Marketing 101. Don’t advertise for your competitor. All this does is highlight that Apple is the dominant player in this market since everything is benchmarked against them.

Also, all this does is make the people who bought Samsung feel better about their purchase. It’s not converting iPhone users to Android users.

These adverts are embarrassing. Why doesn't Samsung focus on showcasing their products instead of bashing the competition? Are they trying to be Microsoft or something?!

I’m a Mac, and I’m a PC...
Wasn’t that long ago.

Yes but when it's Apple doing it, it's a "genius campaign", "I love these ads", "they are sooooo right", etc.

Samsung ads always strike me as preaching to the choir. They appeal to smug Samsung fans, who then turn the ads into talking points to take jabs at iPhone users…and we smug iPhone users are just as unswayed by the ads as the jabs.

Will the ads turn an iPhone fan into a Samsung customer? I doubt it, but that's probably not Samsung is trying to do. Will it solidify Samsung fan's opinion even further? Probably, but they were already Samsung fans. So the big question is, do these ads persuade customers without strong allegiances to become Samsung customers?

My gut says, no; snarky, smug ads appeal only to snarky, smug fans. But I could be wrong.
Completely agree. I don't see this changing the minds of your average iPhone owner.

These ads are laughably bad. What a waste of time and resources.

Whether the execution is good or bad is subjective. The ads point to facts in an objetive manner for the viewer to make his/her own conclusions, I wouldn't say this is a waste of time or resources unless of course you believe in hiding the facts ;)

In any case, the ads are extremely effective

They also include lighting headphones that are usless with your MacBook Pro or any other non iOS device. Want to connect your iPhone to your brand new MacBook Pro? Nope, you can’t do that either. “A double dongle!!” Sounds like something Cook invented.

The camera thing is pretty stupid. And the headphone jack genuinely makes Samsung look outdated, especially now that wireless charging negates the "What if I want to charge at the same time" argument.

They have a good argument with the fast charger, but Apple is already fixing that somewhat in the next generation. I see using the MBP charger for the max speed a benefit of being in the "ecosystem."

To be fair, those are two very valid complaints about the iPhone X. Let's hope at least the fast charger is included in this years iPhone.
I keep buying and losing the dongles! I have no love for Samsung but these commercials are pretty good.
The fast charging in the Iphone 8 plus is pretty fast but i guess faster is always better.

I own some Samsung products and I own some Apple products... features aside, as soon as I have an issue and need to contact support it stops being a competition almost immediately. Samsung has the worst customer support I've ever dealt with. They don't keep consistent cases, they "lose" notes, they don't offer any obvious resolution without you jumping through hoops... I spent almost 13 hours on calls with them trying to resolve a small issue once for a product that probably netted them $90 in margin. They must have spent thousands of dollars in representative time to "deal" with me, and ultimately I got a refund on top of that.

It's worse than Comcast. Have you ever tried to deal with Comcast?

But yeah, commercials here are pretty good.

Of course Shamesung has to get their jabs in, comparing their newest 2018 model to Apple's 2017 model while they can, because they know any arguments will fall flat when Apple ships 2018 iPhones in a couple of months.

Haha, these are great burns and very true, especially that first one. I know I'm taking a hit on my own camera quality and fast charging, but dammit, I've got a working headphone jack on my iPhone SE.

Um, do you remember the PC vs Mac ads that Apple ran? It was called a genius campaign by many. But of course, since it was Apple, you're okay with that.

And you say they are embarrassing, yet they present significant issues about Apple decisions and products.

When they only things they can criticize is a headphone adapter, a fast charger that’s sold separately, and a 2 percent higher camera score, I think Apple’s doing pretty good.
The DxOMark things aren’t percents, really. And they tend to be ranked for specific criteria. While a generally helpful score it’s not something to base decisions off of. But the point is valid, though. The difference in rating is so small that making it into a big selling point is pretty silly.

I would be more likely to use a Samsung phone if I didn't have a Mac. I really like the close integration with my iPhone and Mac and even the Apple Watch and Messages. I addressed those complaints in the ad by getting the Air Pods, using my Macbook charging with the correct Lighting cable. And the camera is fine for me including better video specs.

Yes. All valid arguments. No headphone jack is why my wife went with Samsung and gave up on Apple. I plan on doing the same when my iPhone dies.
If that is the only reason you are switching phones, then that does not make sense. You will spend between 700 to 900 on a phone instead of replacing headphones for wireless ones which cost much less? the headphone jack is antiquated anyway and the future is wireless, I still don't understand why this is a big deal. Do you still use a floppy disk on your computer too or CD-Rom.

Well, it was different in that Samsung typically mocks people while those Apple adverts were personified systems. The Apple ads were light hearted and comedic while these ads tend to be negative and biting.

What people are they mocking? Seems very product specific to me. Maybe you think they are mocking the genius character? But he is basically giving the right answers to the situation. Go into any Apple store and say the same lines about those issues and you'll get just about the very same answers from the (actual) “geniuses.”

No particular love for Samsung here but I personally do still think the headphone jack (requiring a dongle) decision is consumer unfriendly to say the least and the wall of spin to try to make sense of it still fails IMO when everything else that has come out since from Apple still has a headphone jack. Did Apple actually believe their own spin? If so, why does everything else roll out WITH one? And why aren't the apologists ripping Apple for leaving the "antiquated" in everything else? (both rhetorical by the way)
