My friend just sold his previous gen because of scaling issues with his Mac mini.

Every time I read comments like this I am baffled. Did he go all the way through potential solutions? I have a 27 inch 4K HDR10+ monitor and also experienced scaling issues at the beginning... a short "googling" led me to the solution within 15 minutes.

I am just wishing for a 32"+ 5/6k display for $3k. XDR is perfect but I can't justify even as pro to pay $7k (nano/stand). Come on! 😂
EXACTLY! I'm hoping for a XDR gen2 and then maybe grabbing gen1 from B&H or something... Honestly though, after trying the M8 last year, I am seriously considering the XDR... But I'm playing a waiting game :)

If they can't get the DPI up to Studio Display levels, no thanks.

5K Hi-DPI displays are now decade-old tech. Why are brand new monitors still lacking it?
Because it's 78% more pixels for only 20% smaller pixel width and height, since the area is exponential.

Pretty much nobody cares to use a non-standard that requires more resources and costs more with no real benefit. 4k is absolutely sharp enough at 27-32" at the viewing distances people use for every purpose. Even doing content creation, 4k is the standard. The only reason 5k seems to exist is because of macOS janky scaling.

Note that the 27" M80C will apparently only be available in the US, but not globally.

Also, these are VA panels, which not everyone may like, though they provide better blacks than IPS.

When you go 5K, there is no way back, believe me!!!

It's true and good advice, albeit tedious -- but sad that Apple's "it just works" has sunk to that level.

Their janky scaling should just be fixed so people can use standard display resolutions easily.
Doesn’t the manufacturer of the monitor supply the drivers in most cases. If so, wouldn’t it be easier for them to write the proper adjustments into their drivers if the want to sell to Apple customers?

I've had this sentiment as well. Once you get to a price like the Apple Display XDR it makes more sense to get a Vision Pro (unless you really need the XDR for your profession). Unlimited screens sound intriguing for sure, but we'll have to see how it plays out when the Vision Pro is really released. Biggest downside I see with that solution is the fact people around you can't see the content of the screen so if you need to collaborate in that way it doesn't work. Also the unknown of how the weight of the headset will play out after a full days work.
Yeah, thats definitely a limitation, but looking at the target audience, which is a gamer sitting in their room alone, it could be the same use case for someone with the Vision Pro.

I am considering the VisonPro primarily because it is cheaper than the XDR display. However, my main concern is whether it is suitable for long work sessions involving applications like Photoshop, After Effects, Cinema 4D, and so on. I'm unsure if using this new technology and workflow might lead to eye fatigue or if it would be a beneficial avenue to explore.

Isn't G9 supposed to be superior to S9? why are people dying for S9 when G9 is supposed to be better?
Completely different markets.

G9 is a large, curved monitor targeting gamers with only a 5,120 x 1,440 resolution.

The S9 is a document and app monitor with twice the vertical resolution for better rendering of text and graphics 5120 x 2880px.

I have a 34” widescreen Samsung display with 1440p vertical right now and it is adequate but text is fuzzy on it. Just blowing that up to 49” would not make things better. It does work for games as the images are essentially videos where detail is less important and the images are in motion so you don’t see the low resolution.

That's a whole 'nuther issue with macOS -- needing either 5K to look good or oddball resolutions that no monitor manufacturer makes.
5K is ideal but 4K at around 27” and a 1.5x scaling factor is acceptable and not significantly blurry but these wide screen 1440p displays don’t work well for text and line graphics.

Where are all the 5K and 6K third party monitors?

There is no competition, so Apple rakes us over the coals on pricing. Especially for 6K.

I just want a fairly standard HDR600 32" 6K display for less than $2000. This will be my main central display for the 14" MBP M3 Max that I want to get next year when I replace my iMac and 16" MBP with one device, flanked on either side with my existing LG 4K 27" displays.

The $1599 Studio Display 27" 5K has an iPhone chip that would easily run Apple TV 4K. I do not understand why Apple did not make that also a "smart display"?
I’m with you. Built-in Apple TV functionality would be huge for some of us. I love my Studio Display, but might consider the S9 when it comes out, solely for this reason. I occasionally want to unplug my MBP from my display and sit back in a lounge chair to work while watching TV. I can’t do that with my current setup even though it’s great in every other way.

Why even put a iPhone chip inside just to drive the non-smart display? Couldn't the Watch chip the same job at a cheaper part price?

That's a really cool looking desk! Mind telling me the manufacturer? Looking for something to replace my cozy and comfy but aging and crappy-looking desk.

I have two 5+ year old Samsung 40” 4k 4:4:4 monitors that are pretty decent. I wish the M8 were offered in a 40-43” size. Their 43” monitor doesn’t have nearly as good a stats at the M8. :(
