“Meanwhile, iOS features like crash detection have been credited with saving lives”

LOL god, that’s Apple marketing in full force.

Where’s your data to back that up?

A quick google search turns up multiple articles.

This is Apple’s take on innovation. Features that don’t necessarily make for great tech demos or blog articles, but just work in the background. Rather than gimmicks that exist just for the sake of being first.

I know which one I would rather have.

Live translation with AI .... cool. "Make my emails sound more professional" .... not cool. Last think I want is a person who can't form complete sentences in person, sounding like a scholar when emailing a resume to me. I need this just about as much as I need the AI photos popping up everywhere. We thought the filter photos were bad, now we have people living in dreamland. I saw someone I've known for years post a new profile pic generated from AI. If anything it made me feel bad for her as AI presented her in a way she may never be able to attain, but will now be forced to compare herself to. Sad really. Rant over.... cool phone, but I'll stick to the Apple ecosystem. I develop for both Apple and Android and truth be told, working with Android devices always feels like a step down. Maybe it's just personal preference but it is what it is for me.

I can testify for the crash detection. Three weeks ago I had a young lady traveling approximately 65mph in a 35mph zone hit my Jeep. The Jeep was totaled and I ended up tossed around as it rolled to its side. All airbags went off. I opened my eyes to find the Jeep with emergency flashers auto activated and my iPhone calling emergency services for me. Later that night as I was being checked out in an emergency room I remember clearly feeling a sigh of relief and thinking how confident I am now knowing all the advertisements on this were legit.

Why are the corners so pointy?
I think to make it look different from the iPhone with its very rounded corners. Iit looks like it might be a bit uncomfortable in one's pocket (assuming you could fit it in a pocket) but I appreciate Samsung trying for some design differentiation.

This is Apple’s take on innovation.
Really? Features copied form Google are Apple's take on innovation? That's a good one.
Also it's not all rainbows and sunshine with that feature:

And why not have all the features? Including the AI ones. It's not like Apple gave you a choice in the first place to make it seem like it's one or the other.
Anyway way Apple will eventually implement the same AI features because this is bigger than them, they will just be late with it like they usually are when the market turns it's attention to something new.

Look terrible? They look like screens in cases once in a case, like every other phone in the world. 👀

Or do you mean their specs look terrible? That doesn't make sense either as they are clearly not budget crap, with more impressive camera tech than Apple offers.

(And no, I've never owned a Samsung phone and don't plan to at these prices)
They look ugly and Samsung camera quality is mot
Better than my pro max.

Also add on the fact it’s android.

Apple copied OLED displays from Samsung, Apple copied big phones from Samsung, Apple copied wireless charging from Samsung, Apple copied 4K video recording from Samsung (first available on Note 3), Apple copied the 48MP camera from Samsung, apple copied 5X Zoom camera form Samsung (because Samsung launched it first will the Note 20 Ultra) etc.
1. Motorola actually has the first oled screen
2. Palm actually first introduced wireless charging in their palm pre.
3. The dell streak came before the galaxy note meaning apple didn’t copy Samsung since Samsung was not the first phablet.
4. The Nokia 808 and the Nokia lumia 1020 actually are the two phones that created the megapixel war and offered things like raw support and many features that are common place today on Samsung and iPhones.
5. The lumia 1020 also had 6x zoom

So Samsung was not first in most of anything

Samsung is the the one that popularized OLED and always used it on their flagships unlike Motorola so yeah you can say they copied Samsung, nobody thinks about Motorola when you say OLED.
Wireless charging was also present in Nokia phones in early 2010s the thing is, Samsung made it popular and widespread feature before Apple finally copied it.
I own a Nokia 808. It has a different sensor tech and it was 40MP not the 48 quad bayer popularized by Androids and adopted by Apple. Also Nokia only used the higher MP cameras on 2 models out of the countless they launched, they didn't really start any war.
The Lumia 1020 didn't have a dedicated Zoom camera so it's not comparable to the Note 20 Ultra, it used sensor crop to zoom.

So Samsung was not first in most of anything
The same can be said about Apple, easily.
For example Apple isn't the first to use Titanium for the phone frame although some of their fans act like Apple invented Titanium and they are the only one allowed to use it.

And my point was that Samsung was first in any of the things I mentioned.

I wonder how much of the AI processing is done locally and how much is done on the cloud? Will that require a subscription in the future? It'll be expensive to offer...

According to the Samsung website, "Galaxy AI features will be provided for free until the end of 2025 on supported Samsung Galaxy devices. Different terms may apply for AI features provided by third parties."

What happens after 2025 remains to be seen.

Phone announced yesterday and it’s already on discount 😄

By most accounts this camera is in fact better than your iPhone Pro Max. Both are top of the heap so you don't need to take it personally. Next years iPhone 16 PM will likely outdo both as will the following Galaxy 25 Ultra. That's life.

I think the design is beautiful but to each their own.

It is powered by Android as you stated. That's a fact to which we can both agree.

Can’t say I have much use at this time for a jumped up Google system, and I’m sure plenty of other people will use and enjoy AI but it is noticeable the difference from various companies of how much of their marketing is surrounding AI. Some companies clearly believe it’s the next level of the Internet, some not sure consumers are overly fussed on it yet.

Why is this ugly thing on MacRumors? is Android Rumors not busy enough? I'm guessing Samsung cut a check. What does a Samsung phone have to do with a Mac and/or Apple related products?
Competition is actually a great thing. Just because you have an iPhone doesn't mean you can't praise others for what they are doing.

Many people on here have second phones and use Android.

Also many folks on here are liking there 2nd android phone over the iPhone but won’t Amit it 🤓🫣🫣

Seeing as it hasn’t been used by users in the real world that is up for debate.

It being android makes it inferior.

You're moving the goal post to try and make a point. Your whole "argument" was Apple copied Samsung. Which implies that Samsung was first and i quickly pointed out several instances where that is not at all true.

What is even more hilarious is that you accuse Apple of copying Samsung (who themselves literally copied other OEMs) when Samsungs initial thing were its galaxy phones were literally knockoff iphone designs and the UIX for touchwiz was literally a poor man's IOS (much like Android was for the first like 4 years lol).

You literally can not sit here and say Apple copied Samsung when Samsung's initial success came from the fact it looked like an iPhone.

I am all about being a fan but let's not give credit where Credit is not due and Samsung POPULARIZED already existing ideas, they did not create them as you implied. Thus apple never copied Samsung, they followed trends.

So you're agreeing with me (we don't know if it's better or worse) and disagreeing with yourself ('its camera is worse than my 15 Pro Max') ?
Samsung Cameras have always been worse than my iPhone cameras, so i am saying I dont see this being better than my 15 Pm. I know you are itching for that gotcha but not today, mate :)
