It would really have to be a game changer for people like me to just toss aside the entire Apple ecosystem — iCloud, iMessage, FaceTime, and iPads, AirTags, Apple TV, etc., etc.

I'm in too deep to leave the walled garden! While the Fold looks cool, it's not enough to convince me to abandon ship.
Agreed. Oddly enough I like my new MBP so much, it is now kind of anchoring me to the phone.

Waiting for Apple to release their folding phone, so we can progress from "nobody needs a folding phone" to "my folding iPhone is great" stage of acceptance on this forum.
Who is saying we don’t need a folding phone. I’m saying for me, I’m not interested. Don’t know about the “we” though.

BTW the best wallpaper SMH

The Samsung note 7 was a spiffific issue with the phone, not a freak accident.
So why is Samsung still in business? the lawsuits alone would have bankrupted them?

Why is Dell still in business after with their exploding batteries which caused how batteries are shipped around the now.

These look pretty cool. I tried the Z flip 3 and it wasn't for me for a multitude of reasons but it's awesome to see these phones existing and starting to sell in volume. As much as I'm not a capitalist, competition in the smartphone land is great. Also I wish Apple Watch was cheaper, Samsung seems to be making a very competent watch for much less than Apple is.

Meanwhile, IPhone 14 will have a smaller notch.
Kind of feel that iPhones are getting obsolete before they even go to market.
They're less cutting-edge than Samsung on the outside, but more cutting-edge on the inside (the A-series processors are much faster than what Samsung has).

Your laptop catching on fire and bur aging your house down is pretty serious as well.

But sure, swelling and exploding batteries are only bad when it isn't Apple.

2006-2007 the battery issue was global and affected every manufacturer. They called it battery pandemic or something.

There was mass battery swap recalls from Toshiba, Apple, Sony, Dell.

Batteries are a hard technology to get right even today.

What’s easier is designing good aesthetics and usability.

And still the competitors fail and fall over themselves.

I was referring to the 2015 MBP battery recall due to swelling and fires.

They have a dedicated user base in Asia especially home market.

They are also the biggest conglomerate in the world. If all the different Samsung branded companies merged into one company they would have a market cap of something like $4 trillion.

There has even been Samsung cars and Samsung clothing lines for years. Most people don’t even know.

Same thing. Already said in my post, battery tech is hard and it will probably never be perfected.

Teslas blow up and catch fire because of unstable batteries.

Companies will still be recalling batteries in year 2100.

I've seen a couple of them around my midsize Canadian city (about 300K), they look pretty awesome! I think the Flip4 will sell like hotcakes given the previous generation's sore spot was the battery, which will be solved now!

You want a $2000 iPhone? :D
These foldables are very niche. A huge bulk of Android phones on the market are the $300-$400 mid range slabs. The iPhone will milk money for years to come.

4th gen and it still doesn't fold flat. Seriously Samsung, the Chinese have done it. Why can't you just copy them?
