case and a Nexus7 2013) with a cheap Qi pad. They charge very quickly.

and ooohh wow the jewel on the crown, the feature we've all been waiting for - being able to take front facing and backward facing photos at the same time..... o_O

Still, the AppStore is full of fake* dual shooter apps, so, there are a lot of iPhone users wanting that feature...

*: Fake means they can't shoot dual video and, of course, they can only shoot still with some 0.5-1s difference between the two images.

If Samsung can make its Android OS stable, then it's a good possibility of many people to possibly move to its Samsung Android phones. Despite the hardware features, the Android OS is still buggy and lacking in ease of use. The average person doesn't want to fiddle around with apps but want an OS that's stable and easy to use, which iOS is, for the most part. iOS 8.x still is very buggy for many iPhone users!

bickering aside and out of topic rants and whiney bitching, important question:

do they actually put a $700-$800 hold on your card? If it's really $1 charge, I'm tempted, but not with several hundreds on hold.

Ultimately, it doesn't matter. Most people are so ingrained in their ecosystem of choice right now, it doesn't matter if it's a Jesus phone or not (and the Note 5 comes very close to being that).

They charge you $1 and the whole amount is held on your CC meaning your available balance goes down by the amount of the full priced phone.

Or, they're confident that when people try the new phones, they will like them.

They're simply removing the barrier of entry - and there are plenty of people who would consider switching, but can't be bothered with the effort or expense... this might motivate them to do so.

Besides, if only 5000 actually make the switch that's still $4Million in sales for them. Seems smart.
Not is they send out 1 million devices and 995000 are returned to be sold as refurbs. Then they lose about ~300 million....
