Samsung Mocks Apple's Decision to Remove the Headphone Jack in iPhone 7

Reminds me of now defunct PC OEMs who boasted they still offered floppy drives on their computers.

The difference is the audio jack is still very relevant whereas by that point floppy's couldn't hold enough data to make them worthwhile. I'd say get rid of it if there was some benefit like making the phone smaller, but apparently that is not the case. Samsung appears to have very trim phones while every rumor and spy shot shows Apple continuing with their HUGE old fashioned bezels.

When we first heard the iris scanner rumor about iPhone, I thought it was incredibly stupid. Who wants to hold their phone 6 inches from their face every time they unlock it?

And now Samsung coming out with one explains the rumor. I'd bet Samsung was behind the rumor in the first place to drum up interest in the technology and to legitimize it because "Apple is going to do it, eventually" and make them look like innovators.

Just like the eye-tracking auto-pause video feature, or 3D photos, or docks to turn your phone into a laptop... and on and on.

Gimmicks: because nobody, not designers, not consumers, not even science fiction writers, are dreaming of personal computing technology beyond that which we already have.

Aren't they removing it for space and you get better audio quality with the lightning connection?

I know it's not a popular move, but those are the reasons right?
If they do remove it, we'll hear the reasons sometime in September at a special event. Everything before then is no more than speculation, so it doesn't really make sense to ask what the reasons are.

Most people won't notice nor care.
But they will notice having to charge your headphones now.. and also spending multiple times more for headphones...no more $15 running and gym headphones...and also no longer being able to participate in road trip aux cable DJing.
All very important considerations in my opinion.

The 6s can do all of the above and everything that a lightning headphone can do.

So how is it 'better'

Guess this really does show that Samsung follows Internet rumors of Apple's upcoming designs and attempts to act on them. Such an inferiority complex. Kind of like when they thought Apple was going to do a curved screen iPhone and released the Galaxy Edge.

Within a year Samsung won't be releasing phones with headphone jacks either.

Who sells twice as many phones as Samsung? Not Apple. Thats for sure.

No one sells as many phones as Samsung and thats a fact my friend :)

Galaxy J, Galaxy 6Š, Galaxy Duo NJ Plus G, Galaxy KŽ 8z, Galaxy Neo 4 Duo, Galaxy Grand 44, Galaxy Mini 3, Galaxy Mega Music 52, Galaxy Y Duos, Galaxy Trend Omnia 91.....great.....o_O

As I understand one may choose to use finger print scanner for unlocking the phone and iris scanner for unlocking more sensitive features (like Samsung Pay, banking apps etc.) which makes perfect sense.

I found that quite cringeworthy despite being totally opposed to Apple removing the headphone jack socket.

I don't think you or most people understand the reasons behind moving away from the 50 year old technology of the 3.5mm analog headphone jack. All music files played on any handheld device today are digital. The audio jack requires an analog output, so every device has to have a digital to analog converter chip to convert the file on the fly. It makes sense to just keep the flow of digital to digital. And the biggest port now on any device is the audio jack, so it limits the size to which a device can be manufactured. So why should we stick with 50 year old technology and limit the size of our devices, just for nostalgia? Heck, let's just put the 8mm headphone jack on there too. When you have a look at old pc laptops of the 90's and see the massive serial ports on the back, you cringe. The same will go for the headphone jack.

These days, it seems Samsung appears be innovating more than Apple in the mobile phone market.

Innovating by doing what everybody else has been doing for the last decade? If anything in this discussion is innovation, it's getting rid of the socket (though even then I think that's a strong word for it), not keeping it.

I will never switch to Android, but it looks like they are trying hard to bring new stuff. I hope Apple can make iPhone 7 exciting. I will upgrade no matter what anyway.

And if Apple made a ton of cheap, low-end, $100 smartphones and sold them in the second/third world and to prepaid customers in the first world they'd sell a bunch of phones too. But the phones would suck and Apple avoids making products that suck
Is that your excuse? Because excuses dont make money my friend.
