Hi, my T3 1 TB just arrived. It is fast - not 3.1 fast but still - 360GB of mixed-sized files copied in less than 14 mins. 55 GB VM in 2 mins? Size is super convenient I am more afraid not to lose it actually. I hope T5 will be available to buy by 15 august because of my return window...

AFAIK and according to my storage vendor the only bit that's holding up the official release of the T5 and updated SATA SSDs is the approval of US and EU trademarks for each unit. He texted me this link for the EU (where my GF does some business and is itching to upgrade from the T1s she uses now): http://www.trademarkia.com/ctm/samsung-portable-ssd-t5-016923443.htm

and the US application: http://tess2.uspto.gov/bin/showfield?f=doc&state=4804:z94ng3.6.267 - he indicated that a couple of other companies from China also filed for the "T5" word mark here in the US in the following few months. <rant>Gawd I HATE our patent and trademark offices' procedures.</rant>

Thanks. Got it at

They look and sound pretty awesome but I hope the pricing comes down! The 1TB model is currently as much as an 850 PRO!

Samsung 850 PRO (1TB) is more expensive at $437.13 than T5 from the same Amazon reseller. Most importantly, they are different products. External drives are usually more expensive for the same specifications, for obvious reasons, since they carry extra electronics, case, cables, etc. LaCie used to sell internal Samsung SSD as portable ones for two to three times more price. Go figure...

And, as said, T5 model (1TB) is 15.92% cheaper than T3. That is unexpected for a brand new product that is much better and usually starts selling at higher price.

Sure, price will come down with time, as always happens with electronics, but that will take time, since there is no real competitor of T5. That is the real big problem here and the main reason larger models (4TB, 8TB and even 16TB) have not been released. Samsung said all those sizes were possible with current V-NAND technology. Hopefully this situation will change soon.

Funny stuff on the Amazon page - a 4pack badge on the corner of the image & USB ports = 2 in the specs (cables? yes) could be more mistakes
We'll likely never know, the offer's been pulled since your post. Personally, I wouldn't buy from them - the business is about 10 miles from where I was born and grew up, and they've often had shady deals. Decent prices often, sh**y customer service and support - I'd rather drive or train into the city and buy from B&H/Adorama/Hi-Tech/MicroCenter.

Weird, weird, weird. It has been removed from Amazon as you say and also from eBay from the same retailer (17thstreetphoto)
http://www.ebay.com/usr/17thstreetphoto

Also gone from Google cache, as well as Images tab. It seems that Samsung is preparing a big announcement and does not want leaks to spoil it.

Until Amazon and a few other big retailers have 100s to sell, it's not really out in the US at least.
Perhaps TechData is getting them in, but not pushing big orders yet.

Looks amazing, especially the blue one. I am pretty sure prices will stay high for the near future since there is nothing comparable out there now in terms of size and weight. Also there are not so many people who really need a 2TB external SSD. The grand majority just wants to store data and can get an external HDD with more capacity for a fraction of the price. But for me no more spinning drives, thanks.

Samsung Portable SSD T5 (250GB & 500GB models) showing on Amazon Mexico (Spanish language) since 4th July 2017:

Yet, they are not indexed by Google, Yahoo, Lycos or Bing. It seems that Samsung is preparing a launch (hopefully , soon!) and does not want leaks before such event.

On a side note. If you are interested in the new tiny Samsung USB-C 3.1 Flash Drive in a similar design like the Samsung T5, check out my review on Youtube.

I think for that compact size its probably the fastest flash drive in 2017.

Cheers

I will wait for comparisons T3 1 GB vs T5 1 GB. For now I am happy with brand new T3 1GB (I paid 360 EUR - new T5 is 440 EUR).

Samsung T5 SSD 1TB hands on video with benchmarks (510.0/485.6 MB/s read/write sequential speeds, respectively)!

Disappointing performance to be honest. I was hoping they were going to do something more than just offer us the Sata III connection we've had for years now in external SSDs and make use of at least USB 3.1 Gen 2 properly (if not Thunderbolt) but nope, they haven't.

They could have killed the market by created an 850MB/s device like Sandisk, but in a single disk with decent IOPS.

Looking forward to seeing the IOPS though, I hope they're impressive for random read and write of 4k and then i'll pick one up and pair it with the Sandisk for things that just require raw throughput (The Sandisk isn't great at small files as it's got a cheap raid controller in it) - if the results are great might as well just pick up an 850 Pro and attach it with a USB 3.1 Gen 2 Sata adapter.

Those speeds are almost as high as I get with my 850 PRO in an eSATA enclosure! It looks great! I think I'll be buying one in that handsome blue color for the nTB - I'm very curious to see if it does as well with random writes as my 850 PROs. :D

What option would they have for an interface to make an 850 MB/s external SSD that uses a single disk, doesn't need a larger case for cooling like some of the m.2 drives, maintains compatibility with USB, and keeps cost reasonably low? (My knowledge on the different form factors is limited so pardon me if this is a stupid question with an easy answer that I missed)
