Ok, so now Samsung can sue Apple for stealing their designs with some of the most recent iPhones that are blatant copies of Samsungs designs, right?

Wrong. The final judge is my wallet and it says this verdict is anti-consumerism. If I want a mediocre Chinese made phone I'd buy direct from China without the middle-man markup.

Actually, a lot of smart consumers are already buying direct from Aliexpress, DealExtreme, Banggood, etc. for their electronic needs. Just bought some good UBEC DC-DC converters direct from Aliexpress for dirt cheap without the middle-man markup and it arrived in under two weeks from overseas.

Good luck with that. "He who has the Gold makes the Rules." Ain't changing in our lifetime. I'd suggest acquiring more gold. ;)

Obviously this was never about money for Apple or Samsung, but is/will be good news for people owning what they "create." Apple copies, too, and should also pay when they blatantly steal from others.
They is copying and down right copying, Samsung when you look at the phone down right coped.

No one has an issue with a little bit of copying, as long as they not trying to make it look like the thing they are copying but using it as inspiration.

qualcomm vs apple is next i have the popcorn ready.

Popcorn? I thought that was reserved for entertainment. These legal cases are teeeeeedious.

I remember back in the day picking up a colleagues Samsung Galaxy (I think that’s the model it was) and thinking it was an iPhone 3G, even being amazed how similar the icon layout was. To say they didn’t copy any of it is a bit of a lie.
Really? You missed the bold "SAMSUNG" logo in the front? rectangular/oval button on samsung vs circular buttons on iphone are same to you?

This is a shame really. Apple didn't win their case for "innovating" rounded rectangular corner anywhere on earth. Only in USA, only in their native California. If anything, this case should have been tried at some international court. As pointed out by others earlier, even USPTO invalidated some patents... Not informing the court of the USPTO reversal is clearly sneaky.

Good grief Samsung. Just pay up. You know darn good and well you completely copied Apple and still do.

Still do? That's funny, then Samsung must have a deep internal mole at Apple because they are coming out with things years ahead of Apple so it is quite a feat to steal that stuff so early! This place is truly funny sometimes.

article said:
The latest Samsung v. Apple trial wrapped up this afternoon after the jury decided that Samsung must pay Apple a total of $539 million for violating Apple's design patents with five android devices sold between 2010 and 2011, reports CNET.
Samsung consented to a jury trial and did not insist on a bench trial. They have gone through several trials and appeals with this outcome. Even if you agree the Supreme court ruled in their favor, it occurred afterward to the whole series of events and the law and precedent as it stood then.

Furthermore this is for two years 2010-2011. They have been making similar devices in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018.

If you take the $539m and multiply it by 3.5 and add 25% for increased device sales, which is conservative, that’s $2358m. As of today, plus going forward.

Funnily enough I didn’t miss the logo, or the home button, and I could also see that the icon layout was very similar, but it obviously wasn’t an iPhone. Sorry, I didn’t think I’d have to explain this.

But at first glance, the shape and design (the chrome effect band around the front of the device), the aforementioned icons and layout were enough to make me think, “Jeez, this is basically a copy of the iPhone”.

Multi-million dollar patent disputes between multi-national companies should not be settled in a local California court. They should be heard by a panel of expert judges in a neutral location at an international court, maybe at the UN or WTO.

Well, I’d go for WIPO rather than the WTO or UN, but other than, I agree with you.

And then turn around and use that money to pay the infringements that they 'allegedly' violated...the cycle continues.

Sad thing is most people on here are too young to have ever touched or heard of one. I had a Compaq iPaq with a 3G data/voice compact flash card so it was the forefather to smartphones/phablets.

And the pencil was the forefather of the stylus used with the Treo. /s

These where nothing like the first iPhone except that you could make a call.

So you're telling everyone here that you cannot tell these 2 phones apart? really?

To start with, Samsung should sue Apple for copying the phablet and making their phones finally usable. Here's my upgrade in 2012 from a tiny tic tac box with broken Safari rendering browser to a Galaxy Note 2 which is still perfectly usable to this day due to future proofing with 2GB DRAM, AMOLED, Wacom precision pen input, background and split screen multitasking, etc.

No no no, you are forg thing my friend, Samsung has a time machine. It literally travel forward in time and then steals Apples ideas and designs....
U fortunately a lot of people are pretty naive about what went before Apple, and only see what they are told, rather then what actually existed, bloody oblongs with round corners and black faces on phones existed that’s for sure!

I dont think a company can sue based on size. If that were the case all 55 inch tv manufacturers would be suing each other in a free for all.

Buts that is just my humble opinion.

Current OLEDs are regularly getting awarded most accurate displays these days.

The problem is that leads to comment like yours was that up until about Samsung's S6, previous OLEDS did have insanely oversaturated colours and could get burn in extremely easily.

After the S6, Samsung started calibrating the screens far better and are considered very accurate. However, Samsung via software turns saturation UP to the ridiculous popping colours. They believe overall that users are more attracted to the bright popping colour profile than the more "subtle" accurate colours. However, since the S6 onwards, Samsung's has provided via their options the ability to turn off the saturation and use the more accurate colour profile.

for example the S9 display

That's all well and good, but again, as I care a lot about color (a photographer), I much prefer the LCD display in my 6+ over the OLED display in my iPhone X.

Curious...do you happen to have an iPhone X?
