Samsung is marketing their product which they feel is better. Nothing wrong with that. Are they getting some iPhone users to switch over? Probably. Until users started switching to Android phones with larger screens, Apple was happy with the size of the screen. Apple will have to up its game in its commercials and news releases.

Dunno, why some people are getting so worked up over an ad :p

It's just marketing in a commercially driven world, not a religion. If anything, the amount of recent Samsung ad shows, that this company is under pressure, as the last profit and earning figures would suggest.

Samsung's stronghold was their bigger screen compared to the iPhone. Probably with that advantage gone sone, Samsung has to put up a fight. More so it is under threat by over phone companies, which offer equally good if not better Android hardware, like LG or the just announced Xiaomi Mi 4 , which has top of the line specs and is much much cheaper than a Samsung.

Samsung is on a decline. One thing they probably can't buy is brand loyalty. Especially for an Android user it is easy to move over to a different brand. But of course, the most obvious target is Apple in the marketing campaigns.

I don't understand how/why people "hate" a piece of technology.

If it's not for you, that's cool, but to actively hate it?

That's two completely separate things which cannot be de facto combined as one. I don't read the poster you responded to as actively hating on the 5.5"; i.e., it's too big for anyone; but rather merely stating his personal dislike of it and not filling his own needs.

Everyone dislikes, i.e., "hates," (hyperbole!) some sort of product, tech or otherwise because everyone has their own preferences and needs. That's part of what being human is about. Choices and options are everywhere because its profitable to make them available.

OTOH even while one may love, say, hardwood and "hate" linoleum, if they have a full life, they don't actively go onto a home building site and start railing against linoleum. They might chime in on a "hardwood vs linoleum" thread to share their opinion, but people with balanced lives do not have emotional investment whether a stranger buys hardwood or linoleum, even if they have a deep hatred of one of those materials.

See the difference there?

A cheap grab for quick sales. Maybe they're targeting those users unsure of the decision to buy Apple products. To me it indicates they're concerned about the upcoming iPhone 6 models.

Is this commercial for Apple?

Any commercial that needs to mention the competition is bad advertising. What do you remember about the commercial? Apple. So stupid. I for one am very happy with the current size of the iPhone. If I wanted a tablet I'd buy one. How do you carry that mammoth phone anyway? They should have a disclaimer when you buy the phone that reads "please purchase a purse (merse) since this phone doesn't fit in your pocket".

The commercial is beyond stupid but you'd be surprised how usable the big screen phones are. You should try the bigger screened iPhone before judging. I look at my wife's iPhone and wonder how she doesn't get annoyed with that tiny screen.

I have to say Samsung have achieved their goal no end.
Firstly this while thread is littered with the company name which is perfect for search results. They know full well the tech sites will pick up on this for click bait which equalls more search results and that an ad which is highly irrelevant considering what's going on in the world will go viral because of the two different fractions. It's cheap marketing at its best.

Personally I don't think the hidden message to the core is that iPhone users are stupid more like hey look how long it takes apple to do anything regardless what some of there users want. Now I don't care about apple waits to perfect. That's trash as in this day an age its about fast turnaround bla bla bla.

And as for those that say Samsung is in decline yes there mobile sales are as we hit saturation but Samsung do so much more and don't have their eggs in one basket.

As others have said being able to choose what's best for you is how it should be. I use a galaxy mega as I love the big screen but it doesn't suit everyone. I love the quality of an iPhone but its too small for my needs and I'm not a fan of iOS but I get why others are

Yes these adds won't win you over there not meant to. There an attack on apple. Whether it works or not is irrelevant. They are fun adds nothing more nothing less even if a bit childish

This logic makes no sense. The reactions to these ads are mostly negative, even on Android forums. This is like saying a hotel will get a lot of business because people all over the internet are complaining about them so there's a lot of search results. I highly doubt Samsung's marketing strategy was "get indexed by Google".

They're doing a poor job of getting that msg across by showing iPhone users as idiots.

As someone already mentioned 65% of their profits come from mobile, so much like Apple, yes their eggs are in one basket.

Seems like a waste to have a campaign who's purpose is not to win you over.

I dont think they say it about every iphone ... ever - as there has only been one size increase since being introduced.

