Very on Topic ;p it's about Samsung trying to win over customers :p

Haven't spent much time with the G4, other than 10 minutes at a showroom. And haven't obviously touched the 2015 Nexus 5 year.

The G4, with leather back felt good in hand. Very good screen, though, still not on par with the S6. My problem with it is size. most devices over 5" are just way too uncomfortable for me to use. Couldn't last more than a week with the Note 4 cause of the size.

Would love to see a 4.7 -> 4.9" flagship phone again. one designed more with small borders like the S6 than that of the iPhone (which despite 4.7" screen, is nearly identical dimensions to the 5.1" S6)

My wife got the LG G3 - she loves it. She had a very buggy HTC One X - and it wasn't holding a charge. I've played a bit withe her LG G3 and it's a beautiful phone. I don't think the LG G4 is a huge upgrade from that - but obviously I would be buying the latest.

A lot of my usage is the camera. Here's where I admit to getting suckered into features. I love all the things Samsung's software (and hardware) can do in regards to photography - but... I most often just snap in auto mode and shoot videos. So all the "extras" are nice to have on the rare occasion (I've used HDR a few times0) but they often tip the scale for me even though I don't use them LOL

The screen is always important. But that really comes more into play if you're doing a side by side comparison between phones.

So I guess the LG G4 isn't "out" completely for me. I just am more likely to stay in the Samsung camp given it's just easier to transition. Who knows... I might impulse buy next month lol

Samsung has been kicking ass this year. The new edge, waterproof, wireless charging, better screen, better camera, and now this promotion which is signing up a lot of MacRumors users/lurkers.

This is coming from an Apple Fanboi. I hope Apple steps it up because what Samsung is putting out in the market is quality and comparable to the iPhone.

The hardware is impressive indeed. Too bad they've just ruined it with the software. If they released a version running stock Android, I'd be really tempted to try it out.

Really? You think Apple didn't go after Microsoft? Maybe you missed the whole I'm a Mac, I'm a PC campaign. If that wasn't fighting over marketshare with Microsoft, I really don't know what is. And the point is a combination of the three. It's not one vs all the others. Not in good business anyway.

I think Apple was simply trying to sell their products... not necessarily gain market share.

Apple is a single company who sells rather expensive computers... while the rest of the market is made up of dozens of companies like Dell and HP who sell rather inexpensive machines.

Of course Apple would have low market share. They're a boutique brand.

The PC market is huge... at the time representing over 100 million units shipped in a single quarter.

Apple's best quarter ever was 5 million Macs. Apple was never a volume computer manufacturer.

And they weren't trying to be one either.

"Thank you for your interest. Due to the overwhelming demand, we are temporarily out of test drive phones. Please keep checking back for available phones."

The are asking for you to either call or email them with your name, email address and phone number.

Missed opportunity. That's what happens when you work late and sleep until noon.

One of the things that keeps me Android is being able to have control over default apps. That alone, for me is huge.
I see your point but a JB iPhone can do this too.

Im trying out the edge first. Been with iPhone since 07 and tired of it.

STOP.

Update: Website changed. The number to call and the email to email has been removed.

I prefer not to tinker with my phones - IE jailbreak for this type of functionality. There are several other things I like about the Android platform that keep me coming back. There are things on iOS that do the same.

It's the network not the phone do your neighbors also have Verizon?

If so I'd say Verizon isn't capable of handling your phone

If they don't have Verizon that would just hammer home my point and opinion of Verizon sucking

They do have Verizon, and an older android device, husband on the original Moto X and wife is using the new Galaxy S6. Not trying to defend Verizon, they do suck.

If it's a network issue, than the Airport Extreme fails miserably when I'm on wifi with Siri.

The posts are on topic. You aren't a moderator. If you don't like what you're reading, you're free to click out of the thread.

You have to be kidding. You guys are debating about phones, iOS vs. Andriod. Clearly thats not the thread title.

I want to follow the thread, recieve and give updates. Which is very had to do when you are debating jailbroken iOS devices versus Android.

Looks like people like the idea of switching!!!

Umm, the message you quoted from me was about Samsung devices, the very same phones the campaign in the topic is trying to sell to iPhone users. I don't think a discussion about the general appeal of Android to iOS users is totally out of place in a thread where we are discussing an Android maker trying to lure iOS users to their camp.

Or... people like the idea of playing with a phone for $1 for 30 days. No commitment.

We'll see if they actually "switch" after 30 days.

I saw this article on MacRumors and Engadget. Tech blogs. Did this news also reach the mainstream media? I've read more than one comment on this forum saying they will be using the Samsung phone until their new iPhone ships. So like I asked earlier... how many of these units are going to people just for poops-and-giggles?

And how many units did Samsung offer for this test drive? These are their brand new phones. Flagship models. They probably aren't sending out millions of these phones just so they can be sent back and turned into refurbished models.

"Due to overwhelming demand" sounds great as a headline... but not if they're only talking about 10,000 units.

I tried a Galaxy S6 and returned it after a couple of weeks. It was initially good, but over time I got annoyed with a few things, especially the phone constantly searching for GPS. The only way to stop it was to turn Google Now virtually off.

Seems like a good strategy to me. It won't pull away people that are happy with their iPhone's, but it might tempt those that are considering a switch. Giving a free trial has the potential to overcome some of the stickyness associated with changing device manufacturer. Because Apple has so many additional services, that integrate well with their phones, this stikyness is quite strong with Apple.

Anything that has the potential to keep Apple on their toes is good by me.

It's not exactly "free"

At any rate I'm going to sit back and wait for the following headlines
( or least thread post ) :

"Samsung sees mass trial returns in poor condition. Trial not according to plan"

Or

"Mass unreturned devices reports Samsung! Thousands lost on non payments millions lost attempting to collect fees from "problem" trial device users"

And I'll get some chuckles :D:p:rolleyes:

I really feel like Samsung isn't really focused on what's hurting them. Imo it isn't as much iPhone as is the multitude of android phones, cheaper than the galaxy phones yet offer close to similar functionality. They spend so much money and time on comparing to iPhone. It hasn't worked. iPhones are selling at record pace and now the likes of Motorola, lg, one plus etc are hurting Samsung imo

Let's be honest anymore most of what Samsung does proves they are wearing massive blinders.

The focus is fight Apple fight Apple fight Apple no one else matters only defeat Apple and all will be well keep trying things till we beat Apple
