I still stand by what I said.

I also find it rather problematic... but the inconvenience isn't that dissimilar from the notch (ie a split information band at the top) :D.
Anyway perhaps the real fundamental design problem might simply be the whole concept of the thing from the beginning...

Since Apple products are theoretically supported for so long, why would one care about a high resale value?

I’m an Apple user, dude. I was responding to the “souless” comment. Samsung’s competition if good for everyone.

Why wouldn't you care about resale value?! If you decide to upgrade the hardware, you can do so for a lot less.

Only issue i have is i look at the ultra and think god my iphone design wise looks so outdated. The fact note 21 might have under display camera next year and we may see the iphone have the notch for at least the next 2-3 years.

I've been using Samsung Galaxy devices since Apple came out with the (disappointing to me) iPhone 5.

Yes, Sammy has gimmick features. Who doesn't (even FaceID is a gimmick made necessary by removing TouchID)?

But what drove me to them was flexibility, and truly useful features not present in iPhone.

This is true even today, even if Apple and the rest of the industry have closed the gap.

It never was about money either, as I don't pay for my phone (my company gives me a choice: Apple or Samsung).

I'm looking to switch back to iPhone due to me replacing my Macs with an iPad Pro, and wanting the consistency in operation, ecosystem, etc. It's just...simpler.

But there are features I will miss when I give up my Note 8.

Resale value is great but if you are keeping your device 2-6 years chances are most won’t sell it anyway. They will pass it onto a family member. A lot of People keeping their phones for a long period of time don’t really care about tech in the first place.

Your anecdotes are different from my anecdotes. Most people I know sell their device yearly/every 2 years and then upgrade.

Do they all come with ads backed in the stock apps? lol Just wait two or three weeks and they will be BOGO or discounted by 600-700 dollars. As always, flashy hardware but no real integration or soul.

Pretty sure the Note 20 non ultra has a plastic back.
Well I'll be damned... finally found a proper spec sheet and see that they switched to poly carbonate (fancy plastic) backs on the lower model. Bad form Samsung. For $1k phone, that needs to be glass.
Previous models were glass with the exception of the budget version Note 10 Lite.

The iPhone 11 Pro Max was better a year ago than the Note 20 Plus is now.
The Apple Watch Series 5 a year ago is better than that new Galaxy Watch 3 now.
The iPad Pro is light years ahead of the S7+.
The Galaxy Buds Live seem like they might give Apple a run for its money on headphones but the design is polarizing.

The event releases are standard and not threatening with the notable exception of the Fold 2, which is (to obvious indicators and not counting patents which may never come to market) years ahead of Apple’s efforts. Deeply flawed though Gen 1 was, if Samsung is able to perfect the reliability to the degree they have perfected the design, Apple will be behind the curve on the market for foldable on a significant basis. At least it adds some ooh and aah to the event, I hope Apple isn’t as boring this year as the awkward “end iPhone event almost thirty minutes early with no one more thing” event they did last September...

Maybe software wise but hardware wise the note 20 ultra blows the 11 pro out of the water and will do the same with the iPhone 12 pro as well. The fact we aren’t getting 60hz on the 12 pro is very frustrating. It does feel like apple are always 2-3 years behind android’s hardware. The software is what makes the iphone a great buy that’s for sure. However all signs points to a boring upgrade. So much that the 12 will be a better buy than the 12 pro line.

agree the Apple Watch and IPad are ahead of the galaxy watch and tab S7 but both are still great options for those with samsung devices.

Galaxy Watch 3 with sleep tracking, ECG support, and blood pressure readings.

Oh! I still crave for a Round Apple Watch, I know a lot of people hate it over here but if the day comes that Apple would offer two different design choices, I'd pick that one up in a heartbeat.

Wait, is it just me or does it seem like Samsung releases 10 phones a year?
Close... two Galaxy S models, two Note models, and then a few low/mid range budget phones. A Series are pretty decent for the money. M series are garbage.
And of course the two foldables.

I gotta admit, they fully owned all the issues. They even included a JerryRigEverything quote in there!

I think the Fold 2 is still not quite there, but wow what a major improvement from the original (and revamped) Fold. If they continue on this trajectory, they may actually invent a foldable phone that the masses would actually buy.

They mentioned during the presentation that people use the fold 50% of the time folded - hence the importance of the front display. This is not surprising in itself but I'd be really interested in having more extensive data on usage : for what type of use users bother to open it. For example, I don't feel that the folding screen's aspect ratio is particularly amenable to video consumption vs. a similarly tall, slightly larger and much thinner, regular non folding phone. But it might be pretty nice for other use cases (reading a book ? surfing the web ?).