I think he meant that it's not uncommon for some people to diss a feature until Apple gets it. It's something Steve Jobs taught them.

It is increasingly pathetic how Samsung just attacks Apple. Theyd be better off concentrating on their own tech.

How soon people forget Apple's so-called "Genius ads", which insulted their OWN users so badly, they were yanked off the air within weeks... and in typical Apple 1984 fashion, totally wiped from their website as if they never existed.

What a crock and a lie. For the life of me, I can't figure out why the mods allow ppl to continue to say this. Makes the whole forum look like a joke.

Definitely one of Apple's stupidest moments.

It's funny no one likes these ads. I think they're not that different from the Mac vs. PC ads..

The key difference I believe, is that the Mac vs Pc commercials dealt solely with the product. It was literally a Mac talking to a PC. In one of them, the Mac even calls the PC a "wizard with numbers".

In these commercials, samsung is clearly targeting the stupidity of apple's sheep-like consumers and they're never ending ignorance.

While I prefer Apple's products to Samsung's, I do sense something more snarky in these commercials.

And what about the one where they mock iphone battery life? Most of my friends have Samsung Galaxy S phones and trust me, one thing they do not boast about is battery life.

Also, in 2006-2007, the Mac was in a league of its own compared to the tai wreck that was windows vista. An upfront comparison commercials was needed to highlight the Mac's unknown superiority at the time. What does Samsung's have that is unarguably better than Apple today? Bigger screens surely, but nothing else is certain. They're software seems and works in an inferior manner and the phones themselves are made from cheap plastic and in ugly shapes. Those are factors that discourage me from spending $600 dollars or so on such a device.

Am I the only person left in the world that doesn't want a bigger screen? I think the size of the iPhone 5 is perfect.

Exactly, why would I want a phone that barely fits in my pocket! iPhone 5 is the perfect size for my hands and pocket. It feels great in both, like they were meant for each other. I'm pretty sure the iPhone was made with that in mind. When I hold the S5 at the store, it feels like way too big, more than a phone should be.

ya gotta love these ads..

"But maybe you just like waiting"

Ya we do like waiting :) because Apple just does it perfect/or tries and does it right all the way... You can't say that about too many phones these days... It's all rush-rush-rush, out of the gate as fast as possible without even thinking what customers want..

I have a handful of friends that went Android because of the larger screen. The interesting thing is all of them have been asking me when the iPhone 6 is coming because they want to switch back. A large screen isn't for everyone but it's the only real advantage of Android at this point, and soon that will be gone.

News flash Samsung: I don't want crappy Android software, or your terrible TouchWiz overlay.

I don't know who would, even on my tablet by them (slow as hell) it feels horrible to use, the design is very unfinished looking, and just plain ugly. I sometimes design graphics and UIs and believe they need to hire someone who can too.

The size of the display alone is not going to make me switch.
If Samsung wants my business, they would need to do better than that.
Maybe if they start to run iOS instead of Android, I may consider. :D

In the end, there's more to it than size, looks and gimmicks. I want a phone that actually works when I need it to work. If I need a larger display, I would just use my iPad.

----------

Nope - I hate the bigger screens, in my view the iPhone 5 screen is just right, and if I want a bigger screen I use my iPad...

I bet that once you see the larger display iPhone, you will reconsider. :D
We are talking larger display within a slightly larger iPhone, nothing huge like a Samsung Phablet.

Get out of the 'Dark Side' while you still can! :D

True! Those who don't like waiting could just get the Chinese knock off that was released a few days ago. :D

iPhone 5S works for me.

I'll withhold final judgement until I see the new phones but I have to say the size of the 5S works for me. Fits well in the hand and the pocket (anyone using a bigger phone care to let me know how they carry it; pocket, bag, jacket? Seriously, I'd like to know)

I hope the new sizes work and it's not a case of Apple becoming a follower rather than a leader. There is always a good case for giving customers what the want but really, I'm not convinced most customers think it through; bigger screen, more memory, faster processor, more bells & whistles."YES PLEASE"... "what do you mean this phone is more expensive, runs hotter, doesn't last as long on a charge, is too thick?" etc etc

Bit like the new, thinner iMac. Why? 10 mins of looking at it sideways on and that's it, never looked at the thinness since.
Thinner phone? no, keep it the same size just with a bigger battery.
